I have that bag. Snaps work pretty good so far
I just bought one. Thanks for the video!
I remember the Y2K mania. There were vendors at events formerly known as gun shows selling these as MRE. There was also a legend that the Abrams tanks all had microwaves in them. Funny, but i don't recall seeing this stuff in stores until way later. Now they're everywhere. I like them for trucking.
Nice video! Well done! Plan to order two of these. My only concern is the lid on the canteen. Seems to me the lid might be easy to lose when on a hike? Any way the canteen lid could be secured to the canteen itself? Otherwise, awesome looking piece of kit! Thanks!
I'm sure you will enjoy them. Not really sure of any way to secure the cap.
I would like to have it. I have a Swiss original, but I would like this in stainless steel. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to find or extremely expensive in Europe.
So do you think you would be better off with 2 adventure blankets and a poncho or 2 poncho liners or...? I'm looking to build a light kit for hunting that doesn't $uck. Thanks for your time in making this video.👍💯🤠
I like one of each. One poncho, one poncho liner, and one camp blanket. This gives you the widest variety of setups.
I need to add it depends on your situation.. how cold of temps would you be hunting in. If it's going to be too much below freezing you could probably add a casualty blanket.
Do you have ordering info on that sheath?
Yeah the company is Veteran owned. Great company. I've purchased the poncho and poncho liner in woodland camo.
I'd like to have a set in M81 woodland
You may want to turn down your TV in background when you do videos
Thanks for the review. I had come across another person's review of the USGI system where he uses the Camp Blanket and their Woobie to extend the temperature capabilities, so was looking for other reviews. I'm surprised that USGI didn't add snaps to their Woobie considering they put double-sided snaps on the camp blanket.
Condor makes a water bottle pouch that fits these M84’s perfectly!
If they made that with a bigger opening on top that be great and if they made it with that, so it is a little bit tighter fit in the nesting I will probably buy one
I would suggest a small handheld 2-way radio. That way you have some coms even if the cell towers go down. @cowboysurvival
I worked with Green River knives for decades on kill floors in packing houses. Carbon steel 6" skinners and 5" legging knifes I ground myself before every shift on a water wheel. Finished with slate sharpening stones made from a school chalkboard and kept sharp while working with 2 steels I made myself from chainsaw files.
That's awesome! Thanks for stopping by. I'm still digging this knife.
Love my Green River Blades. Bought my first Green River kit (Hunter with rosewood scales) over thirty years ago and still have that knife. I own two butchers, several Hunter, a couple of Sheath, a Ripper, a Patch knife. I make my own handles and sheaths and patina. Cold bluing is easily done with the 1095 carbon steel. Though I do not recommend bluing a knife you'll use for food. Gift them, sell them, own them. Awesome blades. Designed for practical use.
They are great little knives. Can't beat them for the price. Thanks for stopping by.
So the poncho isn’t USGI, but a USGI brand poncho?
That's correct
Thanks for the review. I served in the military in the 1970s. For about the past three decades I have been experimenting with minimal gear. The poncho liner was originally rated down to 60 F. Of course what matters most is if you are a hot or cold sleeper and how much clothing you have on. For me 60-65F with sweat shirt and long pants, socks and sneakers. I next added a safety pinned reinforced Mylar sheet with packaging tape where I was safety pinning it to my M81 poncho liner. The SOL double sized Mylar sheet is quiet, stronger and inexpensive. Which extended me down to 50F. I also use ithe liner as a quilt not as a sleeping bag by creating a foot box for my feet. And then tucking the poncho and liner around me. With warmer clothing and my M81 poncho attached I have gone down to 30 F with relative comfort. The blanket you reviewed would be a welcome addition between 30-45F. I have also installed a large horizontal zipper in my poncho liner about 8-10” down from it being folded in half so I can get my head through it. The offset allows for the drape over your shoulders and back so the bottom of the liner that is behind you to be equal to the length of material in front of you. So I can wear it with my poncho as an over coat with belt. If you put a slit and reinforce the SOL Mylar it will be event warmer especially if you have your poncho set up as a tarp. For the shorter military style poncho bring a 55 gallon drum liner bag. Put liner and sleeping pad in the black drum liner. Poncho over the top.
I would love to have one of my poncho liners set up like you described (maybe without the mylar). Sounds like you've had the concept of an insulation multiplier down for some time. Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and share your experience with us. I'd be interested in hearing other ideas you've had and about your experience with other military gear. Thank you for your service, look forward to hearing from you again.
Liked it so much I bought another one!

