Damn Yankees! Like the Free State Project in reverse, in the early 1900's American farmers' organizations headed north with their socialist politics, leading to the creation of the Cooperative Commonwealth Federation (C.C.F.) which swept provincial elections in Saskatchewan in 1944 to become the first socialist government in North America. In 1961 the C.C.F. became the New Democratic Party (NDP...

In his book Free to Choose, Milton Friedman described four ways to spend money. 1. You spend your own money on yourself. 2. You spend your own money on someone else. 3. You spend someone else's money on yourself. 4. You spend someone else's money on someone else. About people migrating from so-called socialism to capitalism: GDR had to build the wall to stop the hemorrhaging population into West Germany.BTW Lenin called the Soviet economy "state capitalism"; only Stalin started to call it "Socialism".
Misleading information. Britain had slavery in all its colonies especially in Africa and India whose free labour enriched it. So is Japan which enslaved the Chinese to enrich itself. The Western World has enriched itself out of both slavery and resources stolen from other countries of the world!
Back then they read their questions. Just ask the question without reading!!!
I disagree that no colonial power benefited more economically than it cost them to maintain their colonies that is such bullshit and any honest historian knows that
People having a hard time understanding Big Gov destroys you and freedom.
He’s pretty unpersuasive here. He doesn’t back up a lot of his points with arguments or evidence.
"Vote with the feet".. It's really strong statement.... Kudos
This dumbass literally brought up Communist China as an example to follow when they were languishing in poverty and had just wrapped up the "Cultural Revolution" in which Mao tortured thousands and completely razed and destroyed their 5,000 year cultural heritage.
its 2024. theyre going after the internet too
History and facts have proven Friedman dead-ass wrong.
Slavery did exist in Britain. It was abolished in the early 1800s.
The wealth accumulated by Britain was created by the most oppressive slavocracy in the western world - in the Caribbean. Not until 1838 were slaves freed in Jamaica, and only then because the enslaved population was so difficult to control. Unbelievable as it may seem, the British government paid REPARATIONS to those British citizens whose slaves (property) were freed into the mid 1940's.
If I give you what you want in exchange for what I want, then both of us win. Socialism cannot give anyone anything; the rulers tell everyone what's what and what they must do, or else, instead.
Hmm... The accumulation of wealth is privately generated? Well, how can wealth be publicly accumulated? What is wealth? Where does it come from? My whole life, the people who love socialism the most are the most dishonest, thieving, lazy, liars there are.
Vote with your feet ✅
Such a smug look on Friedman's face.
Milton Friedman, an apologist for a narrative infrastructure of colonialism. I hope he is in the company of all the colonialists who ever existed!!! In the flames if Hell!!
Just another RACIST White man. I can't bear to listen to these MONSTERS.
Who was behind slavery?
Oof, RIP the cotton village
If rationing was such a great idea for a subsistence-economy, then why move away from it? Could it be that there is some sort of higher appeal to these shops that sprouted up?
Hitler was inspired by British colonization of India and repeatedly cited it as a paradigm and a model to be emulated. He was also inspired by the European colonization of Americas ans the Native American genocide. For example, Hitler once said that the Spanish have erected work camps in Cuba and British in South Africa and that he wishes to build work camps "for all sorts of parasites".
What is Milton talking about Britain didn't have slaves? Britain bought and sold humans into slavery over a century (1660s-1800s) and even continued the practice in the colonies until decades later (1830s). That's not including their subjugation of other peoples like in South Asia.
And it took colonizers centuries to realize they were not making money in their oppressive systems? Bull. They left when all the money and resources were sucked out.
Why are they all called Milton ?
Why are they all called Milton !?
Now a person can look back and see the ridiculous Marxist group think the colleges were manufacturing and today has manifested into the malignant movement through WOKE! Ultimately there is no perfect system but one thing remains true capitalism has provided the greatest improvement to mankind that’s ever existed and if this wasn’t true why are people risking their lives to get to the Western capitalist societies.
And yet despite the increased cost the quality of life of the average American keeps getting worse year over year coincidentally as government spending and the cost of the government keeps going up. It's almost as if the government itself is the problem. 🤔
Wow, uploaded in 2006. Anyone here in 2024?
Shaun King's dad.
