The arrival of a legend. In Sep 1989 Michael Ferguson was planning the Mitchell brothers once he became producer. I think Steve and Ross were chose in perhaps Oct or Nov 1989, and they got the contracts and started filming in late 1989 due to the advance schedule, so technically arrived in the 1980s even if their first on screen appearance was February 1990.
Thank God, man I tried to find out when the Steve & Ross started filming but I couldn't for a while. But one question, did Steve & Ross join the set of EastEnders in November 1989 or October or December, since Nej Adamson (who played Ali Osman) left in October, so they joined after Nej left or before?
@@ClassicEnders1985 I think Nej last appeared on screen as Ali in October 1989, so due to the advanced schedule he must have finished filming in about late August 1989. I think Steve and Ross joined shortly after Nej left. Shame that the Mitchell brothers never met Ali Osman. But it was good to see Phil Mitchell and Rod Norman in the same scenes, as Rod was a major 1980s character who left onscreen in late Feb 1990, a few episodes after Phil and Grant arrived.

Love Dot & Ethel chatting & walking past the car at the beginning. EastEnders used to be a perfect mix of grittiness e.g. Lou Beale, Dirty Den and old school humour as in Ethel & Willie. I loved watching the early shows. Wouldn't think of switching it on now.

I loved how Phil never really spoke to Den how he would speak to Dennis & Steve or even Ian, most of the time when Den spoke Phil, Phil kept stum and realised that was Den Watts the former king of the square!

Nick always seemed capable of controlling his temper around Den. Den didn't even touch him that hard, and Nick went flying and was screaming like he'd been stabbed or shot. All Den did was grab his hair and slightly shove him. 😂😂😂

Difference between Den and The Mitchell brothers. Den was more smarter, he knew how to manipulate people, and get inside their heads and knew their weak spots. Phil and Grant just use their fists, and go in all guns blazing, without fully thinking. So in this feud, Den won the war(he was more smarter), and Phil won the fight(he was more aggressive). Similar to Phil and Archie as well.