Yeah, so far I'm diggin' it
I have the 6 inch Green River Hunter and also have the 6 inch Green River Skinner too. Mine have matching ebony handle scales. Both were made in the 70s or 80s by Russell for IRT. They ran quite a few with thicker steel for whatever reason for a time. They are robust knives. Im looking for proper belt sheaths for these knives. Hoping not to have to go full custom, but it sort of looks like that may be the only option to get it done right. Suggestions are welcomed.
Those sound awesome. I'll have to keep my eyes open for one of those.
@@CoyoteRidge The same knives were offered under the Russell name as special 1976 Bicentennial editions with a inscribed brass plate on the handles. There was a hunter, skinner, and Dadley. I'm seeing them for sale on Flea Bay at astronomical prices for what they are. Collectors market pricing takes those beauties out of the realm of a using knife in my opinion. Too bad. Mine sure promise to be good robust historic working tools for the jobs they were originally intended to do. There is a certain quality of entertainment value derived from using a tool that has about 2 centuries of history behind its design.
You can make the sheaths. I started making them and can't stop. Lol.
Btw I should do a little catch and cook because you can clean fish easier.
You should
The knife is bigger than the fish😝
Lol, I know right. All about using what ya got.

good one .Keep them coming.
Thank you. I've been away for awhile now but, I've been thinking about starting back with videos.
I don't get it. If the backpack closes via some buttons, why is there a need to put straps? I want to get this backpack but closing it with buttons defeats the purpose of the straps. Doesn't it make it too easy for someone on the bus to open it and steal your stuff without you noticing? Do these buttons open easily?
Works very good and tasty
it doesn't appear to exist on the harbor freight website anymore... do you have a link?
I have the camp shield and the poncho, both in woodland. I have used both for about 2 years now. Poncho has held up great in rain, camp shield is great as a camping quilt in the summer. I haven't really had to use them together, but I usually tent camp. I do like that the camp shield can button into the MSS and stay put though.
Are the snaps on the blanket metal or plastic ? Thanks
The snaps on mine are metal I believe. It's getting time to break it back out so, I'll update you.
@@CoyoteRidgedo ya remember
@@cd7up They are metal
Thanks for this field review 👍. I’ve been eyeing these USGI products for use in an emergency 72 hour kit as a minimal sleep system. Question: With it’s lighter construction how confident do you feel using that poncho with cordage as a cover to sleep under?
It's pretty tough, I would have no problem using it. I actually keep it in my pack and have not had the feeling that I need to upgrade in any way.
Always wanted to get me one, I think now I'll pull the trigger on one.
I'd like to have a few more
Of all the guys I've seen doing the canteen cup thing, this way absolutely makes the MOST SENSE, those cups are really hard to clean if the food burns to bottom and gets the bottom all stuck up. I like to carry a small standard 1qt. enamel sauce pot myself. it's got a handle already there, it's all metal and can go right into the fire if necessary, and it's a whole lot easier to clean up after use.
Thanks for the kind words
Boil in package..flip..boil..use water for coffee.....I understand boiling water is supposed to be purified BUT....noooooo. I would not drink that plastic chemical laden water. Cool idea minus the coffee
What colour is this one? Is it khaki or green?
That one is green
Prayers for you and yours brother.
Thank you

Thanks buddy

Thank you
Just purchased 2 of them a week ago and was wondering how they'd hold up under heavy weather conditions considering they're actually of a thinner material than the actual military ponchos ..great demo sitting out in the hail/rain mix!👍🏼 Btw..What function does the pull string on the inner side of the rain poncho serve?
Thanks, the string is to draw it tight around you I believe, but I'm sure we could find some other uses.
What size did you get for the bag?
I got the large
Awesome channel bro! Good luck!
Thanks
much respect
Thanks James
Did you like the instant coffee?
Actually it was pretty good...for instant. I'll buy it again. It's super handy to have in a pack.
You should try adding the Arcturus Survival Blanket to the set, it’s about the same size as USGI set so maybe it opens more probabilities 💁🏻♂️
Aww btw, excellent video and review, I’ve been wanting this for months, you are the first one to try the campshield and the whole set together. Good job and best regards 😁
Thank you for watching and your kind words. I look forward to trying different things with this set.