The USA were better than all other colonists of pretending... Liberia, the south American countries were all USA colonies....and today we see the effects and the negative impacts the USA system had on these countries... Liberia has two currency, US dollars and Liberia Liberty....the colonizers steals the Liberian people's money and uses it as a trading currency while the Liberia Liberty is not even recognize on the international market..what nonsense....if Liberia is not a colony of the USA, than someone will have to define what a colony is for me.....milton freeman was a racist southerner who economic policy brought down was so horrible for free blacks..it eventually destroyed black entrepreneur....
Hmmm why colonies colonization and Christopher colon are so similar 😮 why japan is like pan Peter. What people are in their original home land.
A tolerance for debate that isn't here anymore. Why? B/c the democratic party and the media and academia has created a very mean country today. A bunch of spoiled/entitled 'groups'
Socialism vs capitalism is a false dialectic. The real debate is the American national system vs the British system free trade
Boy how much this way of laziness has grown.
"It costed Britain more to maintain India?" There was no growth in 1930s because of "struggle for independence" and hence no growth? DId you support their struggle? What about STARVATION DEATHS in 1940s in India under British rule? 4 MILLION DEATHS! He got it WRONG!
What did he get wrong?
@@Philotus Everything. Britain also starved Iran (not once but twice) and killed its democracy. Britain f... the Middle East up for generations. Let's not even talk about Milton as an economic adviser lmfao Savings & Loan Crisis, US becoming the world's largest debtor, biggest unemployment since WWII, biggest transfer of wealth in history from the middle claas to the 1%, tripling of the national debt and doubling of the military budget, recessions, average economic growth, more trade protectionism under Reagan than at any other president since WWII...
Britain’s benevolence is the biggest lie of our time. New research by the renowned economist Utsa Patnaik - published by Columbia University Press - deals a crushing blow to this narrative. Drawing on nearly two centuries of detailed data on tax and trade, Patnaik calculated that Britain drained a total of nearly *$45 trillion* from India during the period *1765 to 1938.*
This was so interesting to listen to. At first, it was upsetting, coming off as cold and malicious. But the more I heard it, the less so. There is no perfect world, government, society, or ideas. Freedom is imperative to a healthy society, and so is asking people how we can be of service to them through volunteering or charity.
"It cost Britain more to colonize India than it got in return". Goes to the heart of Capitalism, whose motto is and has always been: Socialize the costs and privatize the profits. The small group of rich and powerful in Britain got a LOT of wealth from Indian colonization. Most of which wealth did not trickle down. Sorry, Milt.
exactly.
Slave free labor wasn’t free because they had to be housed, fed, clothed, and provided fresh water, job training, health care, religious instruction, and child care.
Baby's first lesson on classical liberalism. Probably a good starting point for anyone interested in the origin point of a lot of modern political theory, but astute minds will realize that this video creates more questions than it answers. A good starting point for a smart person, but unfortunate when used as an end-point in itself by stupid people. See: commenters attempting to attach this philosophy to the authoritarian views of ayn rand for instance. Yeesh.. Not understanding the difference between positive and negative liberties is a huge reason for twisting the entire message and arriving at the opinions of commenters saying this relates to javier milei of all people. Its really sad to see our collective intelligence is this low.
Man Larry David sure is smart
Dude's white mom listened to too much Hendrix..
Although I find myself disagreeing with Milton´s overemphasis on capitalism and free market ideology, not once have I ever doubted the man´s humanism and compassion. People seem to think that he is callous or cynical and really, nothing could be more wrong. It is apparent he holds a deep reverence for humanity.
I wonder how he managed to get noble prize.... didn't even know the basics of Indian history..how shamelessly lies to people about colonialism
Gdy w natłoku kolejnych kampanii wyborczych, gdy zbyt długo poruszam się wsród innych polityków… wracam do źródeł i tego filmiku. Pozdrawiam
The "Newcommers" will make it better.
The questioner's comment on India as compared to China did not age well. India has caught up to and kept pace with China.
I wonder what that indoor-sunglass-wearing-ignoramos went on to do with his life.
😂
Not sure, but the bald ignoramus' economic "expertise" resulted in the US becoming the world's largest debtor (from the largest creditor), the tripling of the national debt, the doubling of the military budget in 6 years, the Savings & Loan Crisis, recessions, mass unemployment (highest since WWII with the exclusion of Trump), a period of average economic growth, the greatest transfer of wealth in history, and more trade protectionist policies than at any other point in time since WWII.
VLLC!!! Viva Milei!!!
