Traveling with Troy and Rhoda
United States
Registrace 13. 09. 2022
On this CZcams channel, we plan to share our full time RV journey for friends and family to keep track of where we go and learn about this life. It was born out of people asking how to keep up with us once we hit the road, and this plus a companion Instragram account, was how we decided to share. We have several years of preparing for this under our belt and now we are doing it, so we'll also share details about life in an RV in addition to where we are and what we're doing. We hope you enjoy.
Animals and Trails and Flowers in South Dakota (s5e10)
We just wanted to share some pics and video we have from our outings to see wildlife, some hiking we did, and more flowers that Rhoda LOVES to capture. Pull over here! I saw a new flower! She is amazing at spotting them. I'm pretty decent at stopping in time for her to go snap the pics. :)

Quick COST Update (s5e9)
zhlédnutí 22Před 21 hodinou
In this video we share the cost of our 4 month trip to South Dakota and Montana. This is only fuel and campground costs and we explain why that's all we include.
Jewel Cave (s5e8)
zhlédnutí 80Před 14 dny
We did a tour of Jewel Cave and although pics and videos don't seem to do it justice, it was fun for us. A cool 49 degrees year round made for a great place for us to be on a warm afternoon.
Devils Tower (s5e7)
zhlédnutí 123Před 14 dny
I assume this location became most famous after the 1977 movie Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind. It was 1 hour 45 min from Rapid City to get there. Arrive early! No later than 10am, but earlier is better. We had no lines arriving between 9 and 10 but as we left the line was HUGE, and stopped. It is an interesting site to see and worth the time spent. A nice hike around it, seeing the various ty...
Badlands and Wall Drug (s5e6)
zhlédnutí 67Před měsícem
We really didn't get good pics at Wall Drug. I was really stunned by how much there is going on at Wall Drug. For example a restaurant that seats 500! Their history is a great story of persistence and resilience. And the Badlands! SO SO BEAUTIFUL! If you've been, hopefully this is a fun reminder of it. If you haven't, this is a small sampler of the area.
Wind Cave National Park (s5e5)
zhlédnutí 49Před měsícem
We had multiple things on the agenda for today but some of them we had to circle back to another day. The hike to the lookout tower a few miles from Wind Cave, was the highlight of our day.
Trailer Ramp Project (s5e4)
zhlédnutí 28Před měsícem
We had a board fall from the back ramp of the trailer while we drove. It BARELY just brushed the car (no damage miraculously). I'm not a big time handy man, so this is an attempt. Perhaps an opportunity to learn.
Spearfish Canyon and Roughlock Falls (s5e3)
zhlédnutí 40Před měsícem
We drove through Spearfish Canyon, hiked some trails, saw some water falls, made it to Roughlock Falls and saw the Bridal Veil Falls. We barely missed seeing a large mountain goat while at Bridal Veil.
Mount Rushmore, Custer, Sylvan Lake, Iron Mountain (s5e2)
zhlédnutí 63Před měsícem
We saw some great stuff on this outing but failed to see wildlife. We'll be back since we now know to ask the park rangers where the herd is. Others told us they saw a herd of 200 bison on their visit.
Trailer Grease Project (s4e26)
zhlédnutí 59Před 2 měsíci
In this video we are doing basic maintenance on our car trailer. I didn't realize when we bought it, that this was needed, but about a year after we had everything, I wondered if there was something to do and started researching. Sure enough. That grease needs replaced! This is how we did it and I am not an expert. If this helps someone, great. But do your due diligence to find the correct type...
Toilet replacement (s4e25)
zhlédnutí 54Před 3 měsíci
In this video we replace our Thetford toilet that came standard with our motorhome for a Dometic 320. It's a standard height vs the old one which was a "low profile". It's quieter (unexpected bonus). It sprays water all around in the bowl. It has a normal toilet seat vs that cheap piece of junk plastic that was just awful. This is one we put off tooooo long, and it will enable addition of a bid...
