Not sure if it was a 777-300ER or another 777 model. 15 hours to Dubai and 16 for the return. The route varies each day I'm sure due to weather and winds. From SFO to Dubai over northern Greenland. The return flight went over Northern Russia & Norway, then within 300 miles (est. 85 degrees north latitude) between Greenland and the North Pole. At mid-day and just after the Autumnal Equinox the sun was right on the southern horizon passing the North Pole.

So how is the flight path in October from SFO-DXB and DXB-SFO? My friend is flying Emirates on that month and I'm just wondering the sun path
So sorry. Just saw your comment many years later. SFO to DXB we departed an hour or so before Sunset. Sunset over the Western USA. Sunrise over Greenland. 2nd Sunset about an hour before landing at DXB. Have done the return DXB to SFO. Morning departure. Daylight the entire flight. Land early afternoon at SFO. 36 hour day with the time change. 777 return flight on this trip over Norway, Svalbard, to 85 degrees North Latitude. 2nd trip in 2015 on an A380 directly over the North Pole. Routing depends on winds en route.
So what if a plane is close to the north pole? i see many people being amazed of this, but I flew this plane recently a few weeks ago, both routes, people only congregated for bathrooms, but not to see the north pole, it was mostly quiet tho.
