Dan Fogelberg Live in Concert - Set 2
zhlédnutí 32KPřed 2 lety
My understanding of this show is it is in the early 1980’s when Dan was at the peak of his career (most of the songs are off of Phoenix and The Innocent Age), one of the major networks filmed one of his concerts with the intention of airing it in the near future. Unfortunately, half way through the show Dan’s voice cracked and he lost his falsetto. Consequently, it was never aired. Somehow some...

Digging back through my old DVDs I found one I had made of seeing Dickey Betts at the Fargo Blues Fest in 2003. This was recorded on a digital videotape recorder (yes kids there was such a thing) 5 years before the iPhone 3G came out so be gentle on the recording quality (which has sound much better than I would have thought). This is a medley of some of the ABB songs he played. I was sitting i...

The 1972-82 range of his work was by far my favorite. We were both from Illinois (he from Peoria me from Chicago) and he went to Northern IL. University, I Southern IL University. We were both singer songwriters during that time frame. I did some radio and tv work in the early 70's, but later in the 70's there was a turning point and I went another road not continuing to play professionally heading out West to some mountains. In the end not sorry I did. Settled for having recording studios and getting my work copyrighted.

Don't you just love real live music? No backing tracks, no auto-tune. Just real musicians playing real instruments and singing naturally.

Saw Dan on the Netherlands tour 1977 at Tanglewood. I had front row 2 seats to his left. It was a solo gig. He was excellent and his solo of the title track was amazing. Solo piano and vocal. Great selection of songs❤

I saw Susan as a solo artist open for BB King in ‘98 I believe. Then I saw the ABB the same year and Jack was in the band. In 2000 I saw Derek open for Eric Johnson. I was changed as a musician after this Trifecta. They all contributed to my personal journey and I’m so glad to have seen them all!

My mom used to hear me blasting my Dan Fogelberg albums all the time, and she also grew to love him and his beautiful voice. She and I saw him twice in concert (during this tour!) and to this day, those are my most cherished memories. I miss her, and DF, so much. Both gone too soon.

27:09❤❤ "Just say that once you used to know me". Really touches me. Well the whole last verse I hear you've taken on a husband and child And live somewhere in Pennsylvania I never thought you'd ever sever the string But I can't blame you none So let the ashes fall and lay where they will Just say that, once, you used to know me One last time, sing that old song we used to know But this time, sing (this time, sing) This time, sing just a little more slowly 30:47

I guess everyone's life is just a string of coincidences. I loved Dan Fogelberg and his songs were always on the radio when I lived in San Antonio. I had a favorite place there downtown near the Alamo. Near the Magestic and the old hotels. One night as I sat in an incredible old bar celebrating what seemed to be one of the most triumphant nights of my life, after the completion of a hard and long project and the beginning of the end of my life there. I was not alone but something was aching inside about things I didn't understand. I was missing my grandfather and already missing this whole place, going back to a home I never planned to live in because it just didn't seem real somehow. A place where nothing was old or natural, and I had seen the water halfway up the homes there. Many years prior, actually right after my move from Louisiana to Texas, there were mighty storms and floods. And bent tres in the woods by a river. And my grandfather and parents said it was very risky, if not just bad judgement to settle on river bottom and build on land where palmetto flourished. And so we did exactly that. I remember before the dam went up. I remember seeing signs about how high the water level would be when there was no lake there yet. And it's probably all good, and I don't blame or judge a single entity involved. Something about living below that much water gave me a dark feeling and I let go dreams of Arkansas I looked up at the ceiling of that hotel bar that wasn't thrown up overnight in anybody's recent memory. It was old and from another era that seemed familiar and sad. And I never will forget as I stared up at the beauty of it and drinking champagne, Run for the Roses was playing on the radio or jukebox or something, and Dan was singing it to me. It's burned into my memory like yesterday. The records and CDs are long gone but that memory will always be there. Like everything else that happened to me in that area that took me four years to learn to navigate because the roads are so random and screwy with the entire world trying to get in to see a very tiny church and the most awesome zoo and gardens. And they all crowd onto a beautiful little river of lights and ride boats and try to forget or remember something. And they say to remember it but the truth is lost. Funny how libraries catch fire. Really. I still don't understand but I do know it could not have been an accident that this music was there with me all the time.

  • @acousticarchivefortwayne930

Joyful song of the south! So many nature sounds in Jack and Derek's playing: the birds, the water, the rushing wind, whales and surf and of course Susan's beautiful voice and tasteful playing to bring you home. Great video!

I saw Dan during this era and I couldn’t believe how amazing his voice and playing were. He sounded better than any of his own records. That’s the mark of a great performer. I heard Home Free in 1973 and he became my favorite singer songwriter musician of all time. My heart broke when he passed.💔🕊️

2 years later and I'm coming across this video... I saw Dan numerous times through the years from the 70's to a couple of months before he passed. I have been a fingerstyle guitar player a long time and part of that is due to this guys pickin style. One of the last times I saw him play he couldn't sing like he did in the past, so he was picking his ass off all night. There were 7 guitars surrounding him and a grand piano. Maybe 1000 people in a small theater. I was mesmerized by his playing and of course his writing all these great tunes. Thanks for posting...