RV Roof Cleaning and Inspection (s4e24)
zhlédnutí 131Před 3 měsíci
In this video we share how we clean and inspect our motorhome roof. We also add a good UV protectant to extend the life of the roof. This is one where some smaller investment now, helps delay expensive roof work.
Welcome! This short video is to introduce ourselves to new viewers.
zhlédnutí 206Před 3 měsíci
We decided we needed a new video specifically to introduce anyone who is new to our channel. We have multiple Playlists setup to easily work through our content by category, or you can watch from Season 1 Episode 1 and soak them all in! :) Here are links to videos we have which I referenced in this video: RV Internet options, from simple to more complex and comprehensive: czcams.com/video/rUX4U...
RV Toilet Paper UPDATED version (s4e23.2)
zhlédnutí 109Před 3 měsíci
Updated version based on some feedback. In this video we talk about RV toilet paper. It's not exciting but is an important topic and a critical item to understand if you want to actually use your RV toilet and do NOT want to bag used toilet paper. We'll demonstrate how the right toilet paper works and how the wrong toilet paper does not work.

Is it possy to show how the sensor works ..so to say are they wireless? And if they are connected wireless with the chimes...where is the chime?
The door sensors are the two small pieces shown in the video, which trigger an OPEN alert on the phone app, when the 2 small pieces move more than 2 or so inches apart, and then indicate CLOSED again when they are near each other. The sensors themselves do not have a chime. They only trigger an alert on the smartphone YoLink app. Does this answer what you were asking?
@@travelingwithtroyandrhoda6442 Thank you... You have answered my question to some extent...Can I use the YoLink application to trigger chimes/alarm installed in house ..if yes, which make and model ... 🙏🙏
There are some "chime/alarm" options. There is a hub that can make sound (SpeakerHub), there is also a Siren Alarm. Check out their main website for more info: shop.yosmart.com Click on Hubs to see the SpeakerHub and click on Security then Sirens and Notifications, to see the Siren Alarm and read more about each. With the YoLink app you can setup automations so that sensor events can trigger certain actions, like alarms. Send an email to service@yosmart.com and they can guide you better. They have been great to work with and their products have served us well for quite a while now.
@@travelingwithtroyandrhoda6442 Thanks a bunch.
Beautiful place my friend done sub my friend
Things have really gone up over the years, but so glad your able to get out and see the USA like you are. Thanks for the cost break down and enjoy the trip..
@@weighit thanks!
Wife and I just watched this. First off, we're so happy for you both that you followed through with your plans, and that it has worked out so well for you. Secondly, she is envious of your travels and RV life, so she's banned from ever watching again before she gets any crazy ideas.
Glad to help! 😂
Beautiful!
We have the next 4 days off and doing more!
I cheat now and hire it out. When doing it myself, I would have Jane or another helper spin the wheel continuously while pressuring the old out and filling new, to better ensure distribution.
Maybe some day I won’t be too stubborn to ask Rhoda to help. 😂 I was hoping it helped my flexibility to use my leg. And could have led to another blooper opportunity! Hiring it out sounds appealing but it was kinda fun to learn and do it. At least once.
So much fun to watch! I must admit that I was laughing at some of your terminology, and when you were spinning the tire with your foot while pumping the grease gun with both hands…I think I would have fallen off my stool! 😂. This is your cousin from AZ by the way.
Yeah, I recognized you right away! Yes, my terminology is often lacking, but my persistence compensates. You're the most fit and nimble guy I know, no way you'd fall!
Wonder what the cost difference was between the new one and what the rv manufacturer installed, as the new one looks much better. Thanks for the video.
Hard to compare. I bet tiffin buys in volume. We paid $330 for the new toilet. But that’s a good questions. How much more to just put in a good one to start with? Especially at their volume purchase prices. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Must say, you are flushed with success!
😂😂😂😂 It was a nice success. Even more so if leaks don’t begin there in the future. Thanks!
Here is a great tip. Never wash your roof on a sunny day. It is best to pick an overcast day. You are fighting evaporation and any of you cleaner running down the sides will leave stubborn spots on the sides.
