A Glacial Loss (Full Album)

It was last December when I decided I wanted to make an album in a location where I could actually play my drums and use amplifiers. I got a distant week taken off of work then began planning and practicing until said time arrived. June finally came around, I packed up a stupid amount of music and recording gear and got taken out to a garage (thanks Mom) where I set it all up. For those who nee...

the recording process for the album has finally begun, and yet this won't be on it. this little thing I decided to run my bass through a delay pedal with max repeat and high feedback, then played drums to it. I got the genius idea to record it with my phone. it's rough, but it was fun.

It is beyond me this turned out the way it did considering the sheer amount of videos available on CZcams explaining how to do this properly (even with a single microphone). For example: czcams.com/video/sOFWuVc8OGk/video.html&ab_channel=CreativeSoundLab
@@poxcr yeah, the first set up and test run didn't turn out so great. I'm glad I atleast figured a few things out before I recorded the album.
love it
Kinda funny that it even has a handle for something the size of grilled cheese sandwich
true lol. I never even use the handles.
@@projectnoel but they do look cool!!!
So which one you like more? Which sounds better?
@@olacemezowa it might be my own personal bias, but despite the cream one sounding a bit warmer, I'd probably still use the aqua one just because I've used it alot more and had it longer. That might change though, we'll see as I use them both more.
waiting for the 2nd part where u'll play the bass
Yeah, I probably should have worded the video title better. I let the bass feedback in this one. That being said I just uploaded an entire video of me playing bass.
Just got mine today. Also new in aqua color. Before buying i was searching for video like this. Well thanks man for the comparison!
These little amps are so fun.
@@projectnoelyeah. I also have a pignose 7 100 amp modded by some unknown Japanese people. It is VERY fun to play. I really love it. Hope someday you enjoy it if you don't have one.
@@user-zo6te7st8n funnily enough, I have one but it came broken. Still trying to get it working. Though I have heard those amps sound good.
Hey, nice work! Your stuff randomly came up on my feed. A couple questions for you, as a fellow musician/creator: What bands are your influences? If you had to compare your music to anyone else's, what bands would you say your music sounds like?
Well as far as my biggest influences, that would probably be System Of A Down and Neutral Milk Hotel. Though funnily enough, my friend always says my music sounds as if Opeth is trying to make music with Beck. On a side note I have been listening to a lot of Sleep and The Taxpayers lately, which might have a little effect on my current playing.
You put a noise cleaner on your sound libraries, and it makes them basically unusable because of hte artifacts. It's better if you keep the noise in,d on't try to clean it.
Not quite sure what an HTE is but. The old pack isn't the best quality pack in general, I recorded the entire thing with a Blue Snowball mic. As far as I can remember the recordings themselves are just the raw recordings cut to the sample pieces. Unless you make this video, which I just recorded with my phone, and the sound quality this it records isn't the best but it wasn't edited at all. That being said, I hope with the drum mics the new pack will sound better.
@@projectnoel "the", not "hte". "The artefacts". I typo'd. Ah, that's a USB mic? Maybe it does noise cleaning automatically. Yes, it's best not to do any editing at all, since that means you retain the highest quality audio, which peoepl can then choose to noise clean or whatever, if they want to.
Do you need a cable for each drum or can you run a few through one cable?
There's bound to be a little bleed between mics either way, but for the important drums you want as clean as possible I'd recommend micing them up. For example, half my current recordings I haven't bothered using microphones on the Tom drums because I rarely use them. (And they can still be heard on the kick and snare mics) That being said if you got the microphones and cables you could still set them up and test how it all sounds to you.
@@projectnoel thanks!
love it, like some mechanical space being is stalking me!
Boys, I think you turned up the channel volume faders not the preamp levels which would have increased your recording levels. The channel faders are for mxing the playing level after recording.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what happened. I'm going to have to do alot of fiddling with the mixer before I start the recordings this week.
@@projectnoel You could also watch one or two of the many tutorials for recording for beginners on YT. Don't make the simple mistakes yourself.
Excellent pedal and just got another one today
I love this pedal. It took years to even find one in the market, such a good pedal.
@@projectnoel I’m glad you snagged one. I took a decade long break from music but I’m back in it again. A lot of what I play is similar to early Old 97s and also some rockabilly. This pedal really comes in handy with for secondary Grit and delay option since I cross a lot of soundscapes and delay timings
This is the style of that one dude ten years ago who had every pedal known to man and demo'd them on the carpet then one day probably because of forum harassment lol he deleted them all
How unfortunate. I was going to ask if you remembered what the channel was. I love watching pedal demos.
I'd say; play along to yourself, and see if something comes out :)
Add some improv and that can be country or blues
There's something to it
I use Behringer stuff ..I've had no issues with it ever ..
Glad to hear it. I can't wait to try it on my drums.
Wow the hiss is horrible. Mic sounds awful. I want one.
Yeah, that's what happens when I use a cheap microphone from Target. I really should remake this video at some point now that I have better microphones.
sounds rad homie!!
You'll need a aeafoam Danelectro!
It would be fitting. :)
excellent
i am aware of the elephants foot . the fact that i never thought to fully take advantage of it in some way like you have done here ., well perhaps that shows you a bit of how much of a failure i truly am . 100 / 100
Now I want an Orange
My favorite part is that this one was just the gain on the amp. I don't think I've been so satisfied of the sound without pedals before.
Your Amp is simply acting as your head..Those Orange cabinets are so sweet..I would continue to run them both......
🦜
I love that 💜
Glad you like it :3
Super it❤
I have only had this a day and I love it already. Just using it to sing and play guitar into my phone ! Sounds great !
It's quite pointless (if not disheartening) to use a brand new chrome cassette tape to record something on a crappy boombox, do yourself a favor and get a decent cassette deck tape recorder where you can finely adjust the record level and select the proper bias equalization that suits type II Chrome cassettes which aren't properly handled by boomboxes like this one where only type I tape bias equalisation is supported (120µS for type I, 70µS for types II, III and IV). You'll get a way more rewarding result. If you're on a budget and/or can't get a proper audio cassette recorder, look for early 2000's VHS Hi-Fi stereo cassette recorder and some non worn out used cassettes. Even a no-name entry level one that you can find for $30 has a 90dB dynamic range (a $2000 Nakamichi Dragon audio cassette recorder has a 60dB dynamic range with unobtainable type IV Metal tapes), just clean the heads on the recording drum with isopropyl alcohol, check out (and replace if necessary) the belts, grease the gears that might be recalcitrant, and voilà, you have something that can give analog professional studio reel-to-reel recorders (Studer, Ampex, Teac...) a run for their money. And also a tape player that can deliver up to eight hours of quality analog audio playback on half-speed mode with a E240 cassette.
Funnily enough, the boom box wasn't even purchased for my music projects, I bought it for my pet bird. I have like a dozen or so cassette recorders, and even with the mixer none of them sounded as good as this cheap CD player does. That being said I have had my eyes on a Tascam or a Fostex 4 or 8 track recorder. Still digitally on my computer are where my main projects are recorded.
@@projectnoel Sorry if my initial comment seemed somewhat rude,, I was just generally writing about magnetic analog recording in a global way, if you're having fun with your boombox then it's great.
@@chucku00 it's all good :)
@@projectnoel Cool. _Bonne année!_
I'm 48 and grew up recording my band's practices on a 4 track recorder. I did it for almost 25 years straight and that experience managed to perfect the art of recording to cassette. I learned a lot of things along the way that I still use recording digitally and often reproduce in my productions. Here's a few worth mentioning: 1. the mistakes are often the most memorable parts of the recording. The unintentional parts and happy accidents add the unique character that people connect with and our favourite music from the past is full of them. 2. balance the volume of the instruments as you record them... it makes it easier to mix and offers a more natural listening experience 3. Commit: make decisions and stick to them. Working with tape forces you to trust your instincts and removes the endless options available when working digitally. I use this mindset when recording into my DAW today.
fun, yea my first device was a tascam that used normal tapes. recorded the whole band with that thing
Nice! I dig it. Once upon a time all we had was cassette. We must have tried every iteration: Tascam, Fostex, Sansui, boom box built-in mics, through the PA, condenser mic straight into the boom box, stereo condenser mic into camcorder (that actually sounded REALLY good), etc... I actually still have a box full of brand new Maxells of that same type you have there, from the early 'nineties. I also have boxes of tapes that probably won't ever be heard properly again, as the long-dead machines they were recorded on did so at varying speeds. I agree - everyone should try this sort of thing. Fun stuff!
By Sansui, you don't by any chance mean the Reverberation unit do you?
@@projectnoel They’re probably talking about either the Sansui WS-X1 or the rackmount MR-6. Both are 6-track cassette multitrack recorders.
@@popfortyfive fair enough. The only thing I've ever seen from that brand personally is the reverb unit which I own. I probably should look into getting a better tape recording system at some point.
@@projectnoel those Sansui reverbs are really cool. With the rainbow indicator on the front?
@@popfortyfive yeah, that's the one. It's from the 70's or something.
As a 66 year old veteran musician, this makes me smile :)
Is that one of the tapes I gave you?
Yes, that Type 2. I've never used this kind of tape before.
Lately I've just been using Christmas tapes to record stuff lol

