Hi Eric, I love your videos! I have a question though..., I'm trying to design a one story country home with dormers, and a wrap around porch, I cannot figure out how to do the roofs on the porch. Could you do a tutorial on this? I could send you a sample picture?

Great video. I never knew one could actually get creative in Chief, thought Chief is all about the automatic ride. I'm a Revit guy but ever since I saw Chief it was love at first site for, now I'm really thinking of divorcing Revit or maybe marry the two of em. Is it possible to import say a revit model like window into Chief and actually use it as a Chief object, or will it easier to create the window in sketchup (which I know Chief supports very well) and the import it into Chief? Please if you can is it possible to make a video about this, without the moldings. Also do you have an email I can use to send you the window type I'm hoping to create in Chief?

Eric, I am having difficulty changing the roof trusses from flat ceiling to slopped ( Shed style Roof). The 3D view seems correct but the cutaway or back clipped shows a flat ceiling instead of slopped flat trusses. I have tried in vain to find something to guide me. We are trying to set the trusses between the ICF walls

Thanks Eric, good one! tried out a variation to your method. 1. Drew a line and made it parallel to roof pitch 2 Point to point moved the line to the apex of the window 3. Drew another line from top of window side up to the parallel line, opened it's species, ticked line length. 4. Deducted that length from the measurement, (apex of window to apex of roof) Thanks again for paving the way!

Hi Eric, I just discovered your CZcams chaneel a couple of days ago. You have some great tutorials! Funny thing, i first started using Chief Architect way back, just to do plans for basement finishing and kitchen remodels. Then I got into AutoCad and Revit, and even SketchUp. Then I (re) discovered Chief Architect again and found out that there's so many more possibilities with Chief Architect then I realized.

Importing a CAD drawing into X10 via DXF... Chief changes inches to "double inches". For example, 23'2" 1/4" is displayed, but should be 23' 2 1/4". Notice, first of all, there isn't a space between the 23 feet and inches, and there are double inch marks... ( " ) after the number 2, as well as after the 1/4. Is there something that can be changed in the setup, or a macro that can be created, or a good way to fix this?

Way to much work as good as it is. If there is a big enough demand for this style of splayed window frames, CA should be able to give us the option of doing this within the Window DBX under window frame, Option button>Int or Ext: Skewed: On/off, Degrees from vertical and horizontal center planes> Top: Y/N, Bottom: Y/N, L-Side: Y/N, R-Side: Y/N. Thickness would default to window frame thickness. Then Material in Materials. Casing would/should work as it does now. For now, your way I suppose is as good as it gets. I played with this for a while prior to seeing your video and deemed it a waste of time, (no disrespect to you), I settled for just a filled solid color background 2D block for use in plan view. Then I did a detail in 3D Sketch Up Pro model imported to CA just showing a generic representation in 3D of the finished product referenced from plan view. Till CA catches up with all requests, work-around's is all we have. Keep the videos coming.

You can just drag the cabinets along the flat wall to intersect with the angled cabinets, as of X15. Not sure about previous versions.

This has been soooo helpful Eric. Soo much better learning how to do what you did. I would not have been able to reproduce that without it. Lots of great pointers from an experienced pro too! Also: 1) You were right on the car turning radius --> adjusted that. 2) Added a bump out on the side of the kitchen area. 3) 12ft is what the client requested, on the gulf coast, so high ceilings are the norm. Will see what happens when we get the cost to build...🤷 4) The moldings on porch weren't there for any particular reason hah 🤦! 5) I did make moldings around the porch to cover the end of that floor vs foundation area. Several videos on that (if you got any tips...). 6) Great idea on the foyer ceiling being dropped down, makes it more intimate when you walk in. 7) Great idea on bringing that porch over to the other wall, soo much better of a design. Thanks for your assistance and coaching. This has been a great starting out experience with this software and community!☺ Looking forward to learning more!!
