Bourgeois Redhead JOMT demo and review
Really cool tonewood combo from Bourgeois. This is a raw demo with no post-production, the only thing happening is the strandard compression that this site automatically applies to some video and audio.

Brand new Martin M36. I can see why people love this guitar. It does everything well at a great price point. As usual there is no post processing to the sound. #martinguitar #acousticguitar #singersongwriter

Amazing small body guitar from Santa Cruz that packs a huge sound. I am so happy that I finally have the chance to own one of these guitars. They are made at just another level than the standard Gibsons and Martins. Recorded directly through an AEA N8 and TLM103 into an SSL2 straight into the Zoom 8QN camera. NO post editing or EQ. #acousticguitar #scgc #acousticmusic #boutiqueguitars

New to me Gibson Nick Lucas Reissue from 2003. Short scale with maple back and sides. Still working on a little bit of intonation issues with this, but loving is so far. Plus before I send this L-00 Original back I thought it was be helpful to get a side by side. I'm using my new ribbon mic from Nohype Audio out of Belgium. Amazing affordable ribbon mics that are hand tuned. This is the LRM-2b....

Picked this up to be my travel guitar. For this trip I flew with it on 4 flights. Strung with D'addario Flat Top 13's. Also using a portable Sennheiser USB mic directly into my Macbook with no processing. Very happy with this little guitar. It plays easy, sounds good and travels well. I get the hype now. #acousticguitar #travelguitar #taylorguitars

Super cool and clean Kalamazoo Hawaiin model from the 1930's. Plays extremely well and I hope the new owner is going to love it. It's strung with La Bella Silk and Steel mediums and tuned down 1/2 step. Recorded with an sE VR2 and AEA N8 ribbon mics into an SSL2 directly into the computer with no post processing or EQ.

This is a reissue from Fox Guitars. Amazing little 00 guitar with flame maple back and sides and a solid Adirondack top. This would be a perfect beginner's guitar or really for anyone that wants to play a smaller guitar. I'm actually thinking of keeping it for my living room guitar or something to take and sit on the neighbor's porch with. Either way, its a cool little guitar that I think sound...

Amazing sounding new martin 00-28. Shortly after I got it, I installed the LR Baggs Anthem and did a full set up so that the action is low for fingerstyle and I just prefer nice low action. I am still not completely sure if this will be a long term guitar for me, but I knew right away that this guitar was meant to be played live. It's comfortable and plays amazing. I go over the story in the video. Basically waited 18 months for my dream guitar and Gibson didn't pay attention to the spec list and they sent me something in between what I asked for and what they decided to make. Recorded with a TLM103, sE VR2, SSL2 and the Zoom 8Qn4k.

Here is a guitar that I searched a while to find. Amazing short scale dreadnought with rosewood back and sides with a spruce top. Set up is a little simpler with a TLM103 going through an SSL2 directly into the Zoom Q8N4k video. Simple video editing done in youtube and no adjusting the audio.
J45 vs Hummingbird? Newer addition

