4:24 the slot for an M.2 is also a slot for a wifi card! Can your i3 be upgraded to an i5? Thank you as a kind of hobby I look for electronics in dumpsters and curbside stuff! Recently found what I believe is a 3020 (or a 3040). But its missing the CPU, RAM, heatsink, HDD and proper cover! But plugging it in, it seems to want to work! It had an i5. Well the service tag info says its a 3020M. Think it can be upgraded to an i7, and has 2 RAM slots!

Anyone that considers trying to stick in DDR5 Ram modules into an IdeaCentre 3, (IC3) all the various versions of it of the world had best be very careful. Even though the processor specs may say that they are DDR5 compatible and even the Motherboard specs say that DDR5 Ram is compatible, it all depends how Lenovo have set the BIOS up. What they want. Lenovo themselves offer after sale UDIMM 288-pin - 4800 MHz / PC4-38400 DDR5 Ram modules and say they are for "Select PC's". Top secret which ones of cause. Not very helpful there Lenovo. Though I have found out elsewhere they are for these Lenovo PC's: ThinkCentre M80s Gen 3; M80t Gen 3; M90s Gen 3; M90t Gen 3; ThinkCentre neo 70. Looks like Lenovo originally sold those particular PC's of theirs (Above) with DDR5 Ram as standard, straight out of the box. Now it is POSSIBLE that DDR5 ram will work in some IC3's, someone out there may have stuck some DDR5's in and found out that they do work, but if so they don't seem to be letting anyone know. Contacting Lenovo would have someone that end look up the specs for the model quoted that just say that in the latter versions of IdeaCentre 3's that they are DDR4's. (IC3's been around for ages, even seen some stated as being fitted with DDR3's). Getting hold of a Lenovo tech person who actually has themselves tested out if DDR5 ram works would be a difficult thing to achieve. The IdeaCentre 3's with 12th Gen Intel processors have sold well around the world and continue to. Maybe tens of thousands sold. You would think that someone out of that lot or one of these online tech outfits, 'Tom's Hardware' and such like would have tried out whether DDR5 ram works or not. Obviously to give it a better chance of success NOT have the existing DDR4 module left in with 1x DDR5 module stuck in to its side. We hear that some motherboards can actually do that, well, test that out as well at the same time, take note swanky online tech outfits who on the whole give out the impression they know almost everything. Why you should tune in to their website more than any other. YET they do not know these things. And when it could be of benefit to 10,000+ particular model range of computers, ie IC3 users do not even consider spending 20 mins on finding out. They are never as clever as they like to make out they are. -------------------------------------- I will not risk it on mine, a IdeaCentre 3 07iab7 that came with just 4gb of DDR4 ram. 4gb is just not enough with Windows 11, I found out the fitted integrated Intel graphics UHD 710 has a dedicated video memory of 128mb and shared system ram up to 2033mb. (Others in that range have UHD 730's and even UHD 770's). So no way can its full video memory capacity of 2033mb be achieved with just 4gb fitted. From being booted up just sitting there using no extra resources other than about 70mb for an opened Task Manager to actually be able to monitor the ram usage, the lowest I have seen is about 2950mb. So with even a browser launched watching CZcams or a PC video game launched, the full ability of the integrated graphics can not be used. 8gb is minimum really, as we see in the above video another 4gb of DDR4 ram was added. A bit of false economy though as new 4gb and 8gb are of near similar price. An 8gb for a few rupees more or similar currency slotted where the existing 4gb is would have been better, with the 4gb moved over, however 'unbalanced' it is. It would be more beneficial having 8gb in duel mode and another 4gb in single mode. 12gb in total for an extra 8gb of ram at US$20, seen them for that. Yes 4gb ram can be picked up used for US$6. Paying US$20 to give a better user experience is worth considering. I would say better userbenchmark (online benchmarking outfit), test results would be obtained. AND >>then<< after getting initially a 8gb DDR4 ram stick, IF a total of 16gb was desired to get 16gb in duel mode, then get another 8gb of ram to this time replace the existing 4gb. It only originally had just one 4gb of ram to start with. Noticing that a 4gb DDR4 ram was being put in. Before making any computer component purchases, best to consider it thoroughly, work it all out, weigh it all up. Consider later on as well. Now he has got likely 2x 4gb sticks, so is it going to forevermore stay at that?. Two 8gb DDR4 sticks should be affordable at as low as US$36, that I have seen, even two new 16gb DDR4 sticks can be had for as low as (for worldwide reference) US$60. IF they care to wait up to 14 long days for poxy Crucial to get their act together and actually deliver them. In Europe that is, in the actual USA where this US based outfit are, they would not DARE attempt that with US customers. Was cheaper even than Amazon though!. