In all fairness to George (and that clubbing of Swann was dirty) it was a retaliation to Blount's pyle driving of Branch earlier in the rivalry. At 1:05 of this video Ben Davidson stated that Buck Buchanan's throwing of George Blanda to the turf "rubbed some of the Raiders the wrong way." Davidson is the LAST player who should be saying anything about cheap-shotting a QB. The year before (1970) on the exact same turf, Davidson used the crown of his helmet to spear a defenseless Len Dawson (lying on his stomach) in the small of his back, which precipitated a bench-clearing brawl. Even some of Davidsons teammates thought his actions were out of line. His teammate Tom Keating jokingly stated: "Ben hitting the QB as he was getting into his car with his girlfriend post-game, was not a late hit to Ben.". The hit that Buchanan put on Blanda happened right in front of me at old Municipal Stadium and I thought Blanda's career might be over. Fortunately he bounced back and remained in the game. Personally, I was glad Blanda was OK, as I'm not a fan of cheap shots period, regardless of what teams are involved.

This video actually made me cry. From the age of 11 to 16, my city was the center of the sports world with the A's, Raiders, and Warriors winning championships during those 5 years. With the A's abandoning us next year it makes me sad of where we are now, but this video did bring back such great memories of my youth. Thank you to whoever produced this!

I could just as well make a video that portrays the 1990 New England Patriots’ season as a fantastic success, by showing only clips of their 16-14 victory over the Colts in Week 2. Then I could praise their exceptional offense and special teams, because they set new NFL records for most punting yards and most tackles made by the offense. In fact, the Patriots’ team chemistry was so legendary that year that the entire nation paid attention to what exactly took place in their locker room! But the true greatest victory of Patriots’ 1990 season was how it directly caused the team’s six Super Bowl wins since then. 1990 “set the stage for the dynasty to come”, of course!

This truly was an incredible rivalry. 3 straight AFC Championship games. 5 consecutive years meeting in the playoffs.