So obviously its not a J45 but the Southern Jumbo is just a dressed up version with more binding and inlays. Now this isn't on the same historic line as the Hummingbird I'm playing is, but it's the best sounding from the original line I've played, plus its had some play time to open up a bit so I figured that leveled the playing field. I just bought a used L-03 today with a LR Baggs SL from Reverb for 1500 including shipping. Can’t wait to get it. Love what I am hearing here.
Tried them all...chose a custom shop deluxe songwriter
Both nice but I would keep the guild
grossartig Greetings from the sunny climes of Basle, Switzerland
Both superb guitars but side by side the gibson sounds muddy and lacking dynamic in comparison 👍
1994 00-05 here. Small bodied but not a parlor guitar. Somewhat rare. Not many made.
warm and tame and beautiful is what i am hearing. what a gorgeous guitar. man, you're really beginning to dig deep into boutique territory with you guitars 'n things!
Thanks man! You are hearing correctly and this is so responsive I have to be careful with my playing. Such a great guitar that I never would have thought about a couple of years ago. Thanks for watching!
@@acousticmusicnthings i just received my first "boutique" build on friday. it's a very customized Iris OG, and i am definitely falling for this thing .. .
Great review. I always look forward to a Unicorn. felt the tonewoods were too "woody" but not in a good way. My ears felt a lot of restraint and not much chime at all. Good if you played Black Sabbath and Neil Young in double drop D or DADGAD tuning. It looks very nice but it sounds like a what I would expect a unicorn of a guitar in Redwood over Walnut. I do have a Larrivee OM-3 which is Moon over Bhilwara and that Bhilwara is more of a mahogany adjacent type of EIR, it is discontinued now. Not sure if it was discontinued because of its Unicorn status or they just ran out of the woodpile. I love it though.
Cool Uk here
Hi, sounds lovely. May I ask how much you had to pay for the whole process? Thanks!
@@danyjr this was quoted at a little over 7K. However, obviously they did not get it correct so it was returned to them. And currently, I believe they have shut down their made to measure acoustic offering at the moment.
@@acousticmusicnthings Wow, that is pretty expensive considering the lack of attention to details. The guitar sounds excellent right out of the box but such a shame they didn't get it correct. Gibson's QC has been quite poor for as long as remember especially considering the prices they charge the customer. My experience with big companies (guitar related or otherwise) has been usually like this, you're just a small number in their accounting database. A smaller workshop or a one-man luthier usually develops a personal connection with the end user.
Flat top strings? Which side is flat and how do you orientate it 360 degree's it would take a years to restring a guitar
@@Mytwocentsisallicanafford D’addario EFT17
A versatile Martin to be played over and over! Congratulations!
Rosewood back and sides not maple! Usually Taylor's come with Elixir. And it's out of tune.
It’s great that you chose multiple genres for your demos, they are the most pleasant on guitar review CZcams
Thank you! It is difficult to figure out a guitars sound just by one example of a genre that you don’t even play! So I try to play many styles.
Great review, all your reviews are great Dave. This is a unicorn that you do not see much or less a thorough review. Great playing too. I like your choice of music and not some Billy Strings fast bluegrass. Thanks !!!
@@kevinbishop7512 hey thanks man! I appreciate that a lot.
I have a question, what model of sj200 is that? Why does your say standard on the headstock? I’m looking for new ones and they don’t have it written
@@mikewilkins2030 it is the standard. Sometimes they put that extra truss rod cover in the case when you order a new one. Otherwise it’s an add-on that you can get.
@@acousticmusicnthings thanks
Sj 200 in this vid all day! Tone so warm and nice!
¡¡¡Obras de arte poderosas!!, capaces de llenar cualquier vacío existencial con su gran sonido, ¡un sonido para despertar!!.
I gave you a like once you stopped talking and played the guitar. Sounds great. You are very good at playing.
I just bought this guitar at a guitar shop in Santa Cruz, CA. I played many high end guitars, and I'm with you; it felt the most comfortable and being a finger picker, it was perfect for me. Thanks for the video.
That’s awesome. I was over there on business yesterday and stopped into Sylvan Music. Was really impressed by an ebony backed Lowden they had. Congrats on the guitar!
Shame I live in Melbourne Australia, would love to get my hands on one of these. ❤️🎶
@@jimjohnson1655 send me an email to acousticmusicnthings@gmail.com. Might know a couple you could get your hands on lol
The shinny one sounds definitely better.
Sounds expensive
This is the 800th yt video (along with my own experience) I'm a hog guy through and through. Rw in all guitars sounds constrained to me. Not bad by any means, just doesn't fill in the nuanced tone gaps mahogany does. To my ears at least. Cheers.
Love your collection of guitars! and thanks for the review - love the sound of this Rosewood J45 deluxe!
@@IvanFazekas thanks man. It was a great guitar for sure!
Question: the flat strings you put on - are those also 13-56 gauge like the original strings? I own the same guitar (really enjoying it) and was thinking about swapping strings (and maybe even going lighter gauge).
