My 11yr old daughter has had a chronic dry cough for years now, since November she had strep 3 times, h influenza and now rsv, she is having a sever problem wearing all types of clothes causing her to make twitch motions, she can’t wear a bra because it drives her crazy , only certain clothes she can wear which is very limited and then they are an issue, now when she showers her hands swell up then when the swelling goes down there’s a slight dry rash, her cough/throat clearing is all day throughout the day. Me and my wife are loosing our minds, we’ve been to so many doctors and no one can figure it out! Any help would be great!

Having just worked through a lot of trauma related to my relationship with my mum a new thing has come to light for me. Just how emotionally reactive I am to sound and how 40yrs of judgement has taken it's toll. I avoid doing anything in case I experience sensory overload because of the associated shame that I feel about the emotions it triggers. I don't know if I have autism, however I have read that alexithymia and spd can exasperate each other. I hope that I can find a way to make this better, it makes my life very miserable and in the Uk, it seems like nobody really cares and its nigh on impossible to get an accurate diagnosis of anything. Just "anxiety and depression " here have some CBT 😢

While I wouldn't go so far as to compare sensory issues to being black or gay, I ABSOLUTELY agree with Ruth that people are quite insensitive when it comes to respecting others' sensory boundaries! Playing loud music, smoking in non-smoking areas (believe me, I work in hospitality, I know!), etc. Thank you for sharing your perspective, Ruth! ❤

How do you handle a 3 year old that is out of control with hitting and throwing that has been diagnosed with SPD? We shy away from yelling or spanking him but time out etc doesn’t work with him but just trying to change a diaper, clothes, getting in the bath, getting out of the bath etc are a nightmare.

I am late discovered Autistic and ADHD (50 years old now). I have had problems with this for as long as I can remember, but did not know that what I was experiencing was not "normal". And it got worse with age, and especially when I got seriously burnt out. But I struggle with both not feeling what goes on in my body, and feeling some things to much. And it can be the same thing, but on different dayes or different settings.

I am autistic and I do speak. But I've always felt that words are not my first language. And many times I would rather not talk. I see more and more videos of parents celebrating that they have found ways to get their autistic child to speak. And I feel we may be doing not only a disservice to these children but harm. I understand that parents want their children to speak so badly. They want them to communicate verbally, they want to hear them say "I love you" out loud and yes, they want them to be "normal". But this may not be what your child wants. Everyone has the need to communicate. But it's wrong of us to force a child to communicate through speech if they don't wish to or are not ready. It's done through ABA, speech therapy and all kinds of persuasion because society believes that's what people do, speak. So, once again we teach the child to mask, to be normal because that's what they have to be, right? Wrong! Follow your child's lead, enter their world. Maybe it's too overwhelming to speak, maybe it's simply not their language but for whatever reason, it's not our right to tell someone who to be.

This is day one of having the mini trampoline. I got it because of the benefits I hear it has for the lymphatic system which is said to help kill cancer and because I want to loose a little belly fat and tone and hopefully avoid any injury. I am going to get my kids on it to help with mood, get them moving and I'm thinking it may help with my son's scalp psoriasis. If it helps to detox the body and reduce inflammation I don't see why it wouldn't work! Thank you for your video and sharing the benefits you found because of the mini trampoline. Blessings!

This was an extremely helpful video, thank you so much for posting this! I am a volunteer for Outdoor Kids Occupational Therapy, and this video is part of our training materials. I come from a background of both SpEd and ABA, and many of the approaches to managing challenging behaviors that I learned through these experiences left me uncomfortable, uncertain if I made the right choice, and occasionally ethically compromised. I really love how this approach focuses on validating the child's thoughts and emotions, meeting them where they are, and really helping them through the process to a place where they can reflect and repair. Thank you so much for making this!
