Hey Mike great videos .. we paddle same lakes ..Does your co-pilot ever decide to take a swim? 😂
Only once. He likes the water, but for the most part is content to stay in the kayak, until we pull up onto the shore.
Looks like a nice float, do you just put in at the state park?
Yes, for this end of the lake we put in at the beach.
Thanks for the video Mike! Last year we kayaked Lippincott Road to Mad River Adventures (MRA) where we camped. Day two, we took off from MRA and took out at the same spot at the end of your video. Hoping to take it one step further this year and put in up in West Liberty and take out near the confluence with the Great Miami River. Thanks again!
Hope to see you out on the water sometime.
What was the water level that Day?
2550cfs on the Hamilton gauge
@@mikeemmons4062 thank you so much thanks for uploading all the excellent videos from your kayak trips.
@@AnnaLeahJordan thank you for being a fan of them.
There seem to be very few people there
It's hit or miss. Some weekends not many at all, others it can get pretty crowded.
Killin it dudes
Amazing how calm it can be different lake at this time year for sure
The water was like glass that day.
Nice! I have wondered about paddling there, thanks for showing us what it's like
Your PC Chutes videos have inspired a group of us to go down and give it a try. Not familiar with the area, do you have a preferred put-in and take out locations for the Chutes?
We usually put in at Barret Mill Dam on Rocky Fork, but that's blocked off now.. You can put in on You can still put in at Browning Road. If you just want to hit Paint Creek, put in at the dam spillway from Paint Creek Lake. There's no great launch point there, and you have to climb down some rocks, but it's doable.
How long does it take do this run? Planning to sneak in a trip this Friday if levels are high enough. Thank you :)
It's a fairly short paddle. About an hour and a half, maybe less if you don't play in any of the surf spots.
Nice to see a group all kitted up with safety gear while enjoying the river. Great job.
Safety is the number 1 priority.
Heading out from Heritage Park this afternoon...doing an over-nighter to the Ohio River.
Sounds like fun. Be safe!
Put in at Heritage Park? What are the best levels to run at? What do you consider too low? Thanks for sharing. Going to paddle this soon
I'd say between 1,730 and 5,00 CFS. Different parts are better at different levels, but between those levels most every section is pretty fun.
Where did you put in at ?
Carelton Davidson Stadium. You can put in right after the dam though too, for a longer run.
I also want to check this place out sooner or later. Thanks for sharing.
One of your previous videos inspired us to go there. I was a great paddle!
Nice paddle
What part of gmr is this Mike?
Where did you put in and take out at? I love your videos!
Put in at Heritage Park and take out at Dravo. One of my favorite runs.
@@mikeemmons4062 that’s what I was thinking but wasn’t real sure I still need to go on that river trail might do that this Sunday. Thank you so much for always sharing your wonderful videos.
I have a question. After you go through the shoots, where do you get out at?
The old rest area on Highway 50. It's about a quarter mile past the chutes. Be sure to park on the river side of the turn out, and don't leave any trash. It's private property but the owners are accommodating to paddlers.
@@mikeemmons4062 I think I know where you're talking about. There's a little turn off and a couple of houses right there?? Thought about parking there before and knocked on the doors and no one answered so I ended up just parking down on 50
@@roberthall843 That's it. You don't need to ask permission. Kayakers are welcome to park there, just make sure you park on the river side of the turnout and leave no mess.
@@mikeemmons4062 definitely not. I've been kayaking there for the past 3 years now and hiking there 3 years before that. Me and my group are very nature aware. Thank you so much for your response and confirmations.
Where did you put in at and take out at?
Put in at Heritage Park. Take out at Dravo Park. Both in the Colrain area.
@@mikeemmons4062 that trail is on my list for this year!
@@AnnaLeahJordan It's a fun run.
@@mikeemmons4062 it looks like a blast. I’ve seen your footage and the Cincinnati paddlers videos. Looks like it is full of movement and rapids. I’ve heard it’s a favorite river trail for a lot of local paddlers. 🤩
@@AnnaLeahJordan There's better whitewater in the region, but very little that runs as consistently as this.
