Singing in solidarity with the earth and our Indigenous community, sharing song in environmental protest at Wallum, protecting sacred ground on Bundjalung Country, Brunswick Heads, Byron Bay Shire, Australia.
A fire sparked deep in my belly the other day as the red alert was sent out to local community to stand and protect country. I felt electric being there in solidarity with community, and I did the only thing I know best to do, to sing through the prayers and inspire the reconnection to the earth.
Big shout out to those who have put themselves on the line, who have locked themselves to machinery, have been protesting with a vigil as they camp for days and night in the trees, to protect and stop machinery, to halt the greedy developers - who are being negligent to this very special and rare ecosystem, home to some of the last richest biodiversity in the area. It is madness that they are building on flood plains! What’s more disregarding all the incredible rare and endangered species including the glossy black cockatoos, koalas… a ridiculous plan to cut down and bulldoze the incredible array of hundreds of year old gums and rare wild flowers and foliage in a highly mineral rich haven that is also ceremonial grounds for our First Nations.
I am truly proud to be a part of this community. Every little contribution, petition signed, song sung, help on the ground makes a difference - Power to the people!
