We are heading southbound on Hurontario Street and having a look where construction stands for this 18km line from Brampton Steeles Ave and Mississauga Port Credit GO Station. It is known as Hurontario LRT Line 10 as well the Hazel McCallum Line with Brampton being Hurontario/Main Line 10
The road is not widen for the LRT as they are only building the new southbound lane and have yet to start on the northbound lane. Lots of poles to be remove for both directions including the area that was partly built. Guideway being built across Mineola Intersection.
The old Inglewood intersection and bridge removed and moved to the new location that just open last month.
The LRT will move from the centre to the right side that will connect to the guideway already in place and will enter the Port Credit Station under the new rail underpass.
The construction of the line was started in the fall of 2020 and to enter service in September 2024 as a P3 contract that was pushed back to the end of 2020 at the start of construction. It is unknown when this line will see service now as it is so late, but late 2026 is the most likely date now based on what I have seen first hand for the corridor.
Now that the Province has added the extension for Mississauga City Core Loop to the plan, it will have no effect at this time for opening the line in 2026. With the loop back in the picture, the line will be split into 2 lines forcing riders to travel an extra 15 minute as well transferring tine that it defeat the idea of getting people out of the car to get to the Cooksville GO station and the Dundas BRT Line.
The extension to Brampton GO Station that will add another km to the line that will not effect the opening of the line if the plan Steeles south station is not relocated to the north side off Steeles before construction starts on it in 2025. The rest of the extension is yet to be determined if it will be built on the surface in Brampton Downtown or to be tunnel.
At this time, Brampton plan on tearing the heritage section of the downtown down as well remove the underground creek tunnel. Brampton want to reduced the 4 lane road to 2 lanes with wider sidewalk and cycling lane. To built the tunnel for the LRT will cost an extra $2 Billion dollars and could be 2030 plus before service can start and close to 3+ years after the surface line is in service.
The Province has approved the 2 extension, but has yet to release funds and call for amendments made to the current EA's, let along call for bidding on them.
