    Was hoping to find an actual how-to to do a conversion like this. I have a '66 AMC Rambler Ambassador 990 with the 327ci V8 and a 2 barrel carburetor and intake manifold. I've heard the original 2209 Holley 2 bbl carbs are absolute garbage (can't adjust the choke right no matter HOW hard one would try), so wanted to upgrade to a 4 barrel, but 4 bbl intake manifolds for those engines seem to be rather rare. So hence why i wanted to look into the option of converting to the intake manifold from the later 390's and 401 v8's, but even then I seem to have problems finding any how-to's in that regard. I'd like to keep the 327, but honestly starting to wonder if I'm better off getting rid of it and finding a Gen 3 V8 to replace it.

    • @RamblinGarage
      @RamblinGarage Před 14 dny

      I ended up abandoning this project, just because I want to keep my car more original, at least at the moment. That being said.. what are your goals for the car? The 4 barrel intakes do float around, I'd expect to probably pay around $400 these days. You're probably good for a realistic 10-15 hp after that upgrade. That being said, if make mass amounts of power is your goal, the 327 is going to get VERY expensive. To swap to a Gen 2 or 3, you're going to need the engine, trans, and full driveline if your car is currently a torque tube car. As for this process.. if you have the spacers, it's really not a difficult process, you just need to cut off everything on the bottom side of the intake that isn't the gasket mating surface. It just takes time.

    • @eddierools
      @eddierools Před 14 dny

      @@RamblinGarage Thank you for the reply! It's rather disappointing that you abandoned this project since this seems to be the only video that I've seen on this subject. But I can understand the want to keep things original! In terms of my Ambassador 990, I'm looking to beef it up a bit, ideally get as much power out of it as possible without getting absolutely crazy. The primary goal is to make the car dependable and reliable on the street during the non-winter months, and it feels like upgrading to a 4 barrel is the best way to go without converting over to an expensive EFI system

    I own a 2014 Lexus GX460 that I bought as a cream puff at 97k miles about 2 years ago. It came with these newer generic Firestone All Season Tires on it. The tires honestly suck in every way except the noise. They are actually very quiet. They have the straight lines going through the tires vs the jagged lines that these have. I'm big on looks and these tires look excellent on the oem wheels my car came with. I know they will also perform better on and off-road. Therfore, The big question I have is are these going to be noisey and hum? As much as I hate the tires I have they are quiet so what do you guys think. I really really like these tires!

      Ah the age old debate that always leaves everyone looking and feeling like an ass.. lot to unfold here.. For starts, you enjoy your car how you want, I'll enjoy mine how I want. lol As for how little I drive the car. I drive the car pretty regularly in the spring and fall.. less regularly when the black leather scorches, mid summer. As for value, I have no desires to retire on the value of my car, that's what cash investments are for. The car has increased over 100% in value since I bought it though, I'll take that. I do enjoy my car, alongside my 6 other vehicles. That alone will naturally result in me driving my car less, I have to distribute about 10k annual miles between 7 total cars.. Not worth arguing about.. if you don't understand the want and desire of owning and driving a mint vehicle that is about as close to a brand new off the lot car, 24 years later, then you just won't understand, and that's okay. Have a good day, thanks for dropping by.

    The Excel G's are great on my 88', I tried the steering shaft upgrade and didn't like it, I noticed almost no change, and it made a clunking noise when steering so I went back to OE. When I swapped back to the OE rag joint it needed some slight alignment adjustment to make the steering wheel straight. Thats unfortunate with the trans pan, I went with a TCI aluminum pan with a Derale magnetic drain plug a few years back and they have been good, just had to retorque the pan once. The gasket and filter kit were AC Delco with the rubber gasket.

    • @RamblinGarage
      @RamblinGarage Před 29 dny

      @reddragon6613 I like them so far in mine, after a couple hundred miles they've really started to ride smooth and they're very comfortable. As for the steering shaft.. mine started doing that. If I'm turning left, as soon as I start to turn left it has a small pop/clunk. I have no idea why. I re-torqued everything and it went away for a couple of miles and came back. I'm not too concerned about the trans pan, I hopefully shouldn't have to drop it too much to renew fluids. Worst case I got a flush of sorts without pressurizing the system lol. Your trans pan sounds much nicer than the cheap one I bought.

    I wish you had included the taking off the tweeter. The first “tab” I put a trim tool under just snapped clean off. How did you remove the factory tweeter from the bracket? All good things to know / show.

      @ronron9274 it was pretty difficult to show with needing both hands, but if you pull up, versus pushing to either side of the tab it should pull up. It's also possible that in vehicles that spent a good bit of time outside, that the plastic just isn't as flexible and will crack from the stress.

    Trying to find a 4 barrel intake manifold for my '66 AMC 327 because I'm trying to upgrade from a 2 barrel, unfortunately I don't seem to be having any luck

    Which front door speaker adapter did you use? Your link has 4 options.

      It should be the one it defaults to, the 4568