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hard drives may well have large capacities and be cheaper than SSD's but these days it is best to get a SSD system. Windows 11 runs a lot quicker on SSD's and should Windows 12 come out in 18months to 2 years time as expected, the likelihood is that SSD's are mandatory. Talk is that existing PC's that have the requirements to run Win 11 will need SSD's to run Win 12. So in that instance Win 11 users with HDD's even if meeting other requirements are not likely to get a Win 12 upgrade. If there is a Windows 12 release. With Microsoft we never know what they are up to, even Microsoft rarely does themselves, telling us there will never be a Windows 10 upgrade to another version. Microsoft were on the edge of SSD's being a requirement of Win 11. Still are for future releases of Win 11 features. (Likely to still get the security upgrades!). Though the service life of Win 11 is for another 5 years anyway, until at least 2028. By which time we'd be possibly on Windows 14, (If Win unlucky13 was missed out!) and also up to Intel Generation 15, 16, 17 or whatever. What a system that would be. I find it is best not to be 'stingy' in the purchase of computers & its add on components/upgrades and on the other hand not be 'extravagant' either. Something we learn with experience, getting the right balance It can be best to keep in mind with purchase of 'upgrades', whether at a latter date that component, in this case the ram or graphics card or whatever be used in anther computer later on. If DDR5 ram could be successfully fitted in say a IdeaCentre 3 07iab7, and we we TOLD for sure that it could, later purchased desktops may have a minimum DDR5 ram requirement. Very few these days will take DDR3's and later on DDR4's will be phased out. The only drawback is the DDR5 4800mhz that possibly could fit ok in a IdeaCentre 3 would have to be at max DDR5 at 4800mhz. Which is the very LOWEST of DDR5 Udimms available. Picking up a future PC desktop utilising DDR5 ram could be by then as high as or even higher than as I have just found out the current highest of 7200MHz. And sticking a DDR5 at 4800mhz alongside a 7200Mhz sick would very likely bring them both down to 4800Mhz. SO it all needs thoroughly contemplating appertaining to the computer world we are living in. VFM is always to be considered. I very recently got mine as, (don't let my Lenovo desktop hear this!) as a stop gap between getting a Win 12 with even newer Intel Gen desktop processor. Having loads of laptops & things already, as many of us have through the years but was tempted by a Win 11 IdeaCentre 3 07iab7 brand new for the equivalent of US$193. (Some good modern specs, well impressed Lenovo, for the price). I won't say what processor, even mine is better than a Intel i7 3rd Gen Desktop have got in the majority of benchmarks. At about 5 times less of a price than what the i7 processor cost. Yes my IC3 needs a Ram upgrade and this above video is very helpful, thanks for making it. (Continued below in reply, due to 8000 character limit per post)

Please do see the last bit of this continued part. >>>>>The guy is hardly going to be an EXPERT on all things 'IdeaCentre 3's' (IC3), so there is no particular point in asking him questions about a particular IC3 model, he has only got the one he has and decided to do a helpful video on fitting more ram and or come to that even with this lengthy amount of a message I have taken the time & effort to compose also ask me things either. (Best we don't lose the ability to create written articles ourselves, that people either want to read or not), explaining things a bit more. They at least have a choice. What we can come up with, if the effort is put in, is likely to be of more help to folk than a brief message. I blame twitter for this. Stunting folks creative ability to write much more than one line of anything and in turn if they themselves do only bother writing a line it could be about all they ever want to read. There is PLENTY of empty white space to write in. Anyway, if anyone does slip a DDR5 ram in to a IC3 of any particular model, that to me would be interesting to find out. I don't particularly advise it. Someone taking the risk, and it would be a risk, fiddling about doing anything to a computer other than turning it on/off has its risks of damage. Likely won't damage it, we don't for sure know for sure. When it comes to even US$300 of computers, let alone more expensive ones be careful Maybe if someone have a DDR5 desktop as well. Or is one of these PC testers, doing reviews, it can be found out. Better than buying a DDR5 stick on the off chance it may work. If anyone does find out, these CZcams videos talking about IdeaCentre 3's will be a good place to give out that information. This is what we want, more definite info about these matters not what a clever clogs off hand thinks it is, based on no actual fact and proof. IF DDR5 Ram does actually physically works in IC3's, any version Let us all know and PROOVE it. What is no good is, "Oh I don't think it will" comment based on what?. It does not matter if Lenovo do themselves say that up to 3200Mhz of DDR4 ram will fit and work, they do not say that 4800Mhz of DDR5 ram will not. They don't particularly say it will. But they have not the sense to officially say that it does NOT. And those employees of theirs that do not personally know for sure by way of themselves having tested it, would if bothered to be contacted, as a matter of policy stick to the written down line of the DDR4 3200Mhz specs. They would not stick their neck out. And unless someone has physically tried it themselves at Lenovo or elsewhere they do not know. They may surmise that a DDR5 ram would not work because of whatever particularly convinces them that it does not work. Yes we know Lenovo seem to down tune in the BIOS their pc's abilities. There being in the top end DDR4 ram, ie Crucial DDR4 pro's ram a Intel XMP 2.0 support ability. Now Lenovo seem to see the Intel XMP 2.0 ability built in to many of Intel's motherboards. One of which is likely to be in a IC3, Lenovo see it as 'overclocking' and from what I have gathered disable that in the BIOS. People would have to check for themselves in their particular BIOS to see if that XMP 2.0 was there and can be engaged. Though fiddling about in the BIOS especially for the inexperienced is a