Out of 6 pups born, he was the third heaviest. Not underweight at all. Be patient with your great dane's weight. They grow so quickly and if you pack on too much weight early on, you might make an unhealthy and unhappy dane. My dane is now 2 and a few months and he's very healthy, happy, and active.

Firstly, make sure your vet rule out any health issues. Second, have a realistic goal by following the pup's family tree (so to speak). For instance, my pup is pretty active and his mom and dad were both active and lean as well. But that's part of the reason why they have good lifespans compared to other great Danes. So I would say, if you know how the mom and dad looks, use that as your target. Third, I'd also recommend that you replace treats with the food that you usually give. The treats sometimes makes them picky eaters. I had to stop using treats at one point until he became more consistent in eating his kibble. Fourth, be patient. Great Danes go through phases where they get tall and lean but fill out later on. Kxlo is 1 years old and currently 121 pounds. I can tell that he's in another growth sprut too because he's getting taller. He looks fit and is really handsome. He's active and an all around happy pup. Which brings me to the last point, just enjoy your great dane and don't worry too much about people comments on weight.

Thanks. I appreciate your compassion. This is a good opportunity for me to share some crucial best practices for other great dane owners that may be reading this comment. As you know, Great Danes grow exponentially and are often prone to bone and cardiovascular issues. You must be very careful to not overfeed your great dane pup. It is also important to ensure that they get all of their proper nutrients as well. Despite being very large dogs, most Danes have a lean structure and can weigh anywhere between 110 - 170 lbs as an adult male. While it may be temping to see your dane be on the bigger side, one must keep in mind the health issues. As such, it's very important to keep track of your dane weekly avg and also what you are feeding them. For instance, my Kxlo is gaining 3-4 lbs per week. Now as he is approaching 4 months old, he's now eating twice as much as before (avg of 6 cups per day spread out through 3 meals). He's much bigger now and more importantly, he's still keeping with his regular exercise regimen.