Probably the last weekend😢 just got back from boarding
They've done a great job this year, considering the weather.
I enjoy your videos! 2 questions. What is the title of the first s,ong from this video? Know of any good kayaking near Yellow Springs?
I'm not sure of the name of the song, it's just from CZcams Studio's stock songs. There's some very good music in there. The Little Miami River downstream from Clifton Gorge is supposed to be a good paddle, but there's a huge log jam near SR 35 from what I hear.
I haven't gotten to try it yet cause we didn't have money for ski passes this year but I am so excited for when I can try it I'm so glad they added a new hill
It’s a great run
≋p≋r≋o≋m≋o≋s≋m 💋
We need some more snow😕
Yes we do. It's getting pretty thin.
I was there that day! Most likely the best day in the season.
Grab some crash pants and learn that toe edge! Game changer once you can comfortably ride on the toe edge as well! Just prep for some falls and awkward rides.
The older boy has his toe edge down pretty well. The younger one is learning, but still tends to ride heel edge. He'll get there though.
I never get why there’s these ugly ridges in the snow. 😂 you know like those lines? Not from the snowboard or skis. Are those ridges made for you to go faster?
No, it's from the snow cats grooming the trails.
also from snow blowers
That’s where my boyfriend and I were yesterday evening!
Snow conditions were fantastic!
Fun!
Looks so fun!
Been following some of your videos. Aesome! I am just getting into this sport Caesar's Creek, Cowan, Paint Creek, etc are the places that I'm interested in. Did you encounter much wake from bigger boats on Caesar's?
No. I would say if you went on a weekend in the summer you would, though.
Nice video guys I dont Kayak but I fish that section of the river alot .Enjoyed .
Fun video Mike! Here I am traipsing around some bushcrafting and I get recommended your vid. I live semi-nearby. Great Miami's a treacherous and deceptive river, it reminds me of a wideland version of South Fork down near Cumberland. Got some very dangerous spots. Thanks for uploading this, glad you guys were safe and had fun, looked like a beautiful day indeed. Be safe sir
it's actually pretty safe. The rapids, for the most part, are flushy, and there's no blind turns. River wide strainers aren't an issue either. There are a few spots to watch out for, but it's a good river to get newer kayakers used to current and rapids without too much danger (when with an experienced boater of course) Be sure you study a river map before putting in though. There are several dams between Dayton and Hamilton that are drowning machines if you don't know to avoid them.
Where’s the let ins for this?
Great trip! Thank you!
hello can you tell me where you put in at we are heading up to paint creek for the weekend today :)
For this section, you can put in next to the public beach.
can you tell me where you put in at ?
Next to the public beach for this section.
Lovely area. Those shady pockets look inviting.
Nice video! Where did you put in at and take out? We've been trying to find a place and everywhere has No Trespassing signs...
We put in on the Cave Road side of the dam at Barrett Mill Rd. Takeout at the old rest stop on 50. Don't park in the grass at the takeout, and stay on the river side of the street, and there's no issues. Just don't litter or be a problem for the home owners on the other side of the road and it's fine.
Yea I wanna go there
Hi and thanks, Mike Emmons for taking us to Cowan Lake. Wowow..it started bumpy paddling. Is Cowan Lake always hard to paddle? Or just the weather it was. You, two wore the proper outfits, all right. I could even hear the violent splash @2:22. Now I realize you posted: 34 degrees, winds 22mph...insane! In the end, why not! Great paddling. 😊😊
Hi and thanks, Mike Emmons for taking us on your kayaking trip on the Great Miami River. It looked like a chilly day with a gloomy sky, but how fun is that @1:10, @1:25, and so on. Did I hear your wife screaming @1:30? Do you mind me asking why this part of the river is violent like a horseback ride? Any rocks on the bottom of the river? Enjoyed your kayaking. Well done. 😊😊
This is the Great Miami River near Colerain Ohio. Several good rapids on the run, but the best is at Blue Rock Road. There are some really good wave trains in it, and the rapids change quite a bit at different levels. Also, at lower levels it gets a bit more technical with rocks to work your way through.
