Hi Tyler, We are basically just at the beginning yet and are still experimenting. We grew just 45 salads for the moment in this video. The cool thing is, that you can harvest the salads more then 1 time, if you just take off the exterior leaves! We have already built a structure for more and further salads in the Landhotel altes Zollhaus. The cost of the electricity is basically 0. We calculated and at the end every salad will have a cost of less then 0,05€, because the lights we use are very efficient and we keep them also at the window for natural light. The nutrients we put in have also a very low cost, because we just use small drops of liquid ecological nutrients. But you can basically do that on your own and many things like "ph-lower" or "sm/cm-lower" is not necessary, if you use for example rain water. So here costs are very variable. We spent quite a bit at the beginning, but now we are getting more and more efficient. Water is not a cost at all, because we use rain water and one sistem with 45 plants just needs 13L of water for 1 month. The only thing that costs a lot is the material at the beginning, like the small greenhouse or for example the led lights. We did not calculate the cost per salad yet, because the material can be used for at least 15 years and we have no ideas yet how many salads we can grow in that period of time. The led lights were around 200€, greenhouse around 40€. But I guess if we use them for 10 years, the cost will be very low. The good thing about it is as well the 0km-topic. The method is very effective, as the Landhotel Altes Zollhaus wants to buy food as locally as possible, in order to save CO2 emissions. The salads taste as well very good!

We also started growing sprouds, which are very easy to grow. Cost per seed is very very low.

No it's a "Bivacco" or "Rifugio", it is a shelter in case of emergency. The italian state puts these on the mountains for hikers in case they don't have time to get home on that day and they can sleep there for a night. 😉
