I have found that the dry time is different on different papers. I have a lower quality mixed media sketchbook that takes forever to dry, especially if I use a lot of water. This canvas paper isn’t very absorbent, so the water takes longer to dry. I think the humidity in your climate plays a role also. I do usually take a break to let it dry naturally, but for some people that might break their creative rhythm. I guess it just depends on how you enjoy creating. I’m with you though. If I have the time, I usually let it dry on its own. It gives me time to think about what I want to do next. Thanks for watching! 😊👍

I am watching it at my lunch break 🤭 but it seems we are similar. for me it works super relaxed to let things go (I do plan beforehand with a sketch and a background reference, but choose colours on the go and might add spontaneous things) and while going I see and adjust and even correct afterwards by lifting or add white gouache to colours that happened too bright. sit back, cuddle my dog, make me some tea, or grab a snack, observe and continue. during this I never needed a hairdryer. like this hours pass and it's suddenly 8 pm and realise oops need to eat dinner and walk my dog and my dog needs dinner 🤭 sometimes my dog hints me and gets me out of that creative bubble. I am a self-taught hobby artist. I think I am at intermediate level or close to it. don't mind the 1 remaining video on my channel though, those are paper test quick illustrations in case anyone is having a looksy 🤭 but that's also due missed opportunities and support as a kid. I wanted to go to a high school that's focused on creativity and actually have serious art classes and other creative classes next to the mandatory ones, but my parents didn't let me, they said it's too far away (45 minutes with bicycle/ around 30 minutes bus), the high school I went to was 20 minutes bicycle. that's a long time ago. few years in continuing creating hit and misses still happen, but I laugh at my misses and take it as it's just not my day to be creative tomorrow another day. I always felt the affinity to draw and paint but never continued throughout my youth and young adult years until a few years ago, when I was like, it's a waste to not explore full potential in this. by the way, I like those spotted crumbled leftovers in your painting from those water soluble sticks. It gives a granulation effect. and oops I went into a storytelling 🤭 solly 🙃 thanks for replying 😊 sometimes it's fun to talk to someone who might understand the artist things. eventhough every artist can have their own ways.

No worries! I love the feedback and story time! I’m glad you didn’t give up on art making. I’ve always been crafty, but didn’t realize how much I loved painting until a few years ago. Sounds like a really good kit! I hope you have a great time in Croatia! If you ever get the chance to try Neocolor IIs, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! They are very layer friendly. As long as you let the layers dry in between. They’re easy to thin down or make thick and opaque. I’m completely obsessed with them! I’ve also gotten a lot better at using a water brush pen instead of a cup of water with a brush. At first the water brush was weird, but once I figured out how to get the right amount of water when I needed it, it’s so much easier and portable. I totally get that. It can be really hard to let go. That’s why the 2 minutes is so helpful for me personally. It forces my internal perfectionist to stop and move on. I wonder if the stressful feeling would go away if you tried to sketch the same picture multiple times in a row. Then you could see a progression and feel a want to start the next sketch, instead of stressing over the one outcome. Just a random idea. 😅 It might be worth a try. Just know that you’re doing a good job either way! ❤️😊👍

@colleend80 I wonder if the perfectionist voice might stop with a less formed warmup. Also, I find there’s a gift in noticing this kind of frustration in an activity like this. When I work through the frustration on the page I’m able to transfer it to my life.
