Actually African Pygmy hedgehogs kept in captivity are domesticated. Still love the bioactive setups tho and am doing one for my hedgie <3
Nevermind you answered already!☺
How often do you have to change the dirt?
Will it have lesser smell with this setup?
hello, I would like to ask how much sphagnum moss have you used. Thanks:)
How is Doby doing? We never got an update!
hi? is Dobby okay?
What a great video. I look forward to the classrooms reopening and you getting to post more about your classroom critters and updates ont hem as well!
Thanks for all the good info. I put my bioactive home together at the first of the year and my hedgie loves it! He has even lost some weight, which is fantastic (he was getting a little big). My biggest question now is how many bugs and how often do I replenish? I started with about 100 mealworms and 100 dubia roaches, plus some isopods and springtails. I'm starting to see little poops showing up again so I think I need to replenish, but should I use the same numbers? I'm a little worried about overloading the system if I get that many. And do I need to keep my hedgie separate for a few days to let the new bugs establish?
Update?
We're going to be posting an update video later this week :)
How often do you have to clean out or pick up a bio active enclosure?
You might have to pick out the poop and pee until the clean up crew can get established in the cage/tank, after that you don’t have to at all. Some people let the tank sit for a couple months to let the clean up crew establish them they put the animal in there, but either way it works!
I've never had to clean out or pick up anything within the bioactive habitat. The clean-up crew went to work quickly and, plus, with it feeling more natural, Dobby doesn't mind if there are little pieces of poop on the surface.
awesome! giving the kids a good example on how to take are of animals :)
Thank you so much! It's definitely a lot of fun to see the kids so interested in animals.
Hi!! I'm just curious to see how this cage worked for you? I'd love to get the same one (versus the amazon basics one) but it's about 7 inches shorter than the amazon basics one, so I just wanted to see if you think the substrate was deep enough, held in everything - bugs, waste, soil, etc. or if you ran into issues with the blue part being too shallow? Also, any updates or feedback on your experience would be awesome as I start to prepare a bioactive enclosure for my new hedgie!!
Hi! We're sorry it look us a while to respond.
This was so helpful! I have the same shelter and have been wanting to do a bio active for my hedgehog I got a few months ago but wasn't sure if I would need a different or shelter or not! Thank you 😊
We're so glad you found it helpful! The shelter I currently has has held up great. We hope you were able to great an amazing bioactive habitat for your hedge.
This is so nice ❤️
Thanks!
This is great! You’re giving your Hedgehogs great quality of life
Thank you! Dobby is, for sure, a big fan of her new habitat.
