Good thought
Roll, roll, roll your boat gently to the stream 😊👍
this is great. thank you!
You're very welcome!
great build Rod
Looking nice
Did I understand you to say that you coated the cane with varnish?
Yes, to protect the cane from wet and dry cycles which will promote rot.
@@OrcaboatsCa I have some spar urethane. Would that work?
How do you prep the mastic coating before primer? Does it need sanding? Or do you just prime right over it?
Trick is to get it on as smooth as possible on each coat by applying it in small sections and then smoothing out with water. Once the mastic is dry, it can be sanded to get a smoother surface prior to primer paint, but will take more effort if the application of the mastic was haphazard and sloppy.
Excellent! Just the practical design that I needed. I will modify a bit to fit my newly-acquired (used...) Banshee 14 sailboat! Yay! Thank you kindly.
Did you make the seats? Love the contour
No. The seats are commercially made as much cheaper than weaving them.
@@OrcaboatsCa ok thanks
Why not use dowels or biscuits in the transom?
I could have and many do. I wanted the most amount of surface area for gluing.
Вот Джимми молодца! Очень толково! Все растолковал о клинкерной обшивке. Спасибо!
Love your videos! What is the height of the spacer and and height/thickness of the 8 pieces that make up the lip?
The lip is usually 3/8" thick when finished and around 3/4 above the deck to underside so spacer is 3/4". The lip is comprised of at least 6-8 pieces of very thin hardwood so that lip is almost 3/4 wide . Hope that answers your question.
What is the length/height of the coaming risers that you pre-cut?
Vertical pieces are usually around 2" tall. Extended slightly below deck to trim flush later and after lip is on, then top is trimmed flush with lip.
you make it look easy!! nice solution
Nice
Thanks
excellent!
Glad you think so!
Thanks
No problem
Your instructional quality is excellent. Your craftsmanship is equally as well.
Thanks
THANKS for this series... 3 Thumbs Up.
Thanks
Good looking foils.
Almost done!
Armor All Clear Preservative appears to be discontinued by Amor All. Home Hardware, Rona and Home Depot all indicate it is not available. Can you recommend an alternative? With thanks.
Yes, it appears that ArmourAll has discontinued its line of preservatives. The new one that I have found is clear wood preservative by Solvable.
@@OrcaboatsCa Thank you. :)
Thank you very much for your video. Very informative on hanging seats and depth of hanging seats. One question though. Exactly how far fore and aft do you position the seats? How far from the bow to the bow seat and how far from the stern to the stern seat? Again thanks for the information
If you have a set of plans, there should be some information on the drawings. Or you can calculate out based on weights of paddlers so that the boat will trim properly. But that does not always work so I just place the forward seat one scupper more aft for leg room up front. A lot of plans are based on older traditional canoes that the more modern ones are modelled after.
Great job! I need to do some repair myself. This video is going to be very helpful!
Very helpful, thanks!
Nice
Been looking for something like this to make my cedar strip pack canoe a better fishing craft. This looks like it will work perfectly - thanks
Owner was going to give it a try. We had no engineering to determine size of float needed to make a difference, but it is designed so that the floats can be switched out with something larger if needed.
@@OrcaboatsCa yes, I will play around with float size. I really liked the way you made the cross beam - got to get me one of those Lee Valley bendy things to get a nice snug fit across and down.
Nice to see the character of the wood.
Great progress.
Very nice!
Nice progress
Thanks. Getting close to the finish line now.
Love your videos but the music is distracting 😊
Love the look of the wood!
Way to turn an oops into a feature! True sign of a good woodworker...
The breasthook looks terrific with the inlays.
Nice progress
Nice work
I don't see Part 3. I even went to your CZcams site.

I can't wait to see my new revamped version of your logo on your videos I love your videos thank you very much they are wonderful
Not being a tech person, having difficulty getting it to look good in the videos, so still using the old one.
@@OrcaboatsCa The one I sent you has a transparent background but I will send you several more to choose from in a few days.
Nice work
Thanks
Looking great!
The marine plywood deck looks so much better than the foam/fiberglass one that came with the kit! Also, that was good engineering to strengthen the bulkheads.
Nice progress
Thanks. Putting a little extra "bling" into a rather plain plywood boat.
The boat is really coming together!
Nice progress
Thanks!
What is your email? I need to send you something
Somewhere in this video I’m sure it makes sense but I just couldn’t find it
Thanks man. Their directions were not easy to follow...I'm just bad at reading directions. It was nice to read and follow along with your video. 🤜
Glad I could help!
On the gun you have you can release the pressure on the piston by pressing the lever on the back of the handle to stop the dripping. Upgrading to a power caulking tool is a good investment for those of us who are getting on a bit and don't have the hand strength we used to have. Cheers Eric
Yes I can release pressure on the handle, but that does not pull back the plastic plunger which still as pressure on the caulking inside. I hear you on the hand strength, though. If I am using a pretty thick caulking and only have a small hole cut, I find myself using two hands.
A quality dripless caulking gun is definitely a worth the expense IMHO. Great video thank you!
I was looking at the Makita 18V gun, but every time I have to caulk, it is just for a small amount and then I think I don' t really need the expense. On amazon now for $278. I am sure once I have one, I would wonder why I never got one earlier.