@@mikeemmons4062 Thank you for the info. Would you please join us in paddling this wild river when the time is right? I am excited! 😊😊
@@ms.kayak7seas Sure. Always like paddling with new friends.
Hi and thanks, Mike Emmons for taking us paddling to Rocky Fork Creek & Paint Creek. Wow, that was quite a narrow water passage @0:44. Was a boulder lying down on the right and tall rock walls on the left? "No way out!" Then your kid got it! Very talented. It seemed"No Problem." What? A rock tunnel@ 1:34? What the fun paddle again! I will have K7S check it out again. 😊😊😎😎
Thanks for watching the video. That can be a fairly dangerous run. Strainers are often a problem. That's my wife in the green kayak. She's an experienced whitewater kayaker. I don't recommend taking kids on that run. It's a fast moving, narrow creek, that is often blocked by strainers. You really have to be capable of quick maneuvers in fast current to safely run it. I see a lot of inexperienced kayakers on it, and always fear for their safety. They don't realize how quickly things can go bad on that run.
@@mikeemmons4062 I apologize that I didn't know whom I was talking about. Yes, we, should keep in our mind that we never know what the river is capable of. Would you tell your wife that I admire her swift decision-making when she sees the water and the surroundings for me? 😊
@@ms.kayak7seas You got it. and she took no offense. She's fine with being mistaken as younger than she is.
Hi and thanks, Mike Emmons for this kayaking video. Wow..what's the fun paddle! I thought it was a little rough @1:44 even through the bridge. You don't have to give your children any instruction, but they can read the river and lead their way out... Stunning! Do you mind me asking how long the Great Miami River is? I am not familiar with this area. ☺☺
This run is about 5 miles. Put in at Heritage Park, and take out at Dravo Park. A little northwest of Cincinnati.
@@mikeemmons4062 I am not familiar with this river, but it is quite a paddle and I will have K7S check it out.😊😊🙆♂🙆♂
Hi and thanks, "Mike Emmons" for sharing. Were your child with you? Oh...my...so brave. and was familiar with the river to navigate against the strong current. Nice to know they had protective gear, a helmet. Do you mind me asking how difficult to make a good angle to film with Gopro on the helmet? I have never done that, not even on the chest. Yes, it was very fun to watch. 🛶😊😊
That river is a good one for kids. The rapids are fun, but they take you where you need to go, and they're all flushy, meaning if you do flip, the current pushes you into calm water. Using a GoPro style camera mounted on a helmet is pretty easy. A little experimentation to get the angle correct, and you're good to go.
@@mikeemmons4062 thank you for telling me about the GoPro mount. I am a newbie and have a lot to learn. Your kids are courageous and so are you as a parent, letting them challenge themselves. 😲😲
Hi and thanks, Mike Emmons for taking us to Little Miami River. Wow..it's a little rough and dynamic ride @0:13? Was it right after a hard rain? The water level looked high. Although, I am not familiar with the area...No offense, like a horseback ride@1:1. We have here French Broad River and many people capsize at the same spot under the bridge BC the current leads you to "piers". It was a FUN paddle.😊😊
What state is this in
Hi and thanks, Mike Emmons for taking us on your kayaking. The Rock formations are impressive. Exploring small caves is fun. The beautiful sky, the sounds of the water, and birds chirping in the background in the secluded location pleased us. Also, the sounds from the little cascade are soothing. This place reminds me of Grason Lake in KY. If you haven't been to, it really is worth making a little trip. Do you mind me asking if this place is located in OH, correct? Is any public boat ramp around? How long was the paddling? I appreciate it.😊😊
It's near Hillsboro Ohio. This end of the lake is best accessed by the campground boat ramp. It's about a mile back to the start of the cliffs.