Thanks for the feedback. I didn’t seem to have much or any issue with evaporation. And somehow I avoided any spots on the sides. Maybe the concoction tiffin recommends helps with that. I fully expected a mess down the sides.
Since I'm not allowed up on the roof anymore by the "boss" I recently hired a mobile rv tech to inspect my 2016 Bus roof. He took many photos and we both agreeded that the front and rear cap needed to have the sealant removed and reapplied. Took 11 tubes and about 3 hours of removal and new being put on. The after photos showed that we should be all set for another few years. I also pay for the roof to be washed and 303 applied every year and it looked really nice. Your video is right on, keep it clean and look for any issues before they become a problem. Thanks for taking the time for this informative content.
Thanks for watching and for sharing your experience. I don’t look forward to removing and reapplying but maybe it won’t be too bad.
I came home from work yesterday and Sherita told me she was in our front yard and remembered something cute Emma had said (okay, to be fair, it was 2008 when she said it) She decided to google y'all and found this video. Looks like you are having a great time. Anyway, hello from Norman, OK. We'll be watching...
Amazing!!! Great to hear from you! Emma has said a lot of cute things for sure. :)
If you haven’t seen it yet, the Henry Doorly Zoo video on our channel has Emma in it.
I remember how sweet all the girls were when they were little. You guys were great parents and I'm sure you are so proud of what they've become. Thanks for pointing us toward the video.
Okc woo hoo
How did you decide on your brand of E Bike?
I had started following them when they were just a kick starter project years before. And I like their price point. Some e-bikes are thousands of dollars and I’m sure you get what you pay for. But these are solid and have great customer service. They work well. No regrets at all for us. Thanks for watching. Miss the good ol’ days!
The painted desert looks amazing. Where do you guys store the ebikes?
The Painted Desert was more amazing than I expected! The bikes fold up and then we strap them in the front of the car trailer. We have several feet of space in front of the car. Thanks for watching!
Who are you?! The best humans on this planet 👊🏼
No bias here! ❤️
I wish you had added RV toilet paper as a 3rd test.
Thanks for the feedback! That’s a great idea. I may try to get some and update the video. I still think the final result is marginal between that and what we use. But it would be more interesting to see the result. 👍🏻
We have always been told the holding tank in a rv is just that, not a septic tank. So for over 20 years we have never added any chemicals, but lots of water. Also buy Costco brand toilet paper. But I also have a Flush King that i use to back flush the black and grey tanks. I also removed the black tank flusher nozzle and drilled out the tiny holes and added more to increase the sprayer volumn. So combine the installed back flusher and the Flush King to clean our tanks. Enjoyed your video, thanks for the demonstration.
Yeah I think it is a very common mistake for people to say or think they are a septic system. And it is a common discussion about enzymes or not vs just plenty of water. I’ve considered a flush system too. I will check out flush king. So far we have paid a pro to do it annually (once so far). I saw someone just this week comment about having the standard tank flush system replaced by one that is much better. Thanks for the comment and watching!
Just subscribed and will be interested in following along your journey. As a model X and Tiffin owner this should be fun.
Awesome! Thanks!
Hey Troy she has the good yarn!!!
She does! And she got it at bargain prices!
What kind of battery powers it? How long do you think that will last?
YoSmart has some good videos on this kind of detail. czcams.com/video/UbuE2_ukrU4/video.htmlsi=idlNoiU0J-Tea5Bx Looks like a pair of triple A. Maybe double A. The box says extended battery life up to five years battery life due to unique low power or long range communication. IoT magic. 😂
Those look really great! I think that would have lots of home use also! I am looking at the other vids now!
I love their stuff! In fact I might have a problem. I keep finding more and more uses for it. And yes they do have the ability to do for your house what they do for our motorhome including water leak detection and turning off the water if there is a leak.
Diesel! 💪🏼😎
We are going to Austin in April during the eclipse, and then through glacier (staying for a few nights) and then into Canada and looping through Washington, Oregon, etc. during the month of August ending back in Wyoming. Might see you guys there - glacier! This is Traveling With Terriers by the way. We met briefly at the Gretna KOA.