careful consideration. Of cause paying the odd bit more for some DDR4 ram with Intel XMP 2.0 that the usual ram modules do not have, could be a good idea. Future proofing yourself if later on another computer was obtained that could utilise the Intel XMP 2.0 Ram, especially if ones present computer, (and I don't like saying this!), completely packs up!!. Blimey, dreadful. A calamity. Having a knackered up computer that obviously you can't use, BUT if components >>can<< be scavenged from it, you are not at a total loss. See, considering these matters in advance, proactive not reactive. The lesser creatures being on the whole more reactive. Of cause even after extensive searching on the web no one even selling these Intel XMP Ram modules HAS GOT THE SENCE to let us know 'for sure' that it will work in a motherboard that is not Intel XMP configured. We can assume what we like. That it would work but no one bothers to COMMUNICATE with others, users of these products either I'll add, about these matters. Even when that info is known by them, in their heads and that for some reason that is where it stays. They must be trying to hatch out this info of theirs. Like a Hen on an egg. They have a sort of a 'clam' mentality, wanting to keep hold of this nugget of info in their head and turn it into some sort of pearl. That of cause they also keep that to themselves. Too many people are keeping to themselves these things that they find out where it would be of great benefit to many many others. Don't assume people, that the info that you find out and things that you know is commonly known by others. It can on occasions be not known. Known just to a few, or no one else. More info out there is better than less or none at all. It can only be found out and read if people spend the time and effort to find out for themselves and divulge these matters. If it was known for absolutely sure that IdeaCentre 3's various models of them, (there are many) can indeed for definite take DDR5 ram then that would be something folks can take in to consideration should they care to upgrade the Ram. Thousands of IC3 users could. The various online memory suppliers Crucial, Mr Memory etc all don't list DDR5's for IC3's but they are likely taking what Lenovo say. Sitting on the commercial fence. And have not tried it out for themselves not purchased one and found out themselves. Levono themselves are mostly to blame. All they have to do had >>they<< the sense is to state clearly in print when advertising their IC3's that DDR5 ram WILL NOT WORK!!. Easy isn't it. Knowing full well that it is known that Intel say that their 12th Gen processors and their subsequent Intel motherboards are 'able' to take DDR5 ram and that out of the thousands of IC3's sold some folk will attempt it. Wasting money. Giving out this information up front, rather than us contacting them, some marketing call centre employee of theirs, who knows nothing other than what they see in print. Ok then. Nice enough computer so far Lenovo. You tried to rip me off with the one year guarantee, logging it from when the retailer acquired it from you, over 4 months ago. Needing me to supply proof of purchase, and downloading that to reinstate a full one year guarantee with them. WATCH OUT for that one people. If purchased brand new, check out the official Lenovo website, register, and download manuals and stuff and check out the service/guarantee status. Your retailer may guarantee it, but if they have to send it on to Lenovo themselves and Lenovo say it is out of warranty, you could be stuffed. Best not to risk it. -------------------------------- Just noticed, starting from about 4mins 15 secs he took the 4gb DDR4 ram out then stuck a supposedly new 4gb DDR4 ram in the same slot. SO there was no upgrade was there. 4gb ram took out and we are supposed to believe some other 4gb put back in. Leaving the other slot empty. So looks like there was no ram upgrade. The same ram took out, and put off camara. Then put back in. All the numbers of the same 4gb ram module if y'all have a look they match up. 8SSM30N7663G1YL17JOP8 FRU PN 5M30V06801. With I add the stickers one at an angle on top of the other sticker, covering up exactly the same writing underneath. Exactly at the same angle in both. Or rather the 'same' one!!. Looks like it was the same ram stick. Without doubt. If there was another 4gb ram upgrade it would go in the other slot. Put in later was it?. (Used 4gb ram can be had for US$6, brought a new SSD, or used, for a US$200+ computer, when it was new, but no actual ram upgrade, WHY?, why just run 4gb?, totally false economy). All that lesser performance currently yet there is more that 'could' be obtained for less than US$10 at most, or about US$18 new. People, do upgrade your ram, even putting in an extra 4gb in 'real life', will make quite a bit of difference, the integrated video graphics can do far more, more browser tab pages and all sorts. At least another 8gb stick, you'll all enjoy the thing more then. It was billed as a Ram upgrade & Ram update. Not billed as 'how to update ram'. "Update the ram" was said in first 20 secs of video. Weren't trying to fool us is some way was he?. Thanks for the effort of making the video though, we have learnt many things, on how to do these upgrades, where things are inside the casing, on that particular model. Strange it was said to have laptop ram. Maybe some do. Anyway best wishes to the video maker and to all Lenovo owners. Good luck to y'all.

Just Lenovo's misleading marketing. It's really a USFF PC, like Dell or HP ones. So called thin client. The dishonesty is branding thin client as a fully-fledged PC.

You should create another video showing the installation of Synology Nas on this mini pc. Without the music of course.
