    “Little goes a long way” In most scenarios that is true, but for anything that contacts metal on metal directly, especially a moving part should be generously coated like slathered basically before putting them back on. I know it seems excessive but if you think that then pull your crank spindle out, grease it up and slide it back and forth through the bearings a couple times, I bet you everytime it’ll come out after just a couple swipes almost dry the grease just gets smothered up into crevices and isn’t actually helping until you really get the whole surface covered completely. Otherwise why even use it. To make getting parts on and off easier? That’s not what that’s for. We have penetrating oil for it

      During heavy rain, I use the most popular trail in the Seattle area, and during the evening commute after dark in winter, there are at least a couple bicycles a mile coming the other way. The rail trail over the Cascade Mountains is more of a park trail situation, and it has hiking and biking campgrounds on it. No permit, first come, first served. I guess we have a very different attitude toward night use of bicycle trails.

    • @DakotaDunlap69
      @DakotaDunlap69 Před měsícem

      @MTBSPD It's hit and miss around here because everything is individually governed by each county, unless it's state or federally owned, which actually tends to be more lenient or has reasonable rules in place. The Slippery Elm is funded by the Wood County Parks District, but the North Coast Inland Trail is mostly funded by the federal government and is also partially funded by private organizations and local governments. Long story short, if a trail connects two or more cities or towns, then it should be deemed unlawful to hinder one's constitutional right to travel by any means, including that of a curfew.

      In my opinion, any point-to-point trail that leads to multiple cities and/or towns should not have a curfew. There's no getting stuck, really, unless you misinterpreted the rules or underestimated your own ability to make it off the trail in time, sort of like I did, or you were on par for being off the trail by the time it were to close but had an emergency of sorts. Even then, there are some county roads and highways that run parallel to the trail, but they increase the potential of being put in harm's way by traffic. It's not that there aren't alternatives to the trail; it's just that those alternatives make things less safe and less convenient. People who choose or possibly even need to commute by alternative means shouldn't be kicked into the streets at night.

      I'm not sure how all of that works. This trail is 13 miles long and has dozens of signs throughout. Any one of those signs could say something about trespassing past a certain time. I'm also not 100% sure if this trail is privately owned and just open to the public. In my opinion, they should simply have signs that are very clear and specific about the regulations without having to use an external source of information about its usage. Ironically, the county website contradicts the officer and the signs posted along the trail, saying it closes 30 minutes after sunset. So, WTF actually knows? 🤣

    There is no interpretation for sunset. The law for sunset is based on the time NOAA says the sun sets. On every smart phone there is a weather setting, go to that, and it will give the actual time used by law enforcement for sunset, just as it does for sunrise. All law enforcement use this standard. Wildlife officers and hunters use this to set times for hunting/shooting before and after sunrise/sunset. Also, the police aren’t being petty, that is a rule/law that everyone is expected to follow. They didn’t make the rules/laws, they are just tasked with enforcing them.

      Trail sign: CLOSED 1 HR. PAST SUNSET Google defines sunset as: "the time in the evening when the sun disappears or daylight fades." 8:30 PM in Northwest Ohio: Sun completely, bright yellow and orange hues visible on the horizon; still daylight. 9:05 PM in Northwest Ohio: Sun not visible, purple and blue hues on the horizon; daylight has almost completely faded, the sun has set. Me: It's 9:05 PM, the sun has disappeared, and daylight has almost completely faded. If I hustle, I should make it back to my vehicle before it closes. Officer: Sunset is at 8:30 PM. Also, Google: Sunset is at 8:34 PM. Conclusion: The sign doesn't specify when sunset is or what their definition of sunset is. I, the officer, and Google all have differing times when sunset is. It's up to interpretation.

I have NEVER heard of a trail being closed at night. It seems like a pretty petty thing to stop someone for that doesn't look to be up to no good. Just a dude pedaling home, trying to be conscious of the environment (I don't by into that stuff but plenty do so that make them stop and think). It's a Rural area, what harm is it to be out on a bicycle? So you tell me as a kid and I got stuck out at night they rather I pedal on the roadway then a dedicated trail? That seems nutty you spent money building a trail in a rural area, does the area have so much issues with people that they need such a law or was it a knee jerk reaction to a non problem! I'd challenge that in court, but I like that sort of thing. Put those towns on blast, and the police they have discretion and should be able to see the law is stupid. $3.52 aint that bad compared to $5 in Cali!

    • @DakotaDunlap69
      @DakotaDunlap69 Před 2 měsíci

      In my opinion, $3.52 is quite steep for Ohio, especially considering my longer commute compared to what I'm accustomed to. Some areas even reached $3.80. However, since the recording of this video, prices have slightly decreased.

      Thanks! I ride a Steel XL 6KU Single Speed/Fixie. The bike featured in all my previous videos from last year was a 6KU Barcelona; although I'm unsure of the size, it was slightly smaller than my current one. Both were secondhand purchases-the Barcelona for $25 and the Steel XL 6KU Single Speed/Fixie for $40. Despite needing some work, investing $50 to $100 to customize them to my preferences was worthwhile, especially considering the low initial cost. Additionally, the process taught me a great deal about bike repair. In summary, 6KU bikes offer affordability, simplicity, and reliability, capable of enduring thousands of miles with proper maintenance.

    $4.99/gallon here in Seattle. I’ve been working from home but I started a new job this week and tried the commute on my bike. It takes about as long to ride as it does to drive.

      Yeah, these gas prices are ridiculous. Biking to work is a great option to save a bit of money and to get some cardio in, but yeah, it's not the greatest time saver.
