@@EvilDragon666 Yeah I definitely found 80 to be too thin for D1, I think it's pretty much perfect for F though, which is what I play most of the time

Thanks, yeah, this one was Archetype Petrucci, I used the Awaken the Master preset and I think I removed some low end with the multi-band EQ

I haven't ever had the chance to play one, I'd like to give one a try at some point though

Thanks very much, sure thing. I use a Scarlett 2i2 for input, into Logic. The tone here is Fortin Nameless(One tone panned hard left and hard right, another tone panned about 50% left and right) The bass is Shinzbass and the drums are a blend of GGD Metal with the snare and kick from Architects blended in, and a small amount of one of the snares from Modern and Massive, though I can't remember which one at the moment. Besides that, I have a subscription to Slate Digital that I use for all the processing plugins. Probably too much to list in a comment but if you send me an email at jjrrecording@gmail.com I can send you some screenshots of specific settings. I hope that helps \m/

You're not wrong, it's definitely pretty muddy but I don't think it's as much to do with the tuning as it is with the fact I don't have the knowledge/skill for mixing haha. At this point I could probably get a clearer/better mix but I still don't have a clue what I'm doing haha. I actually quite like the drone/riding the low string vibe but I can definitely see your point and I think if I were to redo this song I'd add a bit more variation. I appreciate the feedback though so thank you \m/

This is a set of 10-80, I wouldn't go any lighter than that for this tuning

@@jjrrecording thats bad ass. I too play through a 10-80 set and I was playing in drop D# just for the hell of it last night and it sounded great. I switched to string joy I have had no complaints my man👌👌

I go through a scarlett 2i2 into Logic and I use Neural plugins, the audio just goes straight to the speakers. I get major latency issues with any real processing so that's all turned off when recording and I use a stereo instance of kontakt instead of my multi-out kit for drums to save on processing too. I only turn everything on for rendering the full track. Using a standalone plugin is a good option too, rather than an instance in the DAW. Lastly, setting the buffer size as low as you can get away with helps cut down on latency. I hope some of that helps \m/

I had latency problems until I realized my headphones should be plugged into the audio interface and not the computer’s jack. On both that crappy computer and my new one the latency was zero when plugged into the interface. My recording deal is janky so it’s probably not as difficult on the computer as a smart person’s setup. I honestly have no clue what I’m doing but I enjoy doing it so don’t take anything I just said as serious advice.

@@13_cmi I haven't tried with headphones while playing actually but I don't have too much issue with roundtrip latency in general, but my computer just can't handle the amount of processing I have in a full mix context so the easiest solution is just to record without it haha

Yeah it's just an octave pedal in Archetype Gojira blended about 50% i think, I prefer the sound of a blend rather than 100% pitch shifted \m/

Thank you, that's very kind. I honestly believe it's just practice, the more you write, the better you get a writing. It seems more obvious with a physical activity like instrument technique or running or throwing a ball etc, but I think it works the same way for creative processes too. It's the only thing I do with the guitar, I don't practice technique or learn songs anymore, I just write haha but it's by far my favourite thing to do \m/

@@jjrrecording I think I have to find a way around picking up the guitar and 'noodling'. Being disciplined and having the goal of actually writing riffs is something I'll have to work at.

@@farginicehole Yeah I'd say having that focus on getting something written is very helpful. That being said, for me, noodling is the best way to get the process started and ever since I started playing guitar, that's what I spent the majority of my time doing with it. I think it's just a case of developing the process to make it productive over time and with practice.
