Belated happy birthday, hope you had a wonderful day
Thank you so much Helen!
Good to see you again Aryn! I'm doing reasonably well on my card, although I seem to be struggling a bit with getting things completely finished. I'm hoping to make some progress on that this week.
So great that Avery is able to join you at your shows now and is even making her own things to sell. I can't wait to see how her sweater looks as you make progress on it. Aren't you a good mom knitting one in brioche for her! I love using my bingo card to keep me on track with my knits. I just recently got my first bingo for the year which is always exciting.
I hope your summer is going well. Emilia got her learner's permit in June so this summer has been spent on driving. So far so good. She's very cautious so we take it little by little. Get ready, mum, because soon it will be your turn! :D The mitre square blanket is so bright and cheery! I love that Avery is making some items for your shop.
No, how is that even possible!!! I'm not even mentally ready for her to start high school let alone driving lol. I can't believe the blanket might actually get finished!
The cumulus looks really lovely on you Aryn, great colour and I was just admiring your earrings when you said Avery made them wow great job Avery xx
Thank you Penny! I can't wait to get more wear out of it in the fall :)
So nice to see you again Aryn! Your Cumulus blouse turned out great and looks lovely on you!
Thanks Amanda!
I have the same attitude towards gardening as you do. “I planted you now you do your bit and grow!” Lol. I’ve knit cumulus and it’s a great pattern. Yours looks great on you.
Thank you! So far so good with the plants I picked up - except the squirrels keep digging one of my pots up >:(
So nice to see an episode from you! Your new Cumulus looks amazing on you. I love the Scheepjes stone and river washed yarns. Looking forward to seeing the sweater you have queued for Avery. Good luck with your shows (in case you don't get another episode in prior to them)!
Thank you Sylvia! First show down! Hoping to cast on Avery's sweater soon :)
Your cumulus sweater turned out beautiful and looks great on you. Love the little photo bomber in the background in the picture.....lol. That sweater you're making for Avery should look great on her too.
Your Cumulus is looking so good! I did not finish a single project in April but hoping to line up some finishes here in May so I can feel like I've accomplished something.
I hope you managed to finish some things! I did not knit as much as I had hoped this past month.
Oooh, can't wait for the May shipment. That toucan looks amazing. I heard the footsteps and was hoping for a Keira cameo but you edited it out.....☹ Maybe next time, lol. Your Cumulus blouse is looking lovely. I can't wait to see the pics of you wearing it.
I was working on a shawl using the lace weight yarn I got from your destash when this popped up! Love how your mil socks turned out!
Thanks Helen! I hope you're enjoying the yarn :) I'm so glad it found a new home because I don't tend to work with lace weight.
I think I heard from another podcast that this year is the final year of the Desert Vista Dyeworks monthly challenge.
Good to know!! I won't feel bad about using the yarn then :)
Hi Aryn, the socks for your mother-in-law turned out great and I love the socks for your mom. That contrast yarn works really well with the self-striping. It's started to feel hot & humid here this week, so I can tell summer is coming. We were lucky in that while it was too cloudy to see the first half of the eclipse, the weather cleared up and we were able to see the second half. We were in the path of about 90%, but with the clouds we didn't really get the effect of the dimming of the sunlight either.
Thanks Amanda! It's so satisfying to see older skeins from my stash get used :) I'm not sure if I'm ready for humidity, but a little heat would be nice. It's still so chilly most days and I'm itching to get out a little more. That's cool that you at least got to see part of the eclipse! The day after our skies were perfectly clear and blue - womp womp.
Thank you! This technique was offered as a class, and I decided to research. Your great video saved me time and money! As an experienced chain plyer, I am excited to give this a try!
Oh thank you for letting me know! I hope you love the results. It's one of my favorite techniques with spinning :)
I love how your chameleon turned out! Those pink yarns work together so well in the socks for your MIL and I love the spiral flashing with the striping yarn.
Wow such a packed episode 😊 just love the chameleon it’s brilliant xx
Thank you so much Penny!