Hey there! Yes I remember! Stay in touch and let’s connect at glacier if we can!
another hotspot con... is they have low gigabyte limits (50) on the hotspot. couple of movies and you cap out and your service shows way down
Very good point! Having caps of 300G and 900G and unlimited on our Verizon, T-Mobile, and Starlink respectively really allows for a house like Internet usage.
Congratulations to hannah and you guys!
Thanks! Fun new season of life!
Congratulations, Grandfolks! We recently acquired a great-grandson via adoption. Glad you are staying warm.
Thanks! Congrats to you!
That’s cool and new subscribers here!! Thanks for sharing! Happy New Year!❤Zack & Linda
Thanks for watching, subscribing, and commenting!
Love the off road comment. Sad to say I will never stay in the new guest room. I need a inside potty
Great point! Sounds like a need for a composting toilet for the extended guest room! :)
So good to hear
Awesome! After I talked to you yesterday I was able to find them on their website. Looks like it’s just a radio swap. Not to get my buddy at garmin to get me one. Thanks again!
Thanks for sharing this video. We are new to RVing and have a subscription to RVLife Pro but hadn’t started using it in any capacity, so watching your video was seriously helpful.
Really appreciate the feedback! It’s really a great tool.
How did you mount it where the radio is?
It was factory installed. There is a Garmin mounting bracket that integrates with everything including the radio, the side and rear cameras, etc. The Garmin is held on by a magnet but easily pulls away from the mounting bracket. We store the Garmin itself in a cabinet inside (tpms display also) to keep excess heat in the cab from cooking them. We lost one Garmin before we realized that the heat was so bad up there.
@@travelingwithtroyandrhoda6442 I’d like to see that if you ever get time.
@@Peculiar_Hodag I will post a pic or video of that tonight.
@@Peculiar_Hodag it will happen today. Yesterday was longer than expected with some medical treatment stuff. 👍🏻

Sounding really good, Troy! Thanks for letting us know.
Thanks! It couldn’t be better honestly.
Praise the Lord!!!
I hope and pray everything works out well for you.
Thanks! One infusion to go and it has gone perfectly so far!
why should u pay so much for a motorhome and, have to bring it back in for all these repairs??? if it was a car. we would all have a cow with the manufacture!!!!!!!! stop building junk!!!!! it is all about the money now. makes me very mad.!!
It is an industry wide issue. Low QC. It’s exactly why you must buy from a company who will at least take care of it under warranty. It’s not at all comparable to a car build.
really??? u forget the fact. that they are owned by maybe 3 companies now. tiffin. is no longer tiffin. it is just another thor product. all they care about is stock holders and profit. this is like a car. if u remember. back in the early 80's. we would make a list. of everything wrong with are car. then bring it back to the dealer to get it fixed. well. low and behold. the japs started building better car and cheaper. at first the big 3. laughed it off. until the japs took 25% sales away from u.s. manufactures. what this did. was make the big 3. build a better car. just facts. i can rebuild any rv on the market. i do not have to go to a dealer to have anything fixed. just ask bob. unfortunately, it is customers as yourself. just making excuses for QC. thanks for the reply though
Super technical stuff there!
A minute is just so short. I wanted to show the roll of tape and show how thick and sticky it is. But I just did that impromptu and it is what it is. 🤣
Thank you sooo much for this video. I looked up Peplink routers and there are many to choose from. Which one would be the best for someone RVing full time?
It really comes down to budget and needs. I’d focus on the lower end unless you know you need more. Let me review the models tomorrow and give better feedback. You want two SIM card slots/modems at minimum. More soon. Thanks for the feedback!
@@travelingwithtroyandrhoda6442 thank you so much! I’d love to hear more advice as I try to make decisions to meet our needs! By the way, love your Faith t-shirt!
