It has a cab sim output and a non-simulated output, so if you use that one it'll work pretty much like a preamp 👍

Yeah, I think it's because it's not one of those pedals where you get instant gratification that people decided it wasn't good. If you dig beneath the surface a little, there are tones to be had. Cheers for watching gent and I appreciate the comment too 👍

This has kind of phaser like overtones going on with the volume modulation too. It gives your signal some movement, like a tremolo but in a lot more of an extreme way 👍 hope this helps

Yeah, it can be a bit tricky getting the balance right with reducing the noise without killing the signal. The volume control becomes essential too, being able to shut the pickups off when you're not playing

@@PBOD I guess in some cases depending on the tone, that humming can be reduced by adjusting the volume knob on the guitar (this is essential mainly for high-output pickups) IMHO, the OD -> Fuzz configuration will work for some doom or stoner tones (e.g. the Electric Wizard sound), as said in other comments here, the OD gives punch to fuzz. In turn, Fuzz->OD is a sort of grunge/sludge tone from early 90s (Melvins, Willard etc).

Ikr, I wish there guys would have maybe warned us a little bit... You know, aside from the title saying 'weird'... Oh, yeah, and the thumbnail...🤔 Maybe we should stop clicking on videos about weird pedals if we get upset by videos about weird pedals.

If you put it at the end of the chain, it'll kind of act like a studio comp. It'll glue everything together and give a nice even tone. If you put it at the start, it'll even out pick dynamics and make the tone feel better to play. Experiment and see what you like 👍 let me know what you decide

Aye, they do make some decent stuff tbf. Those plastic pedals used to get a lot of flack until JHS did a video on them showing that they actually produced some great tones

Yeah that’s a fair criticism and a bit of a miss on our end, the main aim was to demonstrate how I had been using it but totally get that it would have been helpful to hear that.

I don’t think there’s a technical limitation as other pedals can do -2 in polyphonic mode, a choice I guess they made to offer the range feature. In defence of boss it is pretty aggressively priced compared to some of the competition but if you need -2 polyphonic then yes, you’ll need to look elsewhere. I can recommend the MXR poly blue octave but keep in mind it’s about £100 more than the boss in the UK, not sure about other regions.

@@PBOD I appreciate the response, especially since it’s so long after this video released. In looking at octave pedals, my top 2 were this and the Poly Blue Octave, but I decided to pass on the PBO because it apparently tracks poorly with guitar in polyphonic mode.

Thanks for the kind words :) The ES-8 has stereo out, so I can choose to mute one side. Also I can use trs cables to switch the channels on each amp from the ES-8.

Yeah, it's got a lot of brightness to it for sure. I was running it into a deluxe patch on the HX stomp for most examples on this demo. It's definitely not your average Marshall in a box or tube screamer clone, so I've got to commend them for trying something a bit different 👍

Absolutely. This was a small snapshot just to open up people to the idea of looking at the order of their FX and how it can impact the tone. Maybe we could do a follow up showing a few different types of fuzz and overdrive as you mentioned to get a deeper dive into the subject. Great shout 👍

Everything gets more intense on it with the mod. Because it uses LED rather than a lamp, I think the light source is a lot more uniform and predictable, so it doesn't quite get as organically throbby as a Shin Ei. It's mega cheap and great fun though 👍

Yup, it's a copy of the electric mistress. I can't say whether it's an accurate one, but I know it's a very solid flanger for the price.
