He mentioned a guitarist named dave raymond?? Is that how you spell his name? I can't find anything on him

A great contributer to music from the best pedigree. I met him at the Cambridge Folk Festival, when he checked up on Rev Gary. I was his Lead Boy for his UK tour. Good job Stefan.
Thanks Stefan You have helped me much learning finger picking blues ✌️❤
That was fabulous!
I met Stefan at a pub in Sheffield called The Highcliffe, it was a great pub with live acts every week. I had bought his album, How to play ragtime guitar, complete with tablature booklet. I struggled with every tune. I spoke to Stefan at the bar before he played his set and he changed his set to include a couple of tunes that i wanted to learn. He gave me an up close personal lesson in front of the audience. This was the act of a kind, generous man who made a living doing what he loved and he passed his love for the guitar and fingerstyle playing on to a generation. Such a warm, giving man who did a huge amount to keep this style of playing alive.
love love love this man g e smith
Been a big G.E Smith fan since the early 80's...he's such a cool guy. Played with all the greats....great to see him in this format...him and a few guitars 🎸 👏
It's funny, of that first generation of white country blues revivalist pickers, you find guys like John Fahey and Alan Wilson, who were totally obsessive neurotic autistic personalities....then there's Stefan, who just comes across as the most normal, well adjusted guy you'd ever wanna meet.
GE Smith is a living legend and a icon.
Nice, I keep hearin richland woman blues today hehe, so glad I learned this tune, from the john Miller book that pointed me the right direction an then got it my own way from listenin to the library of congress recording, only part I gotta get a little better is " hurry down sweet daddy " or " home " I stumble a bit on the melody but everything else is good.
What an amazing player !!
This guy is an absolute reference for me, since a friend of mine gave me, in 1971, a copy of one of his first records he didn't like : imagine that, it was "Yazoo Basin Boogie"! Who can dislike this one ? Since that day, I try to play "Mississippi Blues", carrying a full conversation, reading newspaper and turning the pages. Still working...
G.E. a really nice guy, a great musician 👏 love watching and listening to him...being from Ireland only came across him recently, and he keeps popping up now, to my delight....easily known Bob Mark is definitely 👏there brilliant 👏
George Smith is the master, great player.
This small guitar was the bead and butter of the Martin company in the 19th century. Great to hear them played by an expert!
Absolutely the best repro playing of Mississippi Blues. Where would we be without Stefan? RJ was never any good with the 4th chord was he?
What a great person. He was my mentor so many years ago. Everything I learned on guitar is thanks to him. Thanks dear Stefan!!
This is a great video! Every time I encounter Stefan I love him more!
Muffled, no nails, short fingers, so unique, so good.
More beind the guitar, please ...
Beautiful beautiful playing!
This guy is a fool!
I saw G. E. Smith with the Hall and Oates in Athens, Ohio on the "Big Bam Boom" Tour at their peak, great show!
everyone in the audience has a mustache
This is one of my favorite pickers G.E. Smith
Stefan introduced me to the world of acoustic guitar music when I discovered a Kicking Mule LP at the local library in the 80's. Met him a few times. Nice guy
At the 7:50 mark, is he playing a particular Bronzy tune or just emulating his overall style? If it is a particular song I want to hear the original,
Sounds a lot like ‘Ridin On Down’ which is a GREAT talking blues by Big Bill.
When Lawrence says he had big shoes to fill might he be talking about Jimmy McCulloch?
Amazing guitarest! Loved him since Wings 🎸
Wonderful interview. Nice playing, John!
Stephan IS a treasure. What a good guy and A DAMN GREAT PLAYER !!!
Saved so many folk known tunes from being lost. Luv and Peace.
Great show 🎶❤🇺🇸
Luv GE 🎶❤🇺🇸
There's something mischievous about that "Cobalt Blue".
Another genius in the fretboard. Amazing Laurence!!!!
I lived in New Haven in the late 70's...The Arcadia Ballroom was up the street from where I lived. Saw G.E. and the Scratch Band there a couple times...We were all a lot younger then... Cover charges were about 2 bucks then. Saw Michael Bolton (Boloton then) up the street at the Oxford Ale House too for a couple bucks too.
Michael Bolton? Did you lose a bet or were you being punished? I hope she was worth it! lol
More of this, please
My got the ugliness level is immense. G.E is so ugly. I can't even watch. And what he plays is at best at beginner level.
Hernan Palomeque this is why we don’t give a fuck about generation x
GE is a handsome gentleman who seems openly warm and engaging. God Bless him and his family. He has a wonderful career full of successes to warm his later years.
cheekbones to die for!
Sir you are filled with shit.
@@agadorspartacus5710 I totally agree with you. George is a very nice guy, i don't give a crap about his looks either.
Highly professional.
Flawless.
I remember being captivated by some of his music when he was in the UK in the late 60's. He played at Les Cousin's in Soho and, I think, Ken Colyer's, Studio 51 club, in Gt. Newport Street, where I regularly went to see Bert Jansch and John Renbourn and many other greats.......Was it really half a century ago?
I remember the name, as well. I was in Bristol from about 1965 to about 1975, and it is possible that I saw him there. Or, maybe it was at Aberystwyth where I was from 1968 to 1971. Excellent player...
Great show
What an absolute master. Good he has kept the art and techniques alive.
Love this guy
Was it John Byers who encouraged Stefan to take up a guitar?
This looks like a great channel! Hopefully there are a bunch more interviews to look at.
Toca poca madre.Yo tambien aprendi unas rolas que por curiosidad encontre en un video que agarre de una libreria publica. Y asi fue como conoci el llamado Country Blues.
... Awesome !!
What is this?
His playing is very reminiscent of Preston Reed.
Juber is awesome, though his style is nothing like Preston's. Aside from a few slaps and waps on the guitar. They did do a duo album back in the 90s. Groovemasters. Really cool recording.
Not so much I think, but certainly at the same level musicaly!!...did you have a listen to "Groovemasters vol 1?...czcams.com/video/nhTmcuNydic/video.html