I don't know if you found this link with the 4 top routers to check out. mobilemusthave.com/pages/mobile-internet-routers There is a button if you scroll down to SHOP ALL ROUTERS, but I know that gets overwhelming. Click on any router on either page I listed here, and scroll to find "SCHEDULE A CONSULTATION". They are very good at helping guide the decision. I wish our router had 3 sim slots, as I'd like to add AT&T to our mix with Verizon, T-Mobile and Starlink, but I can add a low end router for AT&T and just connect it to our existing router via Ethernet on the WAN port, to get all 3 and then pause whatever I don't need as I mentioned, but without swapping SIM cards all the time. We did the MAX Transit Duo Pro Mobile Router but they have released quite a few new routers since we bought just over a year ago. And new chipsets (x55 and x62) have come out. Looks like some are marked down 15-20% for Black Friday so your timing may be very good. If you work through all this and have questions left, let me know and I will try to help.
Wow you put the wifey in it and you get 6.1 views!!!
Help me convince her! :) I think CZcams had a glitch on that number briefly but has it fixed now.
omg- ebst , see you soon- Traveling! 😉
This was a great video! I'm curious about the last option but sticking with Starlink for now.
Thank you! Peplink just announced some cool new features that integrate the Peplink router with Starlink in a rich new way which would make it a great way to start for you! Then you would have it all in place, using Starlink, and if you ever decide you need Verizon or T-Mobile or AT&T, you can just add one or more sims and it’s super easy to add them. Let me know if you have more questions.

Grampa used to use candles and blackpowder for short-term heating problems. They say he travelled all over the place...
This made my head hurt and my ears ring! Somebody answer that phone!!!
Thanks for watching LawDog!!
very good to know.. thanks!
just retired from driving semi and now fulltiming in a 16ft travel trailer , so got use to all the “noise” negatives years ago!! luckily can pretty much sleep thru anything these days.. and its pulled by my Tesla model Y.. i only move about once a month, maybe a 100-200 miles, and can do about 80-100 miles at a stretch then need a half hour to top up and roll on , and then can recharge at campground.. safe travels to you all and maybe will see you down the road at some point!
Sounds like a cool setup! I follow a Facebook group for people who tow with a Tesla. It can certainly be done! It’s funny how often people ask where we charge the Tesla that we tow in a trailer. Often we are standing next to the 50amp pedestal when they ask! 😂 Safe travels! Be safe out there.

Simple. Drive south. 😂
My cancer specialist lives where it gets cold in the winter, aka OMAHA. He would like to go to Arizona with us, but can't leave his other patients behind. Normally we do go south for winter and north for summer. This year, is different due to ongoing cancer treatment. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment. We agree with you! Normally.....
@@travelingwithtroyandrhoda6442 all the best to you with your treatment 🙏🙏🙏
I would use the duct insulation like you do. Be sure your heated water hose is NOT coiled. String it all the way out. I just bought what i call a faucet snood. It covers the open freezeproof faucet and comes down over the hose connects, and cinches down. Made of Thinsulate. Ditched the beard, I noticed.
Beards start as a whim for me and get annoying pretty soon and are suddenly gone. I'd prefer not to shave much/often but I never seem to keep the beard long enough to get over it. I've seen those faucet snoods but I don't think it will fit down over my whole apparatus. And I don't know how to actually warm it inside as it would seem fairly tight to have an incandescent bulb on. Sounds like I need to string out my heated hose. What's the reason to not coil the hose? It REALLY likes to stay coiled, but I'm curious what you know about it.
@@travelingwithtroyandrhoda6442 Have heard keeping it coiled promotes melting of the heat strip. Just as with extension cords, flowing current creates heat that can’t be dissipated properly when coiled. Now you would have double heating, intended and unintentional. And your setup looks better with all the gadgetry you have there.
I had to call a locksmith in Dodge City because I couldn’t the deadbolt lock on door to open. Costly.
That stinks! I wonder if some regular spray maintenance would help. Thoughts?
@@travelingwithtroyandrhoda6442 Yes. I will be doing that annually.
