    The Australian Broadcasting Corporation recently published a TV series, "First Weapons." It filmed a few Aborigines making traditional Aboriginal weapons. In my mind, the process isn't very different from sculpture. They DID NOT use traditional aboriginal tools, Axes and angle grinders are favourites.

    That's impressive. I'm curious, do you have any issues with only finishing one side of the timber? It's a general rule in woodwork to do both side to prevent uneven moisture absorption and resulting warping.

    I love your voice overs, Kris. They allow me to fully understand your thinking process and progression through the project. As a woodworking hobbyist, I take your voice over as a valuable insight into the mind of a true craftsperson. I enjoy watching you make anything, however you make it! And seeings how this project differed slightly from your usual builds, the difference in video formatting makes sense here. Love from Wisconsin!

    I loved the sound of your woodworking mixed with the lovely Porto city sounds. Even the seagul added some extra flare. But also always enjoy when you do VO to explain. Maybe a vid like this every once in a while is a great way to go. Cheers from one of the lucky person who got one of your pieces at home ❤️

    if the wood bows, just wipe the concave side with a wet cloth and let it sit for an hour. try not to let wood lie flat, set it on its edge when it's not being used so air can attack both sides (until finish is applied). this is most useful when you're making tall cabinet door frames.

    It was really nice to watch your hands learn how to use the tools! I could see after you sharpened that it was cutting better. That might have been the wood (different kind of wood) or the sharpening, or the skill learned in the first section. My favorite technique was the "melon baller" cut where you cut out a circular cone of material! 😃

    • @GetHandsDirty
      @GetHandsDirty Před 9 dny

      Ahaha, funny way to put it-melon baller! I sharpened it several times throughout the carving (it took me many hours), so it was still pretty sharp during the first section. I see what you mean, but it was really the wood that was a lot easier to cut. Hard maple (the lighter-tone wood) is a lot harder with denser grain than mahogany.
