Origami Sakura Flower by Dasa Severova
Learn how to fold my new model - a simple Sakura flower, folded from a pentagon. I recommend starting with around 15 cm big square and using paper a bit thicker than kami, something like printing paper works well. You can also try with even thicker paper and wet shape it in the end... Happy folding!

This is the video on how to fold the flower on the crossroads, the model I created around a month ago. As there were several demands, I decided to make a video. Tutorial showing how to fold modular lotus, my new model which I discovered some days ago. You can use 6-8 units, the ideal size of the squares is around 7.5 cm (3 inches). Don't use too thick paper. Copy paper, kraft paper, and kami should work well. Soft paper is more difficult to work with, but the result will have a more organic look. Let me know if you manage to finish the model! :) Happy ...

      Hi Laura, I would recommend something a bit stronger than kami, but not too much thicker. Kami works, but it can rip in the end because there is quite a lot of manipulations. I saw one folded from tant, that worked as well. I imagine, kraft paper will do too, even printing paper.

    • @papeRain
      @papeRain Před 5 lety

      I would disagree with you in that ;) the thickness of these papers differs quite a lot, but they are definitely on the thinner side of the scale. Some of them are really thin. For sure it depends also on what you consider being thin. There is only one really thick paper and that is the one made from cotton. But to tell only from the sound how thick they are isn't that easy. Many of them are also quite transparent... :)

    • @HomieCraftie
      @HomieCraftie Před 5 lety

      papeRain thank you for clarifying this. And yes it is difficult to tell from the paper touching sounds whether it is thick/thin. You should give examples of how each type of paper fit what types of origami models that would be great 😀

    • @papeRain
      @papeRain Před 5 lety

      That's a pretty good idea! I will try to do so and also as I gave some sheets to some of other origami designers, when they fold something, I can show that as well! Paper is such an interesting medium! It can changes completely how the model feels... :)

    • @HomieCraftie
      @HomieCraftie Před 5 lety

  • @annaalekseeva6594
    @annaalekseeva6594 Před 5 lety

    Thank you, Dasa! This is adorable design! I've folded already three of them :) I have no problem with the last unit. But I don't try to open the unit with "pocket" completely and move tab in direction from the center of the flower to the edges. Instead, I open it partially, only move away from each other inner and outer petals, the pocket is in this case like a slot, and I put a tab in the slot, moving it from inside the flower to outside. It is much easier, I think. (I'm not sure I've explained it understandable, it's hard without photos)

    • @papeRain
      @papeRain Před 5 lety

      Hi Anna, thank your for your comment! I think I got how you do it. And I can only agree. Still I was struggling to show it somehow here. And also when you use soft paper, the sliding doesn't work as the tension of the papers is too big and softness of it makes it impossible. But especially sith some paper types it works very well. I am happy that you like the model and that you were playing with it! :)
