I have come out to the fantastic German Alps. Little known to foreigners but beloved by Germans, this tiny area offers some of the most amazing nature experiences in Europe. As always I carry a camera on my hikes, this time it's the Fujifilm GFX with he 35-70 lens. I'm shooting it in the GFX-Pan format, which is the same aspect ratio as the legendary Hasselblad X-pan, 65:24.

Did you use the red filter option on deep tone monochrom?

thank you for the video. how do you find the Kipon adapter on the pentax lens? can you share some insights and wether its the right one to buy or maybe another one is more appropriate, functionally and in built quality Thanks
@@qaiszureikat7146 the Kipon adapter is excellent, no wiggle at all. There is a little hook to catch the aperture mechanism. But that’s it no other features really. Just a well made steel tube.
Almost wonder if a Nikon 400mm 2.8 or 500mm/600mm f4 and crop to 24x36 would not be considerable sharper/better for GFX? I shoot with the 400, 500, 600 on d850's and D5's for work and they are razor sharp .... used ones with broken AFS motors are stupid cheap on the used market. In my humble opinion you are going to need beefier support for super tele stuff. awesome video, landed on this searching around thinking of a used GFX with some of my Mamiya 645 glass
@@MrRay645 I think you might be right. I’m planning to get some Nikon glass. At that focal length you might not need to crop even. It usually covers the sensor fine at long lengths.
Film was way, way better. Nice comparison. Tonality was way better, and real film grain adds a lot to the look and feel. It's good to be reminded how real film, especially Tri-X, looks (although how it is developed makes a big difference).
very soft. thank you for the test.
I would love to try my 140mm f/4.5 Mamiya RB67 macro lens on a Fuji GFX digital.
That would be amazing. it's a shame those adapters are so expensive. I'm sure it would give excellent results.
Good decision, you didn't go down with the e-bike. It would be heavy to bring it back up unless there's another route to go round. It's a very friendly biking place, would love to go there.

@@666Hansen Hornstrandir markets itself as the most remote Nature reserve in Iceland. But if you want a really remote area I suggest just north of Vattnajökull, that place is truly remote. The winds in Iceland can be very intense, my mic was constantly getting blown out, leaving only crackling noise. I need a better protected mic next time. Thanks for the feedback.

Beautiful video yet again 😍
Hey, beautiful video. What is the location of the video at 0:48 ?
Thats right outside the Town of Oberstdorf.
So great!
deep mono looks like normal mono with highlight weighted metering turned on
It darkens the blues, quite a lot. And darker over all.
A beautiful hike 😊
Best hike in a long time😊
Amazing!
hello there, thank you for video. just wonder that does the adaptor fit for pantax and mamiya lenes?
They fit very well. Rock solid, no wiggle.
What 28mm were you using on the Zf? Lovely images from both cameras. Found myself preferring the Nikon in most of the shots. Both for tonality and format.
I used the Nikon Z 28mm. The plastic lens that also comes in a 40mm version.
Fantastic shots, looks like an amazing place 😍
It really is!
really pretty! great drone shots!
Thanks, One of the few places in Germany where you can actually fly a drone. Lots of fun to do it.😃
Wunderschöne Berge ❤
Thanks, It was a wonderful place.
great camera, what is your video setting? thx
I’m using a DJI Osmo action 4. 4k 50fps. Filmed in D-log M. Sharpness set to -2. At the end I use film convert Nitrate with an Eterna film simulation to reduce the harsh digital look.
The Nikon Deep Tone Monochrome seems to really pull down the blues (dark skies), whilst the Kodak paper seems to pull down the reds (better for portraits). Either of these effects is very easy to reproduce in LightRoom. The truth is that there is no single way of translating colour to black & white.
I like the output of the Deep Monochrome profile. Very nice. More dynamic.
Me too, its a fantastic profile
I wonder if using Nikon D Lighting would lift the shadows and make it closer to the TriX straight out of camera.
Tri X is actually is almost identical to Nikons normal monochrome. Deep tone seems to emulate a red filter, darkening all the blues. I might shoot a roll with a red filter to check it out.
Stunning images! Have you develop film there also?
I developed at home, with Rodinal and scanned using the GFX.
For me Zadar is more nice in colour, warm light and old buildings = summer. Going there for holidays. I'm using monochrome only for portraits I thing that is more about clean personality than in colour.
Agreed, it looks very nice when the sun gets low.😄
Love the filmy look of the TriX more than the Deeptone Monochrome. Thanks for your fantastic comparison 😊
Thanks. There is something special about Tri X😊
Well done!
Thanks, appreciate it
So warm… so much sun 😂 why do I live so far north?! Great job again. Thanks for getting me out of the cold city. If only for a few minutes. Looking forward to the next!
Thanks, I appreciate that😀
I think the Zf is the best travel and hiking camera. Going light without tripod. For a more planned shoot , landscape, macro I would choose the gfx. Colors are great on both. I like Nikon flat profile, great pastel colors. I seem to always grab the Nikon these days, mostly because its such a joy to shoot with. If you need 100mp for a professional project that would be a case for the GFX. Also the large GFX files is a problem with disk space. I constantly have to make room for new files. I conclusion, the Nikon for everything casual, GFX for very pro situations.
@@OrtwinSchneider yes I miss the xpan modus on the Nikon. Its my favourite as well.
When considering monochrome for a shot, I may use an in-camera mono mode* to make it easier to see a potential image, but I use JPGs for reference and only process RAWs, so it really doesn't matter much what it looks like in camera. I can get much better results in Silver Efex Pro (or DxO PhotoLab/FilmPack) than via any other digital tech (in-camera or post). *I'm loving the Leica Monochrome mono mode in my Lumix G9M2 but L Monochrome D is also nice. However, you have so much more control in post and DxO has more accurate (and easily tweakable) film simulations than anyone else (including Fujifilm and it also has Tri-X). It doesn't matter as much if one only posts, but for prints (the only real photographs), it makes a huge difference. p.s. Love the name "Rh negative"--clever.
Agreed to all that. I think its really helpful with a great in camera BW profile when starting out with black and white photography. Acros made me shoot more BW and now deep tone monochrome is my default setting.
Looking at the side by side comparisons in this video, I totally prefer the Nikon
I think so too.
I always went back to standard mono with Fujifilm. Digital Acros always felt too flat to me. There's a sense of micro contrast or clarity missing because of the stylised tone curve that Fujifilm uses. I personally always want to boost the mid and highlights and bring the black point back down. I don't own a Nikon so I can't say for sure, but here I'd pick the Nikon every time, honestly. 👑
Agreed, the standard monochrome is underrated. They should have given it a cool name.
Tack så mycket 🙌
Varsegod👍
Thank You! Great comparison. I also like and use Deep Tone on my ZF, since I got the camera on it's launce. Lg
The deep tone monochrome is now my favourite profile. It doesent always work, but when it does its magic.
