Exhibition Tour—Collecting Inspiration: Edward C. Moore at Tiffany & Co. | Met Exhibitions
Join exhibition curator Medill Higgins Harvey, special guests, curators Deniz Beyazit and Monika Bincsik, on a tour of the exhibition Collecting Inspiration: Edward C. Moore at Tiffany & Co.
Edward C. Moore (1827-1891)-the creative force who led Tiffany & Co. to unparalleled originality and success during the second half of the 19th century-amassed a vast collection of decorative arts of exceptional quality and in various media, from Greek and Roman glass and Japanese baskets to metalwork from the Islamic world. These objects were a source of inspiration for Moore, a noted silversmith in his own right, and the designers he supervised. The exhibition Collecting Inspiration: Edward C. Moore at Tiffany & Co. will feature more than 180 extraordinary examples from Moore's personal collection, which was donated to the Museum, alongside 70 magnificent silver objects designed and created at Tiffany & Co. under his direction.
On view through October 20, 2024

In this episode we'll look at two artists who turned to the material of space to express what nothing else could. Featured artworks: Rachel Whiteread, Closet, 1988 Rachel Whiteread...

Through 30 movements of mathematics and acrobatics, the bass line of J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations stands constant, a staunch pillar of infrastructure undergirding one of Western art music’s wildest (yet most logical) exercises in transformation. In December 2022, as part of their Met residency, Catalyst Quartet presented an immersive dive into Bach’s behemoth Goldberg Variations, featuring t...

What happens when the unbreakable breaks? Throughout art museums around the world, you’ll find ancient stone statues of rulers and marble monuments immortalizing noblemen. These objects were made to survive decay and destruction, to remain intact and whole. But from the moment that stone is extracted from the earth, it is bound to become a more fragmented version of itself-chiseled, chipped, an...

My question is how did it fall?
I wonder just how many works break or need restoration. In a way, it makes most of the iconic paintings and sculptures a work of collaboration to keep them alive for eachother. kinda neat.
But.....Arent the west sooooooo capable of taking care of priceless art 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I don't think this is "the most important sculpture in the western hemisphere" but that's just splitting hairs I guess
😮😅
Oof, imagine all the little pieces? Aaaahhhh
How did it fall
Thanks!
Oh wow I LOVE Sheila Hicks!
I love your passion!!! Thank you for your dedication. There are so many works of art and pieces of history that must be protected, and some of it has gone to you and your colleagues! Thank you!
hmm.. very interested in watching this!!
Now imagine all the history lost in gaza
It's creepy that the museum personnel can't even make sure it's on a proper base.
How did it fall down?
What makes it "The most important" renaissance sculpture in the Western Hemisphere?
The silver lining is that she got to work on an incredible sculpture, which is such an amazing opportunity. And I would like to think, if this would have happened when Lombardo was still alive, what would he have changed?
How did it fall!!??
I saw this movie 40 years ago. Thank you for posting! It was an inspiration for my video on Thai potteries.
Redefine devastation!
Ik someone was fired that day 😅
Such a prof præsentation 🎉 Thank you ❤❤
What caused it to fall, and why do so few people ask the obvious question? The complacency and lack of inquisitiveness is scary.
What on earth makes this "THE MOST IMPORTANT" Renaissance sculpture in the western hemisphere!?
The obvious first question is how did it break into pieces?!
I saw a video of some ancient Babylonian sculptures being destroyed by the Taliban (?) & it was extremely painful to watch, like DEVASTATING. So I totally understand how this lady felt
HOW DID IT FALL??? This thing has been in tact since the 1400s.. Did someone push it? I don’t even think it can be pushed! It weighs so much.. I really want to know how it fell
A magnificent video, a superb project. We all want to go to NYC to enjoy the exhibition .
Ladies and gentleman here are the elites.
Why is it considered the most important renaissance sculpture in the west? Is it because so few?
I listen to this every day ❤️!
Wow, what an impressive craftsmanship..
Definitely NOT the most important one
Delight Medill.
SO GRATEFUL that you’re providing streams and videos to allow so many people all over the world see and learn such important parts of our artistic history. Thank you thank you. Please keep doing these revelatory streams/videos. Sharing art. All gratitude @TheMet.
All those hidden object games would have fully prepared me for this 😂
Please, by the love of thought, swift way past the introduction. The viewers have a right to get past the unfortunate blazes which should threaten them. How far are you, the ultra-wealthy, to cross against how much had politically retained your wealth?
Silver can be explosive. This had not been the case earlier, but a swiftly increased temp... might overwhelm predicted stats. Your turn: go! - This is a challenge, Can we hold accountable? % ?
I didn't know those scultures could ever fall down. I thought they were secured?
How horrible but so glad they were able to put it back together
Museums keep moving and adjusting pieces, making them more prone to incidents like this. Just leave them be already.
It is fabulous. Worth seeing more than once.
Outstanding ❤
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙌🏻
Jlo definitely didn't get the memo!
wonderful prequel to actually seeing the exhibition. I appreciate the emphasis on the cross cultural influences and recognition in Moore's era of the skill of less well known artists an artisans.
Why did you add the fig leaf back 😂
I can't wait to see this stunning exhibition!
It’s a lie. That’s why it was broken. Adam didn’t look like that .
And how do you know what Adam looked like?
They have like an 8 minute video on this if anybody wants more!
