Frumious Bandersnatch - Hearts To Cry
This is a monster! Starts all moody and somber then evolves into one of the finest pieces of guitar playing I have heard. Epic!
The "Frumious Bandersnatch". were named after a character from the Lewis Carroll poem "Jabberwocky".
Based in Berkeley, California, the band was active from 1967 to 1969. Their initial three-song EP produced a minor underground hit with the song "Hearts to Cry". A recording of their live work, titled A Young Man's Song, was released in 1996 by Big Beat (UK).
The band was formed across the bay from San Francisco in Contra Costa County, and changed personnel several times. Despite interest from several record companies, the band's only release was a three-song EP on their own label, pressed in a quantity of 1,000 and distributed locally.
Four members of Frumious Bandersnatch (Bobby Winkelman, Jack King, Ross Valory, and David Denny) became regular members of the Steve Miller Band. Valory, along with fellow Frumious Bandersnatch member George Tickner and manager Herbie Herbert, joined former Santana members Neal Schon and Gregg Rolie to form the band Journey in 1973.
Members :-
David Denny - Guitar
Jack King - Drums
George Tickner - Guitar
Ross Valory - Bass
Bobby Winkelman - Rhythm guitar, bass
Bret Willmott - Guitar
Jimmy Warner - Guitar, vocals

That lead guitar part in the middle just builds out of the song in an unexpected way. It's pretty cool.
This reminds me of a Cream song
Zoot Money and Andy Sumner!
Yes. Zoot Money and Andy Somers according to label credits!
Loved this video. Looking forward to see more. Awesome... Full watched.
Took me ages to find a copy of this, fab!
@@steve55sogood16 A rare one. Thanks.
Dig it!
😊
Great video
Philip king Thanks for the band info. Very good song.
Far Out man! been waiting to hear more from them I always had a suspicion there was more, these guys were from my neck of the woods, love Parma bands!
Raro cantante,es rocker o beat, buena guitarra de fondo y me parece muy interesante
Bought a demo copy in the early 70s at a bargain price but sold on in the 90s for a vastly increased price.Rog.Pacific Sunset Records .
Simply fascinating. Joney Sparkles.
@@joneysparkles4312 Hi buddy.Is that so?. I'm pleased.Have a great day.
❤
Always preferred Green Telescope to their later incarnation as the Thanes. Have you ever heard the Off Hooks, another Edinburgh garage band with Lenny on drums.
@@tamarmolerick3814 I will look into that one. The green telescope also recorded two songs that appeared on a compilation called "The Waking Dream". One of them is a great cover of the "The Calico Wall - I'm A Living Sickness" Possibly to be posted soon and maybe their Wump single.
This will be in a Tarantino film someday 😌
oh very cool ! Any connection with Joe Meek ? I can spot an influence ! Hidden Gem !
Not to my knowledge. But he wrote, performed and recorded his own material in a similar manner.
youch i just stubbed my toe
Did this one get you dancing? Lol.
Tremenda
What the hell was in that Texas water in the mid 60s? So may awesome Texan bands recording during 1966 -8.
I wish I knew. Just one hell of a creative vibe comes from that Lone Star "State"!...
Never heard this version of come through, tight
Absolutely brilliant love it so much, wish i had more people to post it to.
WOW
Big Boy Pete was either a space cowboy or a starman. His music was out of this world..
A brilliantly creative musician. Thanks again mate.
Great!
Another fine gem. This track has real character. Love it. The stabbings of a good guitar, the singing.....thanks for posting this..really thank you
What a sparkler. I think the organ is a Farfisa. It sparkles, too
Thanks for that. Farfisa had a lovely sound.
Big Boy Pete knocked me off my feet. Cold turkey 🦃 is a tuff bird. Psych supreme! Coincidentally,.John Lennon wrote a song called, "Cold Turkey", released by the Plastic Ono Band in 1969.(different song same title)
Killer primitive!
the address of the record company is a house now
Wow - the guy is a genius!!!
Wild!
It's tuff stuff! There's a Bo Diddley vibe. "Who Do You Love?" ? Off the rails guitar. Maybe, a little aHead of it's time. Maybe early metal? A little? Another scorcher from Texas. TX crude, indeed. Thanks, p k
It's a nice one Thomas, and a very heavy record for its time. Thank you.
Esto es un cover irónico de My Generation de The Who???
Awesome! Texas Garage Rock Bands never disappoint.
Hey Phillip? Does the name Jerry blavat ring a bell? In Philadelphia he is known as the geator with the heater, the big boss with the big hot sauce. You could easily fill his shoes if you know the background behind all of this music
That is interesting. Will look into that. Thank you.
Sixties are back. Haha
For some of us, they never went away. Just in the background for a while! Thanks.
Awsome!
Exactly excellent ❤
Long time fave.
This rocks!
It does indeed. Thanks USA.
Great
well done :-)
It is just such a perfect melody! Incredible piece of song writing performed by really good musicians.
Thank you for your posts...Now many talented people are featured after 60 years.
That drummer sure has a great performance and interesting rhythm structure.
Great record. 67 or 68?
67. Added to description. Thanks.
REALLY like this. Has it ever been commercially released?
Not to my knowledge. There is only one known Acetate that this gem originates from, many thanks to the provider of that one.

This is the epitome of hippie music... LSD, Cannabis, opiated Afghanistan black hashish.....
lsd/shrooms + hash paired with underground psych rock is an unbeatable combo
Cheers! Don't forget the Nepalese Temple Ball or the Kashmir Black.:)
They remind me of Arthur Lee and LOVE.
