Now I know what I want to do with my original 1863 Springfield. Mine was bubba’d by hillbillies in the 1870’s or 1880’s in the same way. Sportorized stock and bored out to 20 gauge, y’all have given me an idea of how I want to breathe new life into my gun. Thank you!!!

@@Interp66, I have a wonderful update for you buddy. I thoroughly cleaned my piece and have discovered that this gun still has its progressive depth rifling intact. It’s just worn really low to the point of looking smooth at the first inch into the barrel. Beyond that first inch the rifling is actually shiny, I’m shocked beyond belief because I thought for sure that this was going to need a sleeve installed. I finally got the bright idea of dropping my bore light down the barrel to get a better view of what I have to work with.
That’s awesome; when you are ready, I know a guy who does really great work lining a barrel and rifling.

Your sieve filter is pump fed, therefore your outlet needs to be twice the size of the inlet. Your outlet hose is not wide enough. Good luck.
