Long Distance Farmer
Registrace 23. 05. 2012
Spencer Bruton is a 15 year old student who enjoys working on his Pa's farm in Johnston County, NC, and on our Montgomery County, NC hay farm. His family often joins him on his adventures, especially his Dad, Isaac. The two farms are separated by over 100 miles, so it makes for interesting adventures; especially since our hay tenant is no longer in business! That means we have to keep the fields mowed, build some paths for the four-wheeler, and clear the creek. We are NOT in the hay business! Needless to say, there are lots of projects for these suburbanites!

The Little Tractor that Could (move a log)
zhlédnutí 299Před 2 lety
Which tractor ends up moving this log out of the way? Is horsepower and weight enough, or could it be something else? Three contenders give it all they've got. Will it be the sub-compact 1025r, the light-weight Farmall Cub, or the heavy-weight John Deere 5300? (Plus an update on the pumpkin patch experiment)
Leveling the Playing Field
zhlédnutí 142Před 2 lety
Grady had some wind blown trees removed, leaving some rough terrain. We are going to help level the ground with the 1025r, 120r loader, and the Frontier RT3049 tiller. Grady puts the X748 to work a bit, too.
When friends/family want to help; recipe for disaster
zhlédnutí 214Před 3 lety
Family and friends can often be well-intentioned. But, when inexperienced operators use the equipment, it often ends with more trouble. Such is the case this time that leads to another rebuilt slip-clutch on the John Deere MX-6 rotary cutter.

I Love the Big Seat, Dang Little Cub Pulling Dat Plow !!
Wonderful job adjusting speed so the durt turns perfect grass down roots up a lot of people move through the field way to fast
Would likecto see how the parts work not the little boyvdriving
You put a mulching kit on that mower you don’t need a sweeper or a bagger
Good time to bring up the fact that when operating a tractor... you shouldn't be anywhere near where the tractor is about to be, so many people have died because of accidents.
Idk, that ground don't look so virgin. Looks like it was plowed a few weeks ago.
Spent many days and hours on a 140 working out tobacco. We use it in the garden now.
Would adding a coulter in front of the plow cut the sod and make a smoother lay over?
Yes
More weight
how many horse power have the tractor?
Put a layer of greese on your plow so it wont be all rusted next time you need it
Y’all made it look Good!
Respect!!! Bravo!!!
I have 184 planter like the one you are planting with. I just purchased the gauge depth plates and see that you have them on your planter. I can’t get mine mounted like they should and was wanting to see if you had any pictures of your planter from the side view? Also you mentioned planting sunflowers with a cotton plate, have you ever tried planting sunflowers with a corn plate ?
I just bought an Alis Chalmers 5030
Definitely needed more weights
Riding the clutch the whole time. Ugh. Don’t “tractor” in shower flip flops for any reason. JMO
My Grandfather had two cubs, and I'd spend summers as a kid plowing and cultivating for him in NC. This was the early 90's. Great memories
There's no whine like that of a Farmall Cub. The first tractor I ever drove or used was Grandpa's 55 model.
It would leave a cleaner furrow if you had a Coulter installed That is the disk that cuts the sod
I thought the same thing, might make the next passes with the wheels in the furrow better..
He said early in the video that they forgot to bring it. Still didn’t do too bad of a job without it.
Bring the bail up higher the top of the disc frame should be parallel to the ground when the disc is in the soil
Do you have a better view of the spring?
How did you end up fixing it. I have the same issue?
This kid would be hurtin if he had no help
Try no power steering at least you have some wussy
Has your 140 been converted to 12v or is it still 6v?
After plowing, do you disc the soil? I'm all new to this whole thing. I own a 1.3 acre lot was thinking of possibly buying a cub from someone on FB marketplace. Would this be too much tractor for my little plot? Have always wanted to plant my own corn and potatoes and a few other things.
This size tractor is good for that but look for one that comes with stuff already sometimes you can find them with plows and discs
I never thought a cub could break new ground.
these were breaking in new ground before we were born. assuming ur not an elderly man
You think this would be ok to use on slopes going up and down? My yard is hilly and I really need a sprayer for my x590.
I've still got and use my Granddaddy's Farmall Cub and all the bells and whistles that go with it he bought it brand new in 1949, it was and will be the first and last tractor I've ever drove very proud of it
Had a 49 fo 30 years
Respect!!! 🤝🤝🤝
Are you going to be doing more videos with the John Deere 44 inch lawn sweeper ?
Great cultivating tractors, always wanted one,
love seeing these old tractors still earning their keep...
Cool 😎 tractor 🚜 parade 🤠
Cub will do more than people give it credit for. Its just smaller and takes more time.
Does your pa still have his allis chalmers tractor?
Great job.
This is one of the WORST things you can do to ANY mower with a hydro transmission. If you pull anything heavier than a mower yard cart your gonna cause your hydro transmission to fail/ tear up and once that happens your looking at $650 just for the transmission part. In other words you just destroyed your mower.
Wish I had ground like that..way to much clay in this area!! My dad bought his cub in 1950..he did a lot of work with that tractor.
Mantap mesinnya unik
Did y'all widen the rear wheels and do you have a video of it?
No. We did not widen the rear. Thanks for watching!
Looks great! And for the best cause! Keep it up, we need to organize a ride like that here in South Georgia!
I want a lawn so I can get me one of those super satisfying sweepers. Maybe restrict the distance the mower throws the clippings to keep the clippings in the footprint of the sweeper. Thanks for sharing
Is it possible to change the narrow front end of a farmall row crop tractor to a wide front axle?
As far as I know, you can if you can find the correct wide front axle. Those tractors could be purchased with either the 2 wheel tricycle front, tricycle front with 1 big wheel or a wide axle adjustable front end. I've seen them with all 3 configurations. The B I believe only came as a tricycle tractor with 1 or 2 wheels but I have seen at least 2 that were refitted with a wide front axle.
Hook the Swisher up behind that kid and let him go!
That would be a sight!
Do y'all stay overnight when you make the trip there? Staying with family or do you have a house on the property or have a camper?
Rarely do we spend the night as there is no home on the property. Our family has a home about three miles away that we may use on occasion. The thought of putting a single-wide mobile home or a camper is appealing.
@@longdistancefarmer7836 man that makes for some long days!! That travel time both ways and then work on top of it!! Starting with a workable camper might be a good option even if you need to run a generator for power and bring in water with you. Like camping but not with the hastle of a tent and the mess when it rains. Also give you another place besides the truck or shed when it rains while there to hang out.
Keep your old ones, keep them out of the sun. The new ones you have to buy the replacement spouts and put the vents in them.
Piece of junk is not what I called them🤬
Just gotta let go of the money for an Eagle metal can and/or a good metal funnel. I hate those plastic tanks, too. Pasture looks good.
Never heard of Eagle, but we looked them up. Are the cumbersome?
@@longdistancefarmer7836 not any more than a plastic one of the same size. Five gallons is a little heavy either way you lug it, but the gas won't pour until you pull the handle.
