    I like your video. It summarizes and summarizes the details that I didn't expect, especially the last point. Although the company will not provide additional rewards, I will tag any resources, especially cloud resources. I don't like to mix them, so I try to use them as much as possible. My users can see for themselves the cost analysis and permission control. Thank you

    One thing; VMware has changed hands a few times and the underlying fact seems to be that the previous, perpetual license based model just didn't make enough money. It is usual for a revised strategy to include - focus on core products - some ways to charge more ==> more profits per unit I can't say I have been impressed with the way new owners fiddled with the website - however I am sure they would have some sort of hand holding process for "bigger" more "valuable" customers 🤨🤨

    granted, I hate microsurf (former employee with no ill will toward the behemoth) as much as the next guy, but I'll never understand the community loathing over hyper-v. I used to teach employees and customers of the largest computer (and vmware owner) manufacturer in the world, and I still see the benefits to the platform to this day.....

    Why not subscriptions? We do it with email, CRM etc? The answer is because those are now cloud services and we are renting their infrastructure. This doesn't make sense with VMWare where we are footing the bill for the infrastructure, then paying for a subscription on something that has always been perpetual, and who's performance is determined by our expenses on hardware. It just feels bad. The cloud feels bad. We're setting ourselves up to have less jobs in the future, less competition in the market, and less opportunities for growth and disruption. America has sold off its manufacturing. We outsource tech support. We literally have 2 companies that control all food supply in the country. The last strong sector of the economy we're now giving to a few small companies.

    Still relevant! This video was sent to me by a Gartner analyst just yesterday. I also worked nearly a decade for both Gartner and Forrester and never saw any evidence whatsoever of a pay-to-play environment in either firm. I think some tech execs get confused about industry analysts as a whole, because there are some "analysts" that you CAN hire to sponsor specific research or write content. They operate under completely different business model and offer different deliverables, but still legitimately use the term "analyst." I call them 'content analysts' to distinguish - both are important to an AR program. Thank you for this; loved the fun way you presented it, Elias.

    Hey there. I am leading the global cloud migration capability for a massive firm on our journey to exit 100+ datacenters. Massive investment, but if DC TCO is the starting point, and reducing the “bubble cost” of migration is a main priority (understanding that the value of cloud only starts when you get there and not during migration) the cloud is transformational to the business. Rehost quickly now (which btw can mostly be automated now), and let the opex savings fund your refactors later. Another observation is once cloud migrations start, DCs are losing tenants so the cost per node in the DC becomes higher with each completed migration. This is overlooked a lot of times. Bubble cost can go through the roof. Regarding AI, what I am seeing in the global marketplace are companies who are putting the cart before the horse trying to implement AI without having the cloud and data stack to get the benefit from it. If you want to transform with AI, get cloud right first.

    Definitely appreciate the enterprise focus! My only disagreement is the death of the data center. I agree, for most organizations it makes sense to move workloads and applications to the cloud, but for those that are running computationally intense jobs (like AI training) and storing PBs of data, the cloud isn't cost effective. I do believe hybrid architecture is the way we need to focus and using a private cloud setup from RedHat or Microsoft is probably the way to go even though it requires a very different skill set than most admins have today.

    This sounds like it’s high end Consumer Reports. If the integrity of the analysis is there, there’s no other way to evaluate the art/science mix of objective vs. subjective. Yes…DeWalt and Ryobi want favorable reviews of their power tools… but trying to point out their strengths to Consumer Reports isn’t bribery

    I have always loved VMware. They have an outstanding product. But I've seen a lot of companies do these kinds of things or make other bad decisions and we may see VMware go the way of Novell, Ashton Tate, Lotus 123. They were all at the top of the game at one point. Some of you may not have even heard of one or more of those. That's because somebody had a bright idea that wasn't so bright. And I think a lot of people are not afraid of the subscription model what they don't wanna do is pay five or 10 times more for the same product that they're using right now. It's obvious bro could care less about businesses. And if you're talking small businesses, I don't think Nutanix would be the answer. I hate to say it, but I am leaning towards Microsoft for SMB.

  • @sirgongalong
    @sirgongalong Před 3 měsíci

    Agree with almost everything you’ve said, apart from vCloud AIR. I think they made the right choice to try and focus on their core strengths (virtualisation in the Enterprise) rather than trying to fight a losing battle against the tech giants Google, Amazon and Microsoft for a piece of the Public Cloud pie, with a ragtag band of data centre/colo providers/msp’s. Even though it didn’t save them from the trajectory they’re currently on. It is perhaps ironic that VMware have for the longest time been saying that to go to the cloud, you should re-architect your applications using Cloud Native design patterns and principles. They were right to say this and it still holds true today. Ironic because it was clear even back in the early days of the cloud, that in doing that, the best way to host those cloud native apps is in the cloud. Their error was to believe that enough folks would do that on-premise or at least hybrid, using vSphere as the foundation and they would be able to hold on and steadily grow market share. My guess is that in 15-20 years (perhaps sooner, who knows) from now, VMware will be a thing of the past.
