your representation is literally the same as just merging at earliest convenience except you have a magical scenario where the earliest convenience is at the last second and no one has to slow down (and i want to stress this part) again magically
It's these videos that humanity needs 🎉
Anybody going to paint that raw steel ????
When traffic is moving at or near speed, it's better to merge early so that traffic continues moving. If you go to the end of the lane and try to merge, it will cause a chain reaction. A car in the open lane will have to stop to let you in, which will cause all the traffic behind them to also stop. Zipper merging only works in bumper-to-bumper traffic when traffic is already at a near stop.
Is the bottom of the bridge going to be enclosed and insulated to allow minimum heating be done to keep the bridge deck from freezing and turning to ice.
Chinczyk by to postawil szybciej.
You don't paint the steel beams? I would think painting with weather protection or powder coat or anything would prolong the life of the bridge and make it worth the effort. idk but personally as a tax payer I would rather spend up front than risk it
Not to worry. When the bridge exceeds the limits of its design and materials life, it cal be replaced more efficiently with new, stronger and easier things to work with built on a 3D "platform" of extrusion and completion on one afternoon (relative to today's methods) at one-tenth the cost of dollars and time. A protoje of Elan's is thinking about it as we speak

Awesome work!
As a person from Montana I’m always seeing MCS on the Highway.
Amazing work!!!
Great work boys
Stay safe out there. Hopefully open in early July.
July??? Don't you mean june?
@@jonhodge9270 Standard open is Friday before Memorial Day at least to the State line up top.
So much snow, its beautiful!
Can't wait to drive the Beartooth in late June! :)
Thank you for doing this video.
So the calendar is still lying to us spring is not here yet for some people
This is Beartooth Pass on a Plateau. It takes awhile to get to this point. More snowier years they might not this far on mountain pass highway. This is closed from late October to when they start in mid April. Alot of years Montana Highway Department gets done snowplowing before or by Memorial Day Holiday. Wyoming Highway Department or Yellowstone National Park snowplowing crews may not get done on Wyoming side until June. This pass is like 78 miles long too. It is on record of snowing on this mountain pass highway every month of the year. Glacier National Park with snowplowing, road repair, reinstalling those wooden guardrails, that it wasn't opened up completely until in July. They close down the park as well as late October. Here's a CZcams video filmed in June on the Wyoming side of this pass. "Driving Montana and Wyoming's Beartooth Pass" June 16, 2011 by reflyerdude
oh my - I just do not think so ----until we get those projected hurricanes - THEN - it is a whole different story!!!!!
I love the zipper merge. I can get ahead of many cars, all of them just sitting there as if they’re in no hurry at all. I zip by them and then come to a stop at the barrels, put on my signal, and force my way back into the open lane. So long, suckers. I’ve got places to be.
How does the snow depth compare to other years?
Our crews report it's less than usual.
Love seeing the Beartooth's covered in snow!
Do you know who clears the Wyoming side, is it Wyoming DOT?
The National Park Service clears the Wyoming side of the Beartooth Pass.
how do i get a ride in the cat?
Interesting plow blade. Are you just leveling off the snow drift or are you supposed to clear the road?
The ultimate goal is to clear the road, but our crew has an arsenal of equipment for different scenarios as needed on this highway. The snow cat (the piece of equipment in this video) handles the deeper/rockier drifts and gets it down to where the snowblower and other equipment can work.
Do you guys open this road to cyclist before it's open to cars? Thanks.
No, we don't open it early for cyclists. The tentative opening for all modes of transportation is the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, weather dependent.
That is an extreme environment up there. Even after they get the road open, it is very cold, windy and the top of the pass in over 10,000 feet. Wait until July, at least. The road is also narrow up on top. There is barely room for the car traffic. I have not seen any bicycles on the upper reaches of the road any time I have been over it. You need to be accustomed to high altitudes before you go up there or you can get altitude sickness and even die.
What kind of snowfall this year above or below average?
So far, our crews have reported it seems to be below average.
From Yellowstone to Red Lodge, highway 212 is one beautiful ride during the summer month. I'd love to do try it in winter.
I did not see any footage of a big rig going through that traffic circle. I would like to hear some commercial drivers comment on how they feel about traffic circles.
85 degrees here in Louisiana. What's all of this white stuff?
I hope the crew on this job at least cleared the snow off the guardrails. The snow can act as a ramp defeating the purpose of the guardrails if buried. I know that's happened with concrete barriers on interstate junctions. I'd assume the same could happen with guardrails.
Just avoid guardrails and concrete barriers and any other form of ramps and you'll be ok. ... and avoid trees, signs, utility poles, lamp posts, curbs, buildings, ditches, culverts, bridge abutments and well, just about anything that could hurt.
BE SAFE!!!!!
Do you guys ever have a drone flying up there while you are working? I'd love to see some footage from the drone point of view of you feeding the snow into the path of the blower.
We sure do! We posted some last year (check out the 2023 Beartooth Highway Clearing playlist) and I think we have some to post this year as well. Stay tuned!
any chance for an early opening? pre memorial day?
The projected opening is still the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, weather permitting.
@MontanaDOT thank you so much for that reply. ! Be safe and thanks for your service
LOL Are you hiring?
Normal snow amounts?
Our snow cat operator has mentioned that it's pretty lean as far as snow depth compared to previous years.
The Beartooth is such an awesome place. I love going up there.
Any reason you don't just use a snow blower to push it way down over the hill instead of just off to the side?
Our crews do use snow blowers when they can on the Beartooth, but they have to be careful as there is usually a lot of large rock in the drifts. Hence why you see other equipment being used!
@@MontanaDOT that makes total sense!
so what machine is attached to the blade?
Appears to be a Pisten Bulley
great videos, but to short
We love seeing our crews' video blogs from the work they do on the Beartooth, too! We'll pass along the note that you want more :)
why so short???
Nice bridge and time lapse. Might wanna get that company and crew to head over to Maryland. They could use a bridge or two.
Birds aren't real
not a lot up there this year?
I noticed. Just some drifts.
Well, definitely not if you consider last year.
Our crew has definitely noted the snow amount is lean compared to previous years.
Spring is officially here 🎉
It sure feels that way when we start posting clearing videos, doesn't it? Thanks for following along!
The ingenuity of humankind is great. If only it could be used for good always, like this project. Well done.