Your brother's striping socks are giving 70s vibes and I love it! OMG, the chameleon! Great work! It looks fantastic!
The chameleon turned out awesome and that pom pom does match perfectly!
The chameleon! It sounds like a pain to make, but when you're done it will be amazing!
The individual parts haven't actually been that bad, but there are definitely tedious parts. I think all the shaping is worth the finished product though!
I love that pink of your Cumulous sweater. The chameleon is going to be adorable. I do love knitting striped yarn socks. They are even great for micro striping. I have made a couple of pairs that way. I am currently working on a pair of micro striped shortie socks for myself, another “Birds of a feather” shawl and a couple of baby blankets for a set of twins for a teacher.
I love the pink too! There are so many gorgeous colours in that yarn range. I think my next pair of micro stripe socks are going to have to be two striping yarns combined. That sounds like so much fun. Twin baby blankets! What a fun project :)
Whoa! I'm going to have to wear sunglasses when he's wearing those socks.........lol!! Can't wait to see how that chameleon looks when it's all finished. It looks like it'll be a fun addition to your collection.
Lol, they're not as bright as some of the pairs you have made him :P
I love the chameleon! The directions do sound tedious and frustrating, but it will be so cute when done. The socks you are making for your brother are very bright and fun. I love the pairing of the yarn that you made and hope working on these and the chameleon are helping you through this last part of winter when spring is only teasing its arrival. Your sweater is coming out great and I hope you love it as much as the green version. I have yarn set aside to make it, but I'm still a bit hesitant when it comes to garment making. I've only marked off one square on my card so far, but I think March is going to change that. I've been working on only my existing WIPs as I told myself that I couldn't cast on anything new until I finished something. The only project I have that I could just sit down and knock out is my vanilla socks and that would just lead to casting on another pair of vanilla socks. I've ended up cycling through about 6 different projects as I get to a point that I don't want to continue on them for whatever reason and I'm expecting that I'm going to finish them (or get to my goal stopping point) in March. We'll see how it goes!
Wooo! Sounds like you'll make a lot of great progress this month :) I think the Cumulus is a pretty good starter garment. None of the construction is overly complicated, and the finished product is a very wearable flattering design.
Hi Aryn, you’ve been going great on all your projects, love the colour of your brothers socks, the new neckline looks perfect, I remember the hippo plans 😂 the blanket looks really great and so does Keira’s blanket - what a great idea.
Thanks Penny! I'm really looking forward to getting some older projects finished this year :)
I love the color of the sweater you are wearing!!
Thank you!! I'm so glad I'll be able to wear it more now :) I love finding things in this colour.
I have one original yarnit and one of the larger ones with a hinged lid. I use them ALL the time! Love the new neckline on your sweater ... still loving that blue on you.
I have two of the original ones - I would have loved one of the larger ones!
@@ArynP It's weird. The original one was given to me by a knitting buddy. The large one I found on sale at either Michaels or Hobby Lobby. I love them both but the large is my favorite since it has a hole in the top and I can pick it up easier with one hand. 😂
The new neckline suits you. I love that colour on you. I love Bernat blanket for baby blankets. It is such a great yarn. I make several baby blankets a year with it. I have made a large one for myself. I do like crocheting them as it works up so fast. I also knit it up in that basic dish cloth pattern. It has such a nice squishy drape when knit.
Thank you!!! I agree the Bernat Blanket yarn would make a beautiful knit blanket. I just know I don't have the patience for that lol. I have made Avery a larger one and I wouldn't mind an adult sized one for us eventually!
That color looks great on you! I love the new collar.
Thanks Vanessa!!
I love the modification you made to your sweater neck and the Cumulus blouse is coming along great! Sounds like you've made great progress on blanket planning as well. I'm glad that you are getting/taking the time to work on your crafting more again.
Thanks Amanda! I'm glad too :) Hopefully it lasts past the winter time when we naturally just don't have as many plans lol.
