Returning to our homestead after 1 year away.
Twelve months have passed since we left our small scale homestead in the Pacific Northwest. The gardens have weeded over and the grass is out of control. Will we be able to bring the property back to life?
Who are we?
We are Slowsteading, exploring what it means to live the good life on our small scale homestead in the Pacific Northwest. Sharing videos from our life focused on chickens, DIY building projects and slow living.

Why exactly don't you like them? I'm genuinely curious. Is it because they did one thing and then moved to another or is it that they seem like financially able to afford doing all this? Is it because they are unable to decide what they want to do or be? What exactly is it?

This is the reality. I know so many people striving to build a homestead but they have it in their minds that it will be easy, enjoyable work. And while it may be at year 1, by year 5 it's tedious. It's much better to be in a homestead community and not feel like you need to do EVERYTHING yourself. It's okay if you just do a few aspects of homesteading that you enjoy and leave the rest.

We have a 'homestead'. 18 acres. We raise a few chickens, a couple beef cattle and some sheep. We took a break from gardening this summer but usually have that. We also have jobs. Don't do more than you can handle. Yes, you can take vacations a couple times a year. It is fairly cheap to get someone to come over once a day to feed and water critters to get by. We have a log home and beautiful spot. Most places we would go in the Eastern US is no better than sitting right here. We have little desire to travel the globe. We go out West once a year for a change of scenery. Can we live off the land? Probably could. We have processed chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, guineas and sheep. We have had our beef processed. Frankly, corn, beans and potatoes are too cheap to bother planting. We focus on growing other things. Don't bother trying to do everything.

Only Meat Loving Carnivores get every aminos and nutrients HUMANS need for brain health, to build muscle etc. Very few people can survive long term without meat, they all end up sick and weak. Homesteading is more suited to older people or those who are happy staying put. You’ve done an amazing job for city slickers and what a great journey.
