What soil do you think is best for them??
Topsoil from the garden with a little sand if you find soil too clumpy. I buy play sand from homedepot to loosen up the clay I have locally. Never from a pet shop

That poor thing it’s head isn’t even normal what awful owners they definitely didn’t do any research I’m glad you are it’s owner now and I have a question what size Enclosure do you have?
6x3 is what I call a small space for a tortoise, wish I went 8x4 but I mostly keep outdoors so this is just for winter
@@Naturaltortoisekeepers I just got a Russian tortoise 2 weeks ago and right now I don’t have the budget for a big enclosure so as I go on I buy more stuff and I’m going to be building a bigger enclosure either around 6x4 or 4x2

You have Sulcata as the hardest, why is that?
Size, space. Offering heat and uvb when weather isn’t warm. There’s a reason theirs hundreds in rescues

Do you brumate them outside in Canada? The temps up there I assume is colder for longer.
Not outside they would freeze It gets down to minus 50c here in winter I brumate in my heated garage at about 5c inside a Rubbermaid box to control temps

They should be on their own ,they are solitary animals. The only weak individual is you
Yeah becarefull with humidity it caused my sulcata respiritory infection all you need to do is dampen the substrate but not soaking ❤

Not really they have tough enough tongues to deal with spikes and spines I’m also pushing upwards Filing is never ideal, it’s also unnecessary With a proper set up and diet i never have to file until it’s a rehome situation

Skip growing. It’s work. Start foraging! Nature provides the soil, sun, and far more space than any pot offers

I’m so excited I discovered two more safe weeds in my back yard. Violet and geranium. I have been harvesting clover and dandelion for 4 years. Thank you for the reminder of TT

Did you fed the carrot tops? mine like them. I only got them once but they tore them up.
If home grown then they can be fed sparingly as part of a large diet If storebought I would avoid, their grown in fertilizers for human consumption. Doing more harm than good to a tortoises slow digestive tract
I used a simpler incubator from a Tractor suppl. usually used for chickens but can be used for torties. successfully hatched four clutches so far.

What weed was that? mine love clover and dandelion. I planted a couple of tortoise mix seed packets this year in their outside enclosure.
Henbit was one Instead of mixes I always suggest planting specifically that way you know what your tortoise is eating
