    I am a muscle car owner and restore muscle cars! Well, i prefer to drive an EV as my daily. Im a huge fan. My volt is 8 years old, battery is going strong. I also like 911’s, miatas. What i hate are minivans and driving large pick up trucks. Just cant get into those. I tried driving large pickups and cant stand it!!

    I’m not an EV hater, I think a Model 3 would be a fantastic commuter car if you can charge it at home. But EV’s aren’t a do all answer, just like a F350 has its purpose. I don’t think the government should tell everyone it’s EV or nothing.

  • @ck3561
    @ck3561 Před 2 dny

    Take your EV up the hill to go wood cutting and load your trailer. Live full time in northern Idaho plowing your roads. Tow your fifth wheel. Travel from Idaho to Wyoming with two stops for fuel. My F350 powerstroke diesel does.

      @ck3561 Před 2 dny

      Haha no, would have been cool but the 450 weighs more so your payload capacity drops a little bit. With gear firewood and hitch and of course the family. My hitch weight would be over well over the 450 capacity. I’m sure it’s fine and can handle it but if you ever have an accident or pulled over you could be liable for being overloaded. It’s a big deal up here.

    Why buy an electric car when a gas or hybrid car is cheaper to own and works in all climates. I have no problem with electric cars just don’t make the tax payers fund the added cost to buy and the increased infrastructure so some rich guy can drive their expensive electric car. Why should a fast food worker help pay so someone can drive a $100,000 electric car? So that the increase in global warming can be decreased by 0.01 degree? Let EVs survive on there own if they can.

    EV have no advantage but a lot of minuses. Maybe that is why 50 percent of Telsa owners go back to gas. I think hybrids are the way to go as they take advantage of wasted energy in braking that gas cars waste. I have a hybrid Maverick . The simple to maintain is NOT true. Cost of OVERALL all ownership is NOT less than a hybrid Not even close. You saying once they try it they will like it is again false by Tesla 50 percent go back to gas. NOT a fan of plug in hybrids . NOT worth the added cost in what you save in gas. MOST of the time its not worth it Exceptions do apply but majority it does NOT. Several grand more for plug in battery . I average 40 mpg with roof rack and ladders on top . The horse and buggy to car comparison is NOT valid here. As Gas cars were much better than horse and buggy. EV car to gas cars are NOT. They are a step backwards.

    The deal is with the state of "lithium ion" battery technology. EVs are great local vehicles. You dont need to be looking for chargers because you can charge at home with a dryer outlet. No impact to the grid except for an extra dryer load. When the battery technology evolves then driving beyond local will be practical. I was one of those who looked at the Slingshot's with disgust. I have ridden motorcycles for over 40 years but the time comes for all of us when we can't do the things we once did. My first adventure in to moving from 2 wheels was a CanAm Spyder, which was great...nothing but good things to say about them. When my wife no longer wanted to ride on it, I switched back to 2 wheels (Indian) but 2 years in, started having some health issues. I looked at options and decided to give the Slingshot a try. I really love mine (R manual) and the bonus is my wife really loves it. You don't have to "dress for the slide" as they say, and it's easy to hop in and go. So this gives us a fun activity we can enjoy together that gives us the feeling of freedom a motorcycle does. We've owned many convertibles and Jeeps over the years and also have a Gladiator currently with the doors and top off. We love it as well and use it as intended often but it's not the same as the Slingshot. You have to think of the Slingshot as a motorcycle. Neither have heat/air, both will get you wet if it rains, neither offer much in the way of protection, although the Slingshot is inherently safer. The comparison to a Miata, which always pops up on every review from a car guy is really unfair and they are far from the same. I've owned Miata's. They are great cars. If I had wanted another Miata or similar, I'd have have one now. The Slingshot is not for everyone just like anything else. But it fits our lifestyle just fine and we couldn't be happier.

      The only concrete sales information from the Forbes article is a primary reference to Cox Auto Inc data, which concludes with "Cox Automotive forecasts EV sales in the U.S. to increase year over year in 2024, making this year the best year ever for EV sales. Analysts expect EV sales to reach roughly 10% of the market by the end of the year, up from 7.3% in the first quarter." Further, while 1Q was the first ever Q/Q drop in EV sales, it followed a very strong Q4'23 which saw a mad rush to the finish line by several EV only manufacturers aiming to hit EOY targets. There was definitely a new year lull in manufacturing, delivery and booked sales for Q1, that STILL represented a y/y increase.

