    I we get to work have you watched it with CW update of Nancy's drew some of the effects and some of the ghosts that that were on that show look pretty scary. I will much rather see stand alone episodes maybe with a tiny bit of an overarching story but nothing like mystery Incorporated. They could use guest stars to play some of the villains or some of the relatives but like in the cartoon they should be relative that the cast members are going to visit and not regulars.

    Guys I think you are missing the point. The REAL mystery is who is John Sugar...whether the Olivia story is integral to this question or not remains to be seen. It may very well be that this is all playing out in Sugar's mind and that Olivia actually IS Djen or represents her in a fantasy world he created is a possibility. My guess is that Sugar suffers from PTSD and that none of what we seen is really happening. I suspect that henis revisiting events that caused him to disconnect or disassociate with reality and, perhaps he is receiving treatment from Ruby and Vickers that is designed for him to simply observe and make peace with his demons. Sugar however is attempting to "fix" his mistakes as he did with Carl.

    the netflix version is garbage. the Chinese version was closer to the source material and a better reflection of their culture, culture wars, great leap, and revolution. Zang's Miao and his relation with family and coworkers seemed unrelatable but maybe it was more culturally accurate. netflix's screenplay was just atrocious, with some real bad acting on top, never mind the rushed pace everywhere compared to the Chinese. the real development of the revolution and red coast plotlines were superior. nevermind the epic writing and performance of Hewei Yu's Shi Qiang

  • @af8828
    @af8828 Před 2 měsíci

    It literally IS in the chinese show what are you politically infantile centrists on about LOOL Also Cixin Liu is not an anticommunist, nor is the current CPC afraid to critique the cultural revolution, in fact they conduct much more serious self-critique than any western (for that matter anyone else in the world) conducts. There were problems w the cultural revolution as there are with any mass movement wherein people who suddenly gain positions of power (especially if they are overzealous youth) are prone to power tripping. This is what is depicted in the "stuggle session" backstory of the book, and is used to develop Wenjie Ye's character; to explain why she is, to an extent, a misanthrope, and begins communicating with (spoiler). The netflix show was exciting because it had the potential to help us visualize, using western CGI, the video game and space scenes, which is where the TenCent chinese version was lacking. Unfortunately the CG was horrible in his netflix version, but unlike the Chinese version which was able to flesh out the story at a more appropriate pace and create suspense and truly highlight the magnitude of scenes like the "universe blinking", the netflix version butchered that aspect as well. Instead it felt more like something which pushed the typical neocoldwar "china bad" propaganda. The show is still alright, because the concepts Cixin has created carry so hard it's hard to completely mess up, but it does no justice to the books, which, if they were done justice, could create a franchise on the level of Dune or Star Wars (that really is the extent of the story Cixin has created). As if the Game of Thrones producers hadn't already done enough harm in the last couple seasons of the ASOIAF fantasy, they've now come and butchered one of the best sci-fi stories too. Someone lock em up LMAOO

    What wasn't so accurate was the revolutionaries screaming out 'Religion is just!' There has never been a communist regime in China that supported any form of religion. My guess is that the producers of the show (and perhaps the author himself) wanted to vilify anything that in their eyes, threatens to hold back science and progress, so they decided to just ally religion with communism in an attempt to make them look like the same thing.

      It wasn't i don't think. It was moved to the beginning for the american version because apparently americans don't 'get' non-chronology. As in it was later in the chinese version. There is also a toning down of all violence on tv, so perhaps it was less of a political decision to not show that extreme on tv, because they remove other violent things from the tv that are set the future as well. Of course, gore has never been censored on a mainstream tv evening slot in america before.

    Despite the brutality of the opening scene, and much of Ye Wenjie's experiences, the story is not anti-communist, or anti-left. It is actually an allegory for the struggle for survival of Communist China against the coming destruction by the Western Colonial Capitalist powers. The Three Body aliens are the US, England and France (hence 3 bodies). China is doomed to be colonized by those Western Capitalist Colonial powers because it is fo far behind in technology. In order to survive, it must find a way to catch up. Earth's struggle to survive against the inevitable colonization by the 3 body aliens is the same as China's struggle to survive against the inevitable colonization by the 3 Western Capitalist Colonial powers.

      Funny in light of the fact that the humiliating and unequal treaties with the Russians cost China one-third of its territory. Ignore the actual colonization and dismemberment, and rail against the (Moscow-approved and conveniently far away) "enemies", huh? Yawn. Chinese politics are so predictable and distressingly shallow. The one interesting idea in the books seems to be the "dangers of the mass collective" and the Cultural Revolution hysteria and brutality. China needs a "Truth and Reconciliation Commission" on the Cultural Revolution. Won't happen under current management though.

    My understanding is that you couldn't release something this big without the approval of the Chinese government. My immediate reaction watching the show was that there are too many Asians in this movie and this must be some kind of Chinese propaganda film. Understanding that it was written by a Chinese man with Chinese characters I now believe it is either Chinese propaganda or the writer's own personal propaganda. The idea of someone being executed after being asked about scientific facts or Einstein seems laughable to me. The revolution they went through was more about class and cultural ideology. Think about American professors today. The right doesn't hate them because they know math or believe in physics. They are despised for their opposing cultural beliefs. And you have to understand that in China due to it lagging behind the west their academics were heavily foreign influenced. How would you like a Saudi influence saying women cannot drive cars (lifted only in 2018) or perhaps a Russian influence saying you cannot promote gay relationships? Anyway, I found on Wikipedia that the Chinese were criticizing the show for dumbing things down for Americans. I will try to watch the Chinese version and I am guessing it is indeed more technical. But I thought it was ironic for them to say this because the cultural and political statements on the show are so low brow and obvious propaganda of some kind but they probably take it as fact.