Your sweater adjustment worked out really well and I'm glad that you're going to get more use out of the sweater, the colour is lovely on you. I have a sweater with a similar issue and you've inspired me to stop putting off fixing it and give it a go!
Yay!
Love your creativity on the blanket! So good!
Thanks!! I'm so happy to get that one out of the pile :)
What a great idea to reclaim the yarn from a garment that you don’t wear to create something that you already know you enjoy. The blue sweater does look great on you. Hope you manage to find a fix for it.
Thanks Nancy! I think I figured something out :)
Did you know that Knitpicks have a new Felici yarn, it’s mini stripes I think it’s called Felicini
I saw that in the newest catalogue I got!
The blanket turned out beautifully! So glad you were able to come up with something to use all that yarn with.
Avery's blanket is aDORable!! I've got to agree ... that blue is amazing on you. I hope you're able to fix the neckline rather than frog and reknit. I've actually started and finished a pair of socks, two hats and a child's scarf so far this year. Now I'm working on a Musselburgh hat and a Flax Light sweater.
Thanks Sylvia! I think I have figured something out and I look forward to sharing it in the next episode :) Look at you go!! Way to have a productive start of the year!
I'm so glad that you were able to make something that you are happy with out of the owl blanket WIP! I haven't finished anything yet this year, but I've been making some good progress on a few older WIPs so I'm happy with that.
Progress on old projects is awesome! I think it's even more satisfying when you finish a really old project vs a new one :)
Hello Aryn. That was really creative, love what you do with the owl blanket yarn. 🥰
Thanks Ginette! I'm so happy to have something made with all that handspun :)
Can you put two owls together and make little stuffies?
Stay tuned! I figured out a solution :)
A cat blanket would be amazing and much appreciated!😺 You've seen my WIPs. haha! I have been going through them again and setting up soft deadlines for completion. It's actually been a pretty monogamous January and I feel like I'm making a lot of progress.
I love when you share your wips! I'm trying to focus on a few projects this month as well - especially my socks leftover from last year. Hoping to cast on a new pair in February!
@@ArynP Are you doing the DVD sock along this year??
I remember most of your wips at some point in time. I would also frog the grey cable sweater and start over, especially if you really like the yarn for it. I would finish the cameleon. I think Kiera would love it! You could take the heel out of the scrappy socks and make leg warmers or boot cuffs for either Avery or Kiera.i love that sock blanket. They are knitting up into a fun pair of socks. For the owl you can make a fleece blanket and add them on as patches. For the sections for the hippo you can square them off and then use them as the top border of a blanket. So many possibilities with the patchwork items. I really don’t have any wips. I do work on a few projects at a time but have really been trying to focus on having only a couple of projects on the go at one time.
I thought you might remember most of them! I think I've figured out a plan for the owl blanket, and it's kind of similar to your idea for the hippo pieces. I want to try and do something with the hippo pieces, but they're all different shapes and sizes since they were going to form a 3D object. Now I'm thinking I might try to make a cushion with them for his cat, and then he gets a matching blanket (provided there's enough yarn for a blanket lol).
Hi Aryn, I love to see podcasts where people go through their WIPs as well! I used to not really care or keep track of how many WIPs that I had as I figured that I would get to all of them eventually. Then I had small children and a lot less time and brain space to actually work on projects. The first time that I pulled them all out and counted (~8 years ago), my knitting and crochet WIP count was in the mid 30s. I've frogged only a couple of projects from that pile and have worked my way down to 12 projects. I worked on all of my WIPs last year and have progress/finishing for all 12 projects on my card for this year. My downfall is having too many big projects on the go. Of the 12 projects, 7 of them are blankets and I also have a large shawl on the go. I would really like to get down to 5 WIPs total, which I expect to take me another couple of years. I'm not a monogamous knitter, but I need a little more focus.
