I need your help. I have an arab who is very large for her breed. Western is always my favorite; however, I am training her proper and need her shoulders to be worked more. Therefore, for this, I use an english. BUT, she is so large that I have her fit to a 30-32 inch conch otherwise you cannot see the cinch on either side of her. BUT, even on the very first notch in the billet straps, the buckle of the cinch ends up being so tight you cannot get it off and she is uncomfortable. The cinch is perfect for her but I cannot attach due to it being too tight. I cannot make another notch because there is not enough leather. Do you have any suggestions for this?

Do you know the background on this person? She came and taught us a clinic and things did not go well. She did one in one help with each person. However, my horse and I were struggling with her communicating the expectations of her techniques. She even took the lead rope from me, and started yanking on it in an aggressive way. Even though she kept telling me I wasn’t allowed to tell him no. It ended up with her aggressively grabbing my face and rubbing my cheeks roughly because horses hate having their faces rubbed. Then when she didn’t get a reaction from me, she started to knock on my head pretty hard. I asked for an apology and she got an attitude and wouldn’t apologize. She definitely showed us her true colors. This lady wants to try and say she creates and peace and calm, but she started correcting me before I even knew what the expectations were. Honestly, I never did figure out what she was trying to accomplish.

Thank you for this explanation. Especially the seat. This has definitely cleared it up for me. I am what I'd call l a total beginner in dressage and training a horse. However very keen to get it right for my horse. I am using the opening rein however still struggling at times. So will try the seat you describe. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Sadly a lack of extra funds and where I live has made it hard to get regular lessons and from someone truly knowledgeable in the past. So relying on studying and also watching videos like yours. You explain every thing very well. In the past I have found others' (instructors, other riders ) explanations and direction totally confusing in regards to the leg yeild. So gave up on this. Now concentrating instead on asking my new instructor - (classically trained) to take me back to the beginning and install the correct basic foundations for us both. We have come a long way in a short time with her instruction. My horse is a very sensitive, sensible and willing partner and when I get it right she follows easily. So she makes life easier, I definitely want to make it easier on her to get it right. Thank you.❤
