Id be stuck trying to load up on all the fish at the docs! So insanely jealous man good stuff
I was sooo tempted to buy a small rod and reel combo while I was there for exactly that reason 😂
Awesome!
Thanks for watching man!
Crazy! Great work.
Thank you sir! 🫡
There beautiful beasts, I can’t imagine how big that thing is now.
Yep! I’m guessing at least 50lbs now!
Use same rig for years now and firmly believe in it
Nice! Definitely one of my favorites
Really good video i have started doing some flathead fishing and all of that heavy gear is definity needed for the resivors and some rivers.
Thanks man! Yep, heavy gear in the bigger lakes and rivers when you know structure is near by. Urban is fun on light stuff
Enjoy the channel! I’m taking my kiddo to Roosevelt tomorrow to try and get some flathead. Is is usually best to head up the river or fish the main lake?
Thanks man! Good luck! The river can be absolutely amazing but this time of year I’d stick to main lake more. Spring is usually great for the river and then I fish mainlake pretty much summer till fall when I go
Awesome video! If you wanna do some more creek fishing let me know I’ve got a couple places!
Thanks man, I appreciate it!

TD up north ! Jake hit his stride on that creek bro broke out the fly
Haha you know it! Jake made me wish I brought my fly rod! 😂
That's was pretty cool Always be prepared.
Definitely haha
Lived in AZ my whole adult life, never knew there were fish un these little lakes.
Yep! Only certain ones though. You should be able to find out on Game and Fish’s website about what they stock. The vast majority don’t have fish 😂
Dope man definitely looks like fun been wanting to get up there and get some trout action
Thanks man! It's super nice up there getting out of the heat haha
@@TDFishing hahaha yea I know exactly what you mean
And for keeping flies dry use a "floatant". Its an oil that is rubbed on them. Flies treated with Thompson's water seal days before works too. And also, flies made of naturally buoyant materials like deer hair which is hollow, and when tied, the hairs act like "floaties" .
@@J0Gu7 that’s some good info! Definitely need to try that next time. We definitely struggled with them sinking too much. Thanks!
For that kind of water, A roll cast would be perfect. Jake would not need the "space " behind him except for 2-3 feet.
That definitely makes sense! We'll have to try that next time!
Had the opportunity to fish these lakes earlier this month with my grandpa and hurt my knee before the trip. BS!
Awe man that sucks! You gotta try again soon!
Excellent presentation. Extra credit for the underwater camera shot. Tight lines to ya!!
Thank you! Tight lines to you as well my friend!
2:00 as a havasu local this happens way to damn much. They get way to close to docks, boats, and even kayaks. People come into town rent a jet ski for the first time and go crazy 😂
Seriously haha they think there are no rules and go crazy every time 😂
Where was this? I hear power boats in the back ground yet i know that not Havasu waters. Awesome video
This one was at Roosevelt! Thanks for watching!
What’s with the bobber why not just drop the bait on the bottom my friend
Great question! I recently made a video going over exactly this rig haha basically this rig is a way to keep your bait off the bottom. When you fish a bait on the bottom, they like to hide in rocks, bushes, or anything else they can. The bobber rig keeps your bait near the bottom because of a heavy led but not actually on the bottom. Keeps your bait visible for predators and the bait constantly wants to swim to cover but can’t.
I'm in Havasu. We catch flats year round. Hit me up sometime!
sick video! never been to this lake is there any good spots for bank fishing here? I don't got no boat LOL
Thanks for watching! Yeah, there is actually a good amount of shore fishing there. SB cove and Bartlett flats has lots of shore like you can drive right to the water. It’s been getting busy though so try to do mid week or early Friday/Saturday morning to claim a spot.
I finished the challenge and claimed my sweater n koozie this summer!
Heck ya, that’s awesome! Have you don’t the wild ones yet? I think if you do both you get the gold coin
Soad outro was beautiful
Heck ya haha
love that lake man great trout in there now
Yesssir 🫡
I live in AZ and me and my family won’t even go to crescent lake anymore cause all it is is sea weed, next time try west fork of black river, awesome video
Haha I don’t blame you. It was nuts 😂 thanks for the heads up on West Fork!
Lmao how summer times lake trout fishing be 😭 slow that fly rod cast half the speed haha 🤙🏼
You know it 😂 and thanks for the heads up on the rod speed!
So sick man excited for part 2. I’ve never caught cutthroat or brook so it was awesome seeing those
@@FishingWithPorter for sure thanks man! Nice haha they are fun fish! It’s nice getting me species for sure! In AZ too. I want to try this challenge again soon

