    Try specticle flo / esplanade (commercial form of Specticle Flo/ cheaper given higher percentage of Indaziflam - 19.05% vs 7.4%) / rezilon (cheapest form of same product as Esplanade). It's the best preemergent for poa and there's only a few rare instances of resistances documented in the US at this time. You may want to rotate your mode of action each year to prevent resistant weeds. Indaziflam is group 29, prodiamine is group 3.

    • @thomasturftips1427
      @thomasturftips1427 Před rokem

      it was just ok. i verticut twice (once in may and a second time in august). the grass was still too thick in the end and the mower started floating on top again. i am going to reduce my inputs (nitrogen and water) to see what that does. this year, i verticut + scalped at green up. so far i am very pleased! hope to have everything dialed in this year 🤞

    • @jeffbridges7009
      @jeffbridges7009 Před rokem

      @Thomas' Turf Tips im having the same issue. For two years in a row now. I put a metric ton of high nitrogen fertilizer and water the hell out of the grass and by August I am fighting my reelmower just to cut it. I don't want to scalp because it's 110 degrees outside in se new mexico, and I would die trying. I watched the howtowithdoc vid about verticutting and he says it's the answer, but who knows.

    • @thomasturftips1427
      @thomasturftips1427 Před rokem

      i don’t think verticutting is the answer. i put down 2lbs N/1000 last year and will be reducing it to 0.75 this year. Also, the water will be dialed back to 75% of what it was last year. And, finally, I’ll be cutting back cutting frequency to 1x/week. All of things I am getting from the Greendoc whom I have a lot of respect for…a real pro!

    Do you scalp your lawn in the spring? I scalp in the spring and last year fertilized the hell out of my yard and by August, I gave up mowing it. It was kicking my butt too hard. Just curious if you scalp in the spring and verticut in the summer.

    • @thomasturftips1427
      @thomasturftips1427 Před rokem

      Yes, I scalp in the Spring and this year I used the Sunjoe verticutter attachment to help with the dethatching. If you have a mature lawn, try dialing back the N this year. I am planning on dialing mine back to just 1lb of N this season for the same reason as you (I was getting overworked with cutting). If my plan is successful, I hope not to have to verticut again this season 🤞

    Is the rest of your yard the GCI Bermuda? I’ve been considering the Alpha elite and Royal TXD for my reno but there aren’t any seeding videos using the GCI besides Pete’s and even he replaced the alpha elite he grew. I am pleased with the the GCI bermuda. It filled in nicely but is not the quality of the 419. I may try to overseed my common bermuda with the GCI seed as it is definitely a better turf than common. • @thomasturftips1427
      @thomasturftips1427 Před rokem

      Yes, per the label you are to mix the entire contents (1.5 dry oz) at once (because it is a non-homogenous mixture). I chose to mix it in a 1 gallon (128 liq oz) nurse tank. So, per the label, it is 1.5 dry oz per acre and, when placed in a one gallon nurse tank, you would apply 2.9 liq oz of the nurse mixture per 1000ft^2. The reason I did not blanket spray was that I did not have a widespread poa infestation...just some patches here and there. Hope this helps!
