Hopefully there will be a similar story when the current 1973 Stock on the Piccadilly line is sent off for the final time, probably around 2027 I think.
I just say the 1972 stock will sent off and the 1973 stock will become the Bakerloo line taking over the 1972 stock

I intend to use this chip to convert the locomotive in the boxed set "East Coast 00 Railway Set R1214" to DCC. The will then ensile me to run the loco on my large DCC layout controlled by an ECoS ESU Command Station. I am not interestd in having sound but wonder if things have improved in the 9 years since the first post. If not, should I be looking for another make of decoder?

no it does, the doors are in release mode at termi stations so you can open them whenever
After a certain amount of time, like with all modern stock the doors close, but do not lock. They are still openable using the adjacent release button
