If you don’t know about them already, there is a great female-fronted band from the late 90s called Everyone Asked About You that combines elements of twee pop and Midwest emo!
Which song is that one starting at 0:59 when you're putting the tape in the VCR?
My favorite label! I had at one point every cd release they made. Converted to vinyl a year and a half ago, so am recollecting every release on vinyl now. Check out Valet's Naked Acid... soooo good.
I love it you included Ambitious Lovers!
I love Stella.
She should cover The Flamin' Groovies or Frank Zappa. They both had indie labels. The Flamin' Groovies released an Independent EP.
I cannot stand the Beatles.
shes perfect
waltz no1 will always be my no1
I am more of an Unrest guy.
Christian Brothers
Great choices !. There's one band no one's mentioned in the comments that i'm surprised hasn't been said. The absolutely amazing Bloodthirsty Butchers.
I did like AC/DC. I was seeing them live in the mid 70's and they were killing it in the live music scene, but so were Radio Birdman and The Saints. Don't get me started.. I won't stop! Another great Australian band that rarely get credit are Divinyls. ''I Touch Myself'' might have been their only international hit, but I think that song eclipsed their past as a great rock 'n' roll band that came from the same live scene as AC/DC. Chrissy Amphlette was a genuine animal on stage and very scary if she got angry at the audience. Their first album ''Desperate'' is brilliant and is as good as anything brought out by The Angels or Midnight Oil.
I have to admit to being dubious about watching your video, but you've impressed me with your knowledge and execution. I'd say you know more about particular areas of Australian music than the average Australian and I commend you for that. The prevalence of hard rock in 70's and 80's Australian music is attributed to the pubs and the pub rock culture in Australia. Australian bands like Billy Thorpe & The Aztecs, Lobby Loydd & The Coloured Balls, AC/DC, Cold Chisel, The Angels, Midnight Oil, Rose Tattoo, Hunters And Collectors, Choirboys, etc, etc.. played with an edge and had grit in their music... INXS had an edge because of the pub environment they came from... I saw almost all the bands that you've got in your list. I was a regular gig rat, pub girl and concert goer in the 70's and 80's... I saw them all, from Midnight OIl to The Birthday Party, to The Saints and Laughing Clowns... I was addicted to the live scene in Australia because it was cathartic.. I would be buzzing for days after seeing Midnight Oil live at the Royal Antler Hotel in the late 70's. I commend you for making this video, but Australian music is a deep rabbit hole and there are plenty of others you've leftout.. Triffids, The Birthday Party, Billy Thorpe & The Aztecs, Rose Tattoo, Hoodoo Gurus... even the gay-bondage band of the 70's, Jimmy And The Boys, should be investigated, seeing as the singer Ignatius Jones recently passed away.
How come you are so well prepared?
Nice 👍 my favorite genre
I've heard Galaxy 500 called psychedelic songwriting.
I guess this is the music I make… by popular opinion.
Wonderful history, especially the details you gave surrounding the war. Very nice channel.
thanks so much!
Another brilliantly insightful and informative video. Great analysis Great sign posting What a hugely useful service to educate and share amazing music/art. Well done!
thanks for your kind words! My pleasure :)
Brilliant video! The late 80’s and early 90’s were good times to a teenager from north west England. I loved this music
My favorite song is Christian brothers
Loved New Wave, college radio in the 80's so many great bands, loved the psychedelic furs, Elvis Costello, love and rockets, missing persons, Julian cope, and soo many more, great memories
This was great! I still love the music of the '80s (particularly, the early to mid-'80s)! Everything seemed so new and fresh and vibrant.
thanks :)
RIP Steve Albini. You should do a video about his effect on the alternative scene over the last 30 years.
I love Bauhaus😂
Please listen to dip
That is an awesome band actually. Listen to Cherry Coloured funk. 🍒
This is 👌 great thanks for posting!
My pleasure!
😊😎🆒🆒😂❤
It's actually unreal the amount of magic that came from that band... How did they do it!
I am very positively impressed, this video gives a very good overview, and it is clear that there is not enough time to cover everything that might be worth mentioning. One small detail: Cosmic Jokers were not really a band, but the result of several jam sessions of various Krautrock band members. You asked for listening suggestions: Well, you did not mention at all the bands that were close to Folk-Rock. --> Listen to Emtidi's 2nd album "Saat" (1972), their 1st album was crap, but this one is a fantastic blend of Mellotron electronics with folk-rock. (czcams.com/video/ERKEv_e5x6E/video.html). --> Listen to "Hölderlins Traum" (1972, czcams.com/video/iGn6nLaTfqU/video.html). --> Listen to bands inspired by the music of the middle ages, Parzival and Ougenweide (e.g. czcams.com/video/rk6NI1wG01E/video.html). --> Listen to the weird folk on Kalacakra's "Crawling to Lhasa" (czcams.com/video/yA5dBjhuLFw/video.html) --> Listen to the amazing organ on Birthcontrol's best known song "Gamma Ray" (czcams.com/video/e5-yeQ3r5Q0/video.html). And there were Eloy, a band that experienced much bullying in the 1970ies because the Hippies thought that their progressive rock was not political enough, too sweet melodies, too close to "pop music", almost "Kitsch", etc. Their creative peak were the albums "Power And The Passion", "Ocean", "Silent Cries And Mighty Echoes". Somehow also Brainticket count as Kraut, their 1st album "Cottonwoodhill" is probably the most psychedelic and disturbing music you can find (czcams.com/video/-clKFoZOBYs/video.html).
thanks so much for your comment and recommendations! :3 Appreciated!!
If I may say, you are so adorable! and you some incredible knowledge..
You are so kind!!!
@@StellasEncounter You are welcome♥
I've tried to like Mogwai, even to the extent of buying "Young Team" and "CODY"! And, it has to be said that Stuart Braithwaite writes a good autobiography! However, I keep coming back to the fanciful notion that "CODY" was originally entitled "CAFG" in honour of the chord sequence that seems to underly a large chunk of their songs 😉
Well said!
Nice - some good ideas of records for me to listen to
Go for it!
I love The Sound
Thanks from NZ, much love!
After Murder Park - the Auteurs (1996) was a lost classic
No name no 1
According to whom!???
hi stella very good video but i think birth control ,eloy and jane are bands to notice.
Excellent video with really informative content. Thank you Stella!
You're so welcome!
easy way out
I actually saw Lush perform in Dallas in 1996. It was an amazing show. FWIH, lead singer Miki released a memoir not too long ago.
A very nice video. For further information about post punk, I recommend the book Post Punk Diary by George Gilmarc.
WEST CALDWELL! WEST CALDWELL!!!
Many would roast her, and in the most admirable fashion. I suppose there's more than a little distinction between spit-roasting someone and roasting them on a spit
I met pavement in 1953 in Vietnam. It was at this adorable banh mi sandwich spot in hanoi.
hahaaha, excellent joke!!!
After Punk pointed out something was wrong, New Wave pointed out what was wrong.
wow, you have absolutely fantastic taste. these bands are all brilliant. great vid
Thank you kindly!
