3:30 if all of the offsprings survived - can you imagine the problems? THE reason that many animals birth tons of offspring is because most will die. Even in our own species, it wasn't until very recently that our birth rates became safer.

I wonder what Claire Zabel did for the over 60000$ (which is only what we know off, it may be much more) she was 'gifted' from FTX / SBF? And I also wonder if any of the minimum wage workers who put their life-savings into FTX (which was then given to people like Claire as a 'Gift') saw any of these 60000$ again? I mean, someone in a position as Claire makes some very good money already, so I'm sure returning 60k would not be an issue, eh?

The speaker in the video is Baobao Zhang, a political scientist focusing on technology policy. She is a research affiliate with the Center for the Governance of AI at the Future of Humanity Institute, Oxford, and a fellow with the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society at Harvard. In her talk, she discusses how social science research can inform AI governance. Points made by Baobao Zhang in her talk, "How social science research can inform AI governance | EAGxVirtual 2020": 1. Advances in AI, particularly machine learning, have been rapid, with machines now able to outperform humans in various tasks. Looking ahead, there is a 50% chance of AI outperforming humans in all tasks by 2061. 2. The potential risks of unaligned AI systems pose existential risks to humans. Tech companies, governments, and civil society have started to take notice and publish AI ethics principles to guide the development and deployment of the technology. 3. Social science research, including political science, international relations, law, economics, and psychology, can inform decision-making around AI governance. 4. Studying public opinion towards AI is important from a normative perspective, as AI will impact much of society. It can also help anticipate how electoral politics will impact AI governance. 5. A nationally representative survey of 2,000 Americans found that an overwhelming majority think that AI should be carefully managed. They consider all AI governance challenges to be important but have low to moderate levels of trust in the actors who are developing and managing AI. 6. The governance challenges perceived to be high in both perceived likelihood and issue importance include protecting data privacy, preventing AI-enhanced cyberattacks, preventing mass surveillance, and preventing digital manipulation. 7. There are variations in perceived issue importance between subgroups, with older Americans perceiving governance challenges to be more important, and those with CS/engineering degrees perceiving them to be less important. 8. Two works by colleagues in the EA community working on AI governance are "Toward Trustworthy AI Development" and "The Windfall Clause." 9. Open research questions in the field include: * How to build incentives for developing safe, robust, and fair AI systems and avoid a race to the bottom. * How to transition to an economic system where AI can perform many tasks currently done by humans. * How to address other geopolitical risks that make AI governance more difficult, such as great power war. 10. Social scientists can be impactful in the field of AI governance by engaging with the tech and policy worlds, writing op-eds, doing consulting, and communicating with the media. The speaker also mentions that they are currently working on a new iteration of their survey on public opinion towards AI, which they hope to launch in the US, EU, and China to get interesting cross-country comparisons.

This scenario also does not consider that the income gain of 25 per cent or even 50 per cent may not be enough to ensure adequate standard of living in urban areas or cities as opposed to rural areas as the cost of the food basket and essentials for instance will increase significantly. So, it may be a zero sum game.