Haha I live in flip flops at the lake!
Awesome vid as always!
Thank you sir 🫡
Hey, could you please tell me where to find the keep net y'all use? Thanks
I wish I could! We got it on Catfish connection forever ago. It used to also be available on carp anglers website but I haven’t been able to find it for years now
Where are you fishing at here?
Bartlett! Back when the water was up though
Thank you so much for all the info. Picking up the rod now, do you like the M/H 6.0 or 6,6ft version? love your content!!!
Thanks man!! I have a 6’ MH spinning and a 6’6 MH in casting. Absolutely love both! I don’t think you can go wrong with either lengths. They have a nice light tip and strong back bone. Very light weight but strong
@@TDFishing Thanks again!
One more question, I was searching for a large collapsible fish basket but cant find one as big as I see you using to hold the big ones till morning. Is there a brand I could look for or are they called something different?
Nice fish bro
Thanks man!
Blessings to you guys for releasing those fish unharmed.
the shots in this one were siccck
Need to bring back my DSLR 🫡
Nice catches! Just curious tho - why keep them in the livewell and bring them all the way back to your launch site to release them vs just letting you know them go where they were caught?
Thanks! A lot of us keep them overnight for a few reasons. Sometimes fish get injured or hooked weird to where they might not actually survive even if you release them right away (rare but it happens), deeper water fish that don’t swim down well since the pressure builds up in their air bladder so the livewell keeps them until they can equalize that pressure. We also keep smaller fish semi regularly and keeping them alive overnight lets us decide if we want to keep them haha sometimes we just get lazy in the morning and can release them healthy. Almost always the fish held overnight are supercharged by morning so you can easily tell they’ll swim off strong. I’ve seen and had my own fish get released right away only to float belly up (I had a kayak so I was able to retrieve them). The worst thing I want to do is release a fish that swims off but ends up dying and going to waste. I’d rather hold them overnight to make sure they can swim off strong. If they don’t, I harvest them. Catfish are tough and rarely do they not make it but I’ve been fishing for them for over 20 years and have seen them not make it after getting released a number of times. Lastly is for video purposes. It’s better on camera to show the fish and pictures (this one is obviously not the main reason but is a reason). I also rarely drag fish to a beach to release. This instance we had a friend with his kids that wanted to see them so we brought them over and my buddy harvested one of his. That was a long explanation 😂
@@TDFishing that makes sense and I appreciate the explanation. Wish you continued success and look forward to more great videos
@ethanchandler7097 much appreciated!
TD can you catch flathead year round or is there a season? Dope video brother 👊🏼
You can definitely catch them year round. I’ve caught flats every month of the year but there are slower seasons. The best times to fish are probably April-June and September-December 1st. Mid winter and mid summer are usually slow times but you can definitely catch them!
@@TDFishing thank you brother 👊🏼

That’ll work!
When would you say is the best time for flats ? Worst time? The bite has been super slow been to barlett 3 times with nothing but a few channels
Best I would say is April and May for spring and October and November for fall. Mid summer is pretty rough. A lot of them are spawning and are just harder to catch. Also January to February is usually really slow. I usually fish for flats from March till June, fish for other species in the summer, and then resume again around September till December for Arizona. Other states are different. Bartlett has been pretty slow and will be slow for a while. You 100% can catch them year round but it’s definitely less right now
@@TDFishing thanks bro I’m from flagstaff so still kinda local but we had no flatties so it’s a whole other world for me to learn . I’ve studied them a lot and I think the bite is so trash rn bc of the spawn definitely it’s peak season until August right? My buddy caught a 32 pounder but that’s been it we’ve been hours on the banks with nothing but maybe a channel or 2. Thanks for that info though that really helps. I’ve been skunked so much this last month I might give up until maybe mid August lol
@Jesusbeni47 haha no problem at all! Yeah, enjoy nicer weather fishing for a while 😂 that’s what I do. It’s hot as hell until September lol you’ll enjoy other fishing more right now over a random lucky flathead here and there haha
Did the ceramic in th4 guides have a nick? Also who made that bait box?
I don’t think so. It was a new rod and it broke 20ft off the rod tip. Bobby made it forever ago. It was a deep freezer
@TDFishing it's a good bait box for sure. Damn. I wish he would of got that flat
@jessejamesmcguire yep haha it works amazing!
Thank you for sharing brother keep them coming we enjoy these👊🏼 every time your pretty much slaying them, TD fishing rig!!!
Haha thanks! Will do 🫡