I used to have a ton more as well. It always amazes me how little time some of them take to finish once you sit down and actually focus on them! I don't count my blankets since they have a purpose and plan in place and it's just a matter of chipping away at them. Getting yours down to 12 is quite the accomplishment! I can't wait to see the progress you're able to make on them this year :)
Hahaha, yes, I remember that hippo. Too bad it never got made I would have loved to seen how it looked finished. I do not have a lot of WIPs mostly because of your Bingo card. I spend a lot of time setting my card up deciding what I need and want to make. Then the fun of crossing off a square keeps me motivated and on track to finish any project I start. The card usually keeps me from being distracted by the "shiny new projects" that are trending too although I always make room on my card for some of those just in case.
I'm glad Bingo helps keep them under control!
Thank you for showing your wips. I can think of 5 wips (one of which was started in 2010!) but I still need to look for the rest and put them all in one place. Could you sew the hippo pieces together into some shape and then granny stitch stripes around them?
I'm going to have to lay them out and see how/if they fit together. Because it was meant to form a 3D shape, they don't puzzle together like standard pieces all in one size. I think I'll try to make the crochet blanket first and see what size ends up. If it's big enough for a person, maybe I'll piece together what I can as a matching blanket for his cat. 2010! I'd love to know what that one is :)
Oh I didn't think about the 3 D shaping. It's the Percy Shawl by Sanne Kalkman. I should try to work on it or frog it.
Hi Aryn, that hippo, i remember having see it before, many years ago. UFOs stress me out, so i usually don't keep more than one or two (blankets or big shawls).
I get stressed having too many too :) Ongoing blankets don't bother me, and I don't really count those because I add to them pretty consistently. I don't think I've ever had no UFOs though....there's always something that ends up getting put aside for a length of time.
Hello! Love your make up and how it matches your outfit perfectly. I think it is so wonderful you always knit socks for Avery's teachers and how appreciative they are. What a great feeling it is when someone really appreciates your time and effort in your knitting! Love your owl blanket, so... cute. I forgot about the hippo, but that was cute too. I have like 5-6 UFO's and I find that when I put them down; I just have lost interest and moved on to something else. I really need to go thru mine too. Have a great weekend!
Thank you Cheryl! I got the sweater for Christmas and have a palette that matches it perfectly :) I enjoy giving socks as gifts since I'm knitting them anyway, but it definitely gives a warm fuzzy feeling when you know they're appreciated. I think I've figured out something for the owl blanket and look forward to sharing that in the next episode!
Great accomplishment to not buy any yarn in a year and just use your stash yarn. I want to try to accomplish that too, but is so....... hard. Happy New Year to you and your family! Congrats on completing your Bingo card and looks like you had a very successful year in making. Thank you for always sharing; it is very inspiring.
Thank you Cheryl! It was actually easier than I thought it would be. I think it helped that I was able to find something in my stash that I was excited to use and that would work for all the projects I decided to make. I could see it being more challenging if I didn't have anything suitable and felt like I was settling. It's so nice to feel more productive! I know once Keira starts school I'll really be able to get back into it, so for now I'm just enjoying my time with her :)
I'll be participating in Bingo again this year. I actually managed to fill my card last year for the first time ever too. Your handspun looks lovely. Can't wait to see what you knit up with it.
I'm so excited to get back into a routine! Emilia has one more day off before she returns to school. I miss having the house to myself sometimes. :) The handspun is gorgeous!
Avery goes back tomorrow! I never get the house to myself anymore, but at least it will be less noisy lol.
Your handspun yarn is SO pretty!! I might try crafty bingo again ... I've only joined once and I didn't do very well ... we'll see.
Give it another try! I don't always complete all my goals, but really it's all in how you define it. If you're crafting and enjoying what you're doing, then you're doing well :)
Congrats on completing your Bingo card! The Crafty Bingo is so much fun. It really helped keep my projects organized and focused. It really stops you from straying too much into the latest trend everyone is doing. Even if you don’t complete your card it does motivate you.
Yes! Even with all the years that I didn't complete my card, I still found it super helpful and motivating.