    • @fademasterfade227
      @fademasterfade227 Před 2 měsíci

      ''The idea of someone being executed after being asked about scientific facts or Einstein seems laughable to me'' and yet millions of people were murdered outright or sent to work camps to be worked to death for wrong political beliefs. Scientific facts that threatened the power of the regime would get you killed. Your gut instincts here just shows how little you know about the atrocities that took place under the brutal communists in china and elsewhere. Do some research; you'll be shocked by how brutal it was. The show actually doesn't do justice to how sadistic and terrible the conditions were.

    • @spamfilter32
      @spamfilter32 Před 2 měsíci

      There are absolutely conservatives (in America) that want to murder teachers of science and math (though mostly science) if they could get away with it. The conservative movement in America is deeply *deeply* anti-science.

    • @Wustenfuchs109
      @Wustenfuchs109 Před 2 měsíci

      "Understanding that it was written by a Chinese man with Chinese characters I now believe it is either Chinese propaganda or the writer's own personal propaganda." It is propaganda because it has Chinese characters? Either way you slice it, it MUST be propaganda if it has a lot of Chinese characters because we are forbidden from having those?! But having a lot of characters from USA or UK... is not propaganda by a government or a writer. OK, got it. Hypocrisy detected and understood. "The idea of someone being executed after being asked about scientific facts or Einstein seems laughable to me." - That's because you have no idea about the period and ideology you are talking about. 30 years before that, in another totalitarian country, people were being sent to concentration camps and executed for "Jewish Physics", or Juden Physik. They were targeted EXPLICITLY for the science that they were teaching and developing. It had nothing to do with their cultural beliefs. As a matter of fact, Heisenberg himself, a nationalist German and famous scientist, was saved last minute from being shipped by SS and Gestapo, simply because his mother asked Himmler's mother (they were personal friends) to leave her son be as a personal favor. "Anyway, I found on Wikipedia that the Chinese were criticizing the show for dumbing things down for Americans." - the show dumbed down the key high-sci-fi concepts the book series tackles, but when it comes to characters, it actually went more in depth than the original. Original works focused more on concepts and philosophies rather than individual characters. In Chinese version, characters are there more for exposition and the conveying of the idea. In western media, characters and always the main thing, with the setting and the ideas being secondary and expressed through them. So in that sense, it was "dumbed down", but in reality it wasn't, it was a narrative change which made the story more human. But your notions of the show being any kind of propaganda, for any side, is frankly, ridiculous. That notion is born out of ignorance about the historical facts and the source material itself. So why you found it sensible to comment on those two exact things, I guess only you know. Chinese characters in a Chinese story are a propaganda, and killing scientists for their scientific teaching is laughable. Yeah. Very smart. Never was a scientist killed for his scientific work that contradicted established ideology. I am sorry, are you from planet Earth?

    • @stevemiller1626

      You have a lot to learn about the cultural revolution. Professors, scientists, and many thinkers were snuffed out. See the “year zero” way of thinking. Communism doesn’t only start with bloody revolutions- it only strives to find more grievances and garner more and more control. In the case of China it led to hundreds of millions killed. The communist flag should be reviled as much as the Nazi flag.

    • @timreeves8937
      @timreeves8937 Před 2 měsíci

      That is exactly what happened. They persecuted anything western including stating any science that came from the west was inherently wrong as from a capitalist country and if you adopted any "western" science, you were a counter-revolutionary. You need to educate yourself about history. Lots of bad things happened under communist Chinese rule. It isn't laughable at all because you are looking at it through a 2024 lens.

    Yes, 'cancel culture' is based on the same principles as the Marxist 'struggle session', Marxists always change the terminology, imagery, etc. because they know the public is generally against them, but the theory and the goals remain the same, total control over every aspect of life centered on the state and no opposition permitted. Are you being paid to pretend that the western left isn't based on the same principles as Chinese communism and working towards the same goals? Struggle sessions occur in universities in the west, the consequences aren't as extreme yet, but the goal of the western left is to gain the same level of control over western institutions and individual life as the Chinese government has over it's citizens.

    Keep in mind that if Season 2 of Constellation is ever made, the writers will have to add a time jump, since Season 1 was filmed in 2022 when the twin girls portraying the Alices were 11/12 years old, and S2 would optimistically be filmed in 2025, when these girls will be 15 years old. So, there won't be any subplots continuity in the next season; the "both worlds baby" will already be 3 years old, Irina should be dead by then because of her cancer, and so on.

      Or we could just pretend Alice is younger than she looks. Either way I hope they get to make more!

      @@TVObsessive The twins were born in 2010; S1 was filmed in 2022, when they were 11 or 12 years old. If S2 is made in 2025, there's nothing they can pretend; unlike adults, young children grow fast and look older very quickly.

    I’m guessing Zendaya’s massive stardom plays a part in the delay. Am thinking S3 should be the last. Not sure what more they can get out of it

    After the first season the show went to complete shit. The newer the episode the more woke garbage it is.

    No it's not. It will be an even woker regurgitation of this bleak contemporary era. Black Mirror last seasons have lost their cultural relevance right for this eccessive wokeness injection

      Dude just say what you mean. If you're using woke as a pejorative, you just mean you want to make sure it has bigoted content. The thing is, it never did. It's always been 'woke'. All of the videos have tied into a larger story overall since the beginning. They haven't changed what they are about since they started. It's almost like you're purposefully missing the point.
