That doesn't make sense. Why plastic?
No sure what you mean. The material on the ground is weed barrier it’s breathable. Helps keep weeds under control. The edging is ecoborder made from recycled tires. Filled with pine bark
No need for plastic at all. Just use cardboard and compost over the top of it. The cardboard will rot down and you will have a nice looking border.

About how long did it take you guys?
About 2 hours. Steve forgot to record the initial part. They had to remove the old plants/shrubs before installing weed barrier, mulch and new plants.
We got a little over 2 acres of lawn, and we just mulch it up and leave it. Our grass comes up nice and thick in the spring. We used to gather it up with the mower and burn it all, but that took too much time.
For 2 acres that’s wild to try to pick up. I’m sure it took a while. Mulching I would instead. Helps a lot as long as it’s not too much where it covers the grass.
@steveandstevenslawncare6966 we got a mulching blade on one of our mowers, so by the time all the leaves are down, and we chop it all up, there's no visible piles. It's all shredded and makes its way down to the soil. Also helps that we have about 30 or so deer that forage our trees, and they'll tear up anything thats left

This is true as a general rule for most cases. If you put the time, effort and proper equipment you can mow Sun. Augustine much lower. Mine is maintained at close to golf greens height. It’s @0.386 of an inch. My TifGrand Bermuda is @ 0.250 height of cut.
That’s wild lol. I actually hadn’t heard of Saint Augustine being cut lower than many 2.5 inches.
Bermuda grass can be cut as low as a eighth of a inch on a level yard. Bermuda is what they use for putting greens.
