You're Watching the Frozen Movies Wrong.
A recent tweet by Jenny Nicholson prompted me to look at a 2020 documentary about the making of Frozen 2. This caused me to rethink the entire Frozen franchise and why it might be smarter than I initially gave it credit for.

Westworld was a good show, but it was also a flawed show. By taking a look at the reasons it failed, I think it's a little easier to appreciate it as a whole. Also, you know... spoiler alert for the entire series. (I think the title of the video implies the series will be spoiled, but... uh... just in case.) US Ghosts is like an unfunny parody of Ghosts. Fart Powers. That's all I have to say. Fart Powers. Im sure it would have been funny when I was 5. But corny jokes and forced conflict are staples of the bubblegum American sitcom. Elite American comedies, like It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia or Seinfeld have more in common with Ghosts than they do with Ghosts US. This isn't about British or American. Its about good writing vs. lazy corporate formulaic writing.

    I do not agree. There are multiple reasons I assumed this didn't work and one of them (for me) is the impatience of a US audience. I don't mean to attack all Americans, it's just my impression that on average there is very little time in US media. Taskmaster needs at least a bit of patience (understanding without immediately dismissing). I am not from the UK or an English speaking country and I think most people worldwide have more patience and do give interesting looking stuff a bit more credit - then you learn to love it. I also think complicated tasks are part of the fun and some contestants really wanting to win as well. Jo Brand was funny af but if there was no Ed Gamble nearly killing himself to win - it wouldn't work.

    I loved the TGIF years of this show. Some of the college years episodes were not half bad but not having Harvey for most of season 5 really did the show a disservice. I’m also not quite sure that this show could come back because as Melissa said it herself, she thinks it would veer into more of a cheesy family sitcom rather than what it was. I think if they did make they show about Harvey and Sabrina’s child with magical powers, they would have to have her training turned over to maybe Hilda and Zelda again but I think this could also be a way to incorporate her cousin Amanda more. We know Amanda had a little sister (who was only in one episode and was even more of a brat than Amanda) but these two with the help of Hilda Zelda and occasionally Sabrina could help the kid with their magic. Maybe even Sabrina lives in the house but Harvey does not all the time because whatever his job may be he is traveling all the time and we only see him once or twice a season but he calls all the time. The only way to be able to bring back the other characters is if Sabrina has one episode with a high school reunion and you see Libby, Jenny, Valerie, Brad, Mr. Kraft, Mrs. Quick and Mr. Pool. I’m not sure you need Roxy, Morgan, Josh, or Miles in the revival. I really dislike revivals where they shoehorn in every recurring character even for one scene just so that they don’t anger the hardcore fans. Fuller House did this (they even had the return of a one off character simply because she had been in a band with Stephanie in one episode) and it made the show no where near as great as it could have been. The problem with Sabrina is that she doesn’t have a lot of family that was featured in the show. Her father was working for the Other Realm foreign service and gone all the time. Her mother was a mortal and an archeologist who couldn’t see Sabrina for fear of turning into a ball of wax. She had no siblings and only her Aunts and cousin Amanda (on random occasions) were around. Well she did have a third aunt in the form of Vests but she was narcissistic and didn’t care for mortals so was only in one episode. I think a reboot would fall flat on its face for trying too hard to be in the same sphere as current Nickelodeon and Disney Channel shows and it would veer off into being way too corny, over reliance on a laugh track and horrible CGI magical effects. In fact the magic on the original show was ultimately reduced down to two line rhyming spells that Sabrina made up off the top of her head. She never actually used her witches license despite being told some spells couldn’t be cast without it. Also in the college years, because she couldn’t take the Magic Book with her, she got a CD rom which was essentially like the Encarta CD rom of magic. She just typed in the category of spell she wanted and there it was. Anyone could do that, no magic needed. Where was the potion making at her aunts’ house, more frequent trips to The Other Realm? Lastly, an interesting premise for a revival could be that Sabrina and her family are all living in the other realm and her child just wants to be more like a mortal and not use their magic as much and they have an identity crisis. It’s kind of like how in the straight to video sequel of The Little Mermaid, Ariel’s daughter is human and knows her mother was once a mermaid and she wants to know what that would be like and finds Ursula’s sister to help make this dream a reality. There could be one episode where Sabrina’s child is granted her wish of being a mortal in the mortal realm for awhile but magical thinks keep happening and she has to solve them the mortal way, ultimately having them appreciate being a witch that much more.

    I think there should be at least a TV movie reboot. Yes, Sabrina and Harvey's teenage daughter has magical powers. She meets a boy who has magical powers and he is the son of Libby and Derek( from the college years, a witch who dated Sabrina for a little bit.) they don't like that they're kids are together but, Sabrina and Libby find common ground and burry the hatchet. It could be where there's a problem because Libby, a mortal bare a witches child and Sabrina helps her and explains how she couldn't see her mom when she was a teen. Libby says something how didn't realize how hard she had it and she should of been nicer.

    This was the first Taskmaster I saw. For me, here are the fundamental failures: Alex was CLEARLY in charge. The “Taskmaster” was NOT in charge. He was just some dickhead with stupid hair. Was he baked the whole time? Five contestants; only two I had heard of. Ron Funches, who I haven’t seen since, and Lisa Lampenelli, an insult comic I hate. Never saw the other three before or since. I have seen UK, AU, NZ, and Denmark. On every one of those, the Taskmaster is clearly in charge; clearly the master. It couldn’t have succeeded. If they want to try again, find a real Taskmaster. There have to be hundreds who would be better than the dickhead with stupid hair.

  • @caleblim6890
    @caleblim6890 Před 27 dny

    I don’t really think we can really attribute the show’s failure to needing “a change in the setting”. I agree that Reggie should have got his own assistant, and that they could’ve played around with the production stylings, but to me what was missing was chemistry. Taskmaster works because most of the time, the five comedians are always exchanging banter between tasks and in them. By drastically quickening the pace, we lose a lot of that, and in turn, a lot of the charm that makes Taskmaster so beloved. While lateral thinking always makes for the most fun watch (see Dave Gorman and Ben Fogle), the fact that the “window dressing” as you put it, is enough to turn each task (which as you’ve said is decent) into a bore, that means that the participants just aren’t being good TV.

    Seasons 1 to 3- Excellent (Even when they changed characters for no reasons and with no explainations). Season 4- Very good (Even when the main "villain" disappeared and the ending was not that good). Season 5- Not bad, it was normal that the main character had to evolve, but they made wrong decisions, like take Harvey away (happily they found it and he came back). Season 6- Less good than the previous, many episodes made no sense, we hated Josh, and the ending was awful, come on! Everybody was gone and they didn't write good endings for them especially the aunts. Season 7- Bad, and very sad. No aunts, no magic, horrible friends, forgettable supporting characters. But a nice ending, especially to Harvey, it couldn't have been diferent. I even think that Sabrina didn't deserve him.

    The first few seasons of Sabrina The Teenage Witch worked because the creators leaned into the cheese and had fun with the show. The show flopped during the college years for multiple reasons: 1. wrote off the aunts 2. added unlikable characters 3. increased production values during the WB years actually backfired and the show became less interesting visually once the tone changed to WB-sitcom 4. Sabrina and Harvey broke up for too long 5. Redheaded-Sabrina. Sabrina Spelman is a BLONDE and that's not negotiable.
