Tone King Imperial Mk II / Walcott's Corner
This week we're going in-depth with this beast of an amp, the Tone King Imperial Mk II! It's a tad bit on the expensive side, but worth every penny. This is Wes's No. 1 amp for gigs. Sorry for not getting this one out sooner, we wanted it to be perfect and we've all been pretty busy due to school. As always, thanks for watching!

    I recently obtained one of these gems. I have been playing guitar since 63. I have been through many, many amps, and this one is something else. All of the amp sounds I remember from way back then, I can get from this amp. A true masterpiece.

    hey! thanks in advance to anyone who helps me solve this doubt. I own this marshall 20watts head unit, and a Focusrite 18i8. the Focusrite can receive LINE LEVEL and INSTRUMENT level. I have recorded some guitar tracks using the DI OUT on the Marshall head, but every time that I did, I used the instrument-level input, and my question is if I can send the DI OUT from the amp into a LINE LEVEL input on the Focusrite. The manual only says: 4. DI-OUTPUT Connect your amplifier to an external recording device or sound desk using this output socket with added loudspeaker emulation. And while I'm on that, every time that I have used the DI OUT into the focusrite, I used a regular guitar cable to connect them, should I use a speaker cable? probably not but just checking hahaha Thanks again!

    Really good amplifier for the money (£249 new). I run mine through a 4x12 and it just barks. Does all those early Marshall jumped-up-bassman tones perfectly. Doesn't even need any specific speaker to achieve them either. I've had great success with G12T-75s, G12H-65s (creambacks) and G12H with the bass cone. All nail it. This isn't a high gain amplifier. The originals weren't. It does crunch up plenty for rock and blues but its no DSL. You need to get the Master up past 2pm and the gain boosted up and 9pm or more to even get any crunch from it. I do recommend that though as the EL34 power distortion from this thing is butter! Way better than any pedal.

    Great playing and sound! Only one think I'd like to know: Imperials are said to be very trebly (mine is ... it is vom the 2000s). You run the treble with the strat in rhythm chanel quite cranked ... isn't it very ice picky and trebly? Thanks :)

    • @8sigreg
      @8sigreg Před 2 lety

      I have a Mk II, and it's not ice-picky or have too much treble. Instead, it sounds like a killer good Deluxe that'll switch to a killer Tweed to JTM45 sound on the lead channel. Humbuckers or single-coils, it sings, and everyone who plays through it loves it. I leave the controls at 5 on the rhythm channel, and the lead volume is around 10 and 5 and 5 on the tone and mid-bite. If yours doesn't sound right I'd get it into a tech because they don't sound like that normally.

    Hmmmm.....I wasn't planning on buying another amp because to me, my Laney Lionheart L5 Studio is the perfect amp for my needs, which are home use & recording, and I do love that amp, even more so since I swapped the Celestion G12H 70th Anniversary speaker in my 1x12 for a Celestion G12H Heritage Greenback 55Hz speaker which has improved the sound even more so. But to me the old 1960's Plexis, the JTM 45 and the other amp I can never remember the name of, I think it might be the JMP something or other, are THE Marshall tone. I don't care much for the JCM 800 and don't like their new DSL series, they're 1 trick ponies in my opinion. I'll never be able to get any of the old Plexis and they're a waste for home use, but this Origin series is perfect for me and are a great price. Almost all of my favourite recordings were made using a Plexi & Celestion Greenback, and for the times I feel like something different to my Laney, the Origin 20 is something I'm tempted to get. I'm not keen on the Origin 5 or whatever the power is because I don't want the piddly 8" speaker, I already have my perfect speaker and the smallest Origin doesn't come as just a head so I'd get an Origin 20 and use it stepped down to 5 or 1 watt. I think that Marshall have done a fantastic job with the Origin and it does sound quite close to the old Plexi sound and basically it's the only Marshall amp I would consider buying so I'll have to start saving up a few quid after Christmas. 👍

    Been watching a few demos of these amps for weeks now, easily one of the better demos of it, love the playing as well. Still tossing up going with the 50w or the 20w version. What made you go with the 20h in the end?

    • @wzwguitar
      @wzwguitar Před 5 lety

      James Fallon The biggest reason I chose the 20w head was because I’ve always played lower wattage fender amps. I’m used to tweed and blackface styled deluxe’s, so I wanted to stay with a headroom I was used to playing live. If you like something like a twin or bassman rather that a deluxe or Princeton go for the 50. Or you can relate it to ac 15s and 30s. It’s kind of a similar difference. For me it’s a question of headroom more than anything. I hope that helps man🤷🏼‍♂️ I’m glad you enjoyed the demo! We have another video of my pedal board if you’d like to hear it even more with other pedals.

    • @jamesfallon5420
      @jamesfallon5420 Před 5 lety

      I'm definitely more on the Fender Twin/Bassman side to be honest. I'm thinking with the power scaling I could get the 50 to break up at a lower volume if I ever needed it. I'll just go with my gut and see how I go with the 50h, think i'd feel more at home there. Thanks for the tips man. Gonna check out your other vids now.

    • @wzwguitar
      @wzwguitar Před 5 lety

      Andrew Chernysh For me headroom doesn’t always mean I’ll like it more. The sound of a Marshall when I imagine it , is always the sound of one on the edge of breakup. I prefer the way smaller amps make it much easier to get that tone. Also, I like light amps 😂

    • @wzwguitar
      @wzwguitar Před 5 lety

      Claude Disnard thank you so much! Personally I like the origin way more. It suits my style a lot more, because the origin is more like a plexi/bluesbreaker on a budget. The dsl are a lot more like the jcm 800 tones. I’ve never been a fan of that tone but it’s all about what you like to play.