    • @ROMRreviews
      @ROMRreviews Před 13 dny

      In addition, per Forbes article: Sales Surge Shows The Electric Car’s Death May Have Been Greatly Exaggerated - Jul 15, 2024 - New reports suggest that the handwringing earlier in the year regarding plummeting electric vehicle sales all but killing off the segment could well have been a premature burial. Kelley Blue Book reports that 330,463 EVs were sold in the U.S. during the second quarter of the year, which is an 11.3% boost over the same period in 2023, and is 23% better than during the first quarter. They comprised 8% of all new-vehicle sales on the quarter, which surpasses the previous record of 7.2% set a year earlier. And this flies in the face of Tesla sales, once the bellwether measure measurement of the segment’s health, slipping by 6.3% in the second quarter, year over year. KBB data shows Tesla now accounting for 49.7% of all EV sales in the U.S., which is down from a full 75% in 2022. “EV sales exceeded expectations during a record-breaking quarter. Increased competition is leading to continued price pressure, gradually boosting EV adoption,” according to Cox Automotive’s Industry Insights Director Stephanie Valdez Streaty. “Automakers that deliver the right product at the right price and offer an excellent consumer experience will lead the way in EV adoption.”

  • @nothingtoseaheardammit

    EV's will never reach mass adoption. Ever. The reason is simple physics - energy density and transfer specifically. You see, people who don't have off-street parking cannot re-orient their lives around sitting at a charging station for 30 minutes or more - nevermind the time spent waiting for a charger. Battery technology cannot fix the recharge rate issue without massive amounts of power being generated and available to *each* charger. When you fill up your ICE vehicle, after two minutes you've essentially transferred he same amount of energy that a 10 MEGAWATT charger would have done in that same amount of time. Even accounting for the "inefficiencies" of the ICE engine and drivetrain - you simply cannot even compare the energy (measured in Joules, btw) involved between the two.

    I think its less about ev and more general product stagnation. Old charger and challenger are dead, and hadn't really changed in like 12 years. Just kept adding power. Pacifica is 7 years old. Dodge dart is dead. Dodge hornet is over priced. I'd argue that all jeep products apply a " it's a jeep" adder, making them uncompetitive when Mazda, Honda, Kia are making similar cuvs.

    Sad that everything has to be politicized. EVs are just another tool at our disposal. They work best for most use cases, but not all. Plugin hybrids also have a niche to fill, but given their complexity most people should skip them. I think most people will be ready to move to full EV quickly after adopting PHEV and it's a shame they can't make that leap without wasting the time and money on the hybrid. But human psychology is a strange thing.

      We absolutely love our plug in hybrid. 1,000 miles to a tank average for commuting and no limits on road trips. Eventually EV infrastructure will replace the need for plugins but it's still a long way off

      If you want to blame anyone for politicization of EV's - blame the political party that made EV's MANDATORY as a cornerstone of their ideology. The infernal EV became the f*cking poster child for the Democrat party immediately when states like California and New York banned all of the alternatives starting in 2035.

    Mating a Engine to a transmission which shifts introduces a lot of stress on the engines components, increases wear on crankshaft bearings and cylinders. Mating a engine to a generator - increases is lifespan by 3-4X, so that engine should essentially never wear out.

      @ROMRreviews Před 18 dny

      Dunno about "never" but it should dramatically increase longevity for numerous reasons. Ram's real challenge will be power management, battery life, electronics.

      @@ROMRreviews the average daily distance driven in a day is about 50 miles. So that will be fully electric 90%+ of the year - so we are looking at running the generator 20-50x a year for those longer trips and towing. (all averages - I know some people are using trucks different) compare this with daily driving - where the engine runs about 300-350x a year. So you are going to use the engine less by giant factor plus in a less taxing way. Sure there will be issues with the electronics - especially in the first year or two. Just saying - the engine should be not the limiting factor of the trucks life anymore - which it is these days.

    I have the Chrysler PHEV Pacifica, I regularly get +60mpg most of the year. In the Upstate NY winters the engine runs more to warm the cabin. If my commute was shorter (+60 miles round trip) the mileage would be even higher. We love it, it’s perfect for our needs. I agree the press does not understand the market. Only Toyota (I guess Stellantis too) seems to get it.

    I think the auto industry pundits don't understand that most of us are only going to have one vehicle and a PHEV let's us have an EV daily driver that can also travel across county and tow your trailer. I've also been interested in the electrified trailers put out by Bowlus and being developed by Airstream and Pebble. With the tough travel trailer market since Covid, i wonder if the big RV makers are willing to invest $10,000 a trailer in electric propulsion.