Sounds awesome. Like 90's 200's albums!!!!!! SUPER SWEET MAN!!!! Look forward to more when you dial it in to your liking !!!!
The Marshall sim is the Mesa Boogie sim with a smaller input capacitor. The rest of the circuit is identical. The Fender sim is the Mesa Boogie with a mid notch at the input, slightly more work. So the simulation is faith based. For $30 it's a great tone changing distorty thing. You are bound to find one or more useful sounds.
I believe this is the successor to Behringer's GDI21 pedal. I owned one of those for a while. It was ok on the less gainy settings, but just too noisy when the gain was increased, and I don't miss it. On the other hand I still have my ADI21 acoustic pre-amp/DI pedal, which works very well with low-output acoustic pickups, so I'm not about to write Behringer off.
It's a copy of a Tech 21SansAmp GT2 Tube Amp Emulator pedal. I have one but couldn't get a decent sound out of it until I learned what it was.
That sounds like a total crap if you’re looking for that total crap sound
Using headphones and recording it with my phone wasn't the best choice, I'll be sure not to do it again. lol
Thanks for the demo, you managed to make it sound horrible
yes, the sound quality my phone is capable of recording doesn't do this pedal any justice. I plan on making a proper review in the future.
It's a real preamp so you have to connect the output to the line in of your amp which bypasses the amp preamp
Someone should've told kurt Cobain lmao
You are correct. I couldn't get a decent sound out of it until I learned that.
Shit demo. I have this pedal and it doesn’t as bad as you’re making it sound
I used my headphones get the audio and used my phone to record the video, I stated that in the description.
Sounds like those headphone amps 🫣
Yeah, I wasn't at home when I recorded this. So I plugged my headphones into the amp so I didn't bother the family when I played. The quality my phone records on top of that didn't help much either. It really doesn't do the pedal justice.
Vaguely reminds me of the Brady Bunch theme
Hot Garbage
$30 isn't bad for quick pick of sounds...sometimes the modeling amps are crap anyways.
