I understand white wanting to separate black queen/pillbug but the placement choice of blacks pillbug by white felt like a mistake to me when i saw it on the livestream (gate advantage vs proximity pillbug disadvantage). Maybe this one would be worth a commentary...

How did color assignments work for the tournament? I assumed it was alternating but csigeee was white for game 2 also.

I prefer 48 bA3 wS1/ to trap the white ant in a kill spot and release the other black ant. The white beetle on top of the pillbug as well as the grasshopper blocking the white queen's flight square make this possible (not having the grasshopper the turn before made this a bad move).

What an entertaining slugfest! And a win as black puts him in good shape for the rest of the series :D

Stepanzo always seems to me like he's one move away from disaster, and then he pulls off some elegant move I didn't see and I realize he knew what he was doing all along. So much fun to watch!

That reference would be great to entice new players to give it a try. I've met quite a few folks who see the game being played and are intrigued, but a bit intimidated. So I think I'll create a similar handout to bring to my Hive club meetings at the game stores. I bet they'll help turn the curious into triers.

man, Hive its just a game, enjoy it, dont overthink it. Dont need any theory or method, just live the moment and accept its good either to win or lose, the experience is everything 😊 Dont be pretentious like the chess players

csigee has one of the most unique gameplays I've ever seen. The way he usually uses pillbugs as an attacking piece (either his own or his opponent's) is really something different other good players do it too, but he usually does it in an interesting different manner, and the way he often groups many pieces together to allow mobility is also different.

I think I only came across a beetle gate once ever, as uncommon as it is I still feel like its an important thing to understand, if utilized it can greatly increase one's odds of winning.

I've taken these axioms to heart when I first came across this video months back, honestly without you I wouldn't be able to win Hive.