They are the D'Addario Flat Top 13-56. I don't think this guitar would do well with lighter strings. The scale length is so short they might just flop around.
I often use D'Addario Flat Tops as well. Although, on some acoustic guitars, the D'Addario Half-Rounds actually sound better. Sometimes we just have to think 'outside the box' so to speak and let our ears dictate which strings suit any particular guitar best.
Sounds great! 👍
I commissioned Atkin to build an acoustic baritone guitar, which was excellent. They are based near the the historic city of Canterbury, in Kent, UK. I would highly recommend anyone to buy a guitar from Atkin if they have the necessary funds to do so.
Atkin guitars are amazing. I’ve had two and would get another for sure.
Nice demo. I own this and its big brother, the e10ss/v, which is basically the same guitar but as a slope-shouldered dreadnaught, so a bigger sound and better strummer, and both are just wonderful instruments. I often think that, if I ever really stripped down, I'd own those two and my old Yamaha laminate to take to campfires and other places where I wouldn't want to worry about my guitar. The sound is beautiful (especially if you love mahogany back and side guitars, which I do), and it plays like a dream.
Thanks. I’ve said I’d always like one of these again.
Playability question: is this guitar more on the low action slinky side, or is it one of those harder to play acoustics?
Really depends on how you set it up but in general shorter scale guitars are going to be easier to play due to lower string tension. Action is how you set it up but this one was set up pretty good out of the box. Honestly after all the guitars I’ve had I still have nothing but good things to say about this model and if the opportunity to own one again pops up, I’d take it.
@@acousticmusicnthings thanks! I am looking for an acoustic, but don't know much about them, as I play electrics. Maybe that is the reason why I am looking mostly for small bodies as well
The strings really work in softening the tone, sounding great!
What did the action measure out of the box? Just ordered mine.
It was right about 5/64 in the low E. Not bad, but I’ve heard it can be hit or miss.
I thought it was rosewood back?
It is. I mentioned below that I had just reviewed a maple backed guitar the day before
OK! I should stop watching CZcams videos about guitars. I just ordered an L-11 reissue from Sweetwater. Anticipation is makin me wait!
Wow! Great playing! Appreciate all the great tunes! How's the bass end? Is this as tinny as most Taylors? Thanks again , really enjoyed!
Didn’t sound tiny to me. Surprised at how full it sounded compared to some I tried. What did you think of the sound from the video? There was no EQ or any audio editing, just raw guitar tone.
I have same guitar and year too. Great tone from then. A keeper.
What strings / gauge
That would have been DR sunbeams 12-54
At one point I had a Gibson dreadnaught with a plasic bridge. I got my friendly luthier to make a rosewood bridge to replace it, which transformed the tone from being absolute cr*p to excellent. Only guitar collectors would prefer a hollow plastic bridge, no musician worthy of the name would be able to tolerate it..!
Fun vid. Would be neat to hear the Atkin vs my Gibson LG-2 Banner since they're both aged.
I totally agree with you, I have a 2001 Nick Lucas custom elite maple back and sides Ebony bridge and fretboard 1 3/4" at the nut .
I have a 2003 Blues king with an even shallower body than the L-00 (I think ?) at 4 3/16 at the widest point (back peg) and 3 7/16 where the neck joins the body. It also has a long scale. Would you measure your L-00 and post the two measurements for me?. I keep mine tuned down a full step & it roars....good vid....Thanks !
Yeah I can hear the intonation issues you will work it out...Nice guitar congrats...
oooooh, i am quite envious! i really want to check these out .. . visually, this is a stunner!
They’re hit and miss on being able to find one. I think there’s still one in Reverb at the moment.
@@acousticmusicnthings i'm very excited to see what comes of your santa cruz H model. i kick myself for not pulling the trigger on a redwood/EIR H-14 on reverb (lovies music) last year!
I was in my local shop looking at martins and Taylor’s. Walked out with an LV-09. Love it to this day
Man that sounds good! Think I'm finally going to pick up a new GS Mini. Plus, its the anniversary edition haha.
I’ve just bought one of these to throw in the car for when I’m on the move. Great tone and nice looking but out of the box was virtually unplayable due to high action. Once sorted should be fine.
That’s too bad. Where did you get it from? Hopefully it’s a quick fix for you, and you can start to enjoy it.
Purchased from Andertons music UK but it was factory sealed. Yes will be easily sorted with a good set up.
excellent demo showing the versatility of that MiniGS
Thank you!
Isn't it a mahogany back and sides? The W32j was the jacaranda version if I'm not mistaken. I have the W30 and W32 (mahogany) and they are spectacular, as well as their maple dreadnoughts
You are correct. This was a strange one that ended up with the jacaranda but not labeled with the J.
Maple? It looks like Rosewood???
If I said maple I was incorrect. This is rosewood laminate. I just reviewed a laminate maple guitar a couple days prior to this lol
