Great video...whats that engine for...is it Friedas ? Or a spare ?
@@fattossa hello mate it’s Freda’s engine bloody crank broke and took me ages getting a replacement .. thanks again my friend 😀😀
Ok hope shes back on the road soon i love seeing vids of her....😊
If you open the engine, you can easily see the differences between a R71 and the M-72. The soviets corrected all the R71's flaws.
@@peterwilliams2152 and that sir is where you are so right many thanks for the comment 😀
Great video, quick question, in the film Raid on Rommel with Richard Burton 1971 about 27 minutes into the film whilst in lorry and halftrack convoy the radio is played loud with a political speech followed by a German Army song, what is the name of the song, many thanks 🌴
Those numbers are suspiciously good for such an old lady...
@@hisheighnessthesupremebeing that’s what I thought at the time … but tested it over different times and still comes up with the same .. thanks again with your comment
Can of...cup of tea :) Nice save, in both respects !
Thank you my friend .. glad you enjoyed
My SE was losing connection out about 600 feet. I immediately started back. It disappeared & lost all connection about 170 feet from home point. Even though RTH was enabled, it never kicked in. It’s lost.
Mate I’m sorry to hear that .. I feel you pain my friend 😢
Oh dear. Thanks but no thanks
Great and honest video!👻
Great vid I'm joining the Dak too 😁
hey......can you do some more vids, im getting withdrawal symptoms lol.
Got loads in the pipeline mate … 😀😀
Oh thats good...i love your vids...cheers
ive got a cj750, its great fun
Hahaha i loved how you discribed your experience. Love the video. Thanks for sharing this, i am planning on buying the DJI MINI 2 SE :)
Thanks for the comment my friend .. go get one and enjoy .. 😀😀
Do you use the distributor eccentric at all when setting the timing or do you solely use the method in your video? Just curious.
I rode/owned a Chinese built R71 for 12 years. The Chang Jiang is/was a Communist block gift from the USSR. She was one of the best vehicles I've ever owned.
Thank you for your comment my friend .. that’s spot on 😀😀
I belive the primary is the coil that is connected to the battery, (voltage supply) the secondary is going to the spark plug .
Soinds sweet ❤Overdrive gearbox was the best upgrade I did to my spitfire
That will be my next project .. but it pulls lovely now and breaths better so going to give it a go and see what happens … strong little engine this one mate
Good improvement.
Thank you sir . It’s a different car now .. starts lovely runs lovely ..
Happy new year mr mad mechanic...hope you make some new vids soon...
Hello my friend got loads of new ones planned for this new year … hope you had a good one my friend 😊
7:32 "...the R71s used in Africa also had a different air filter...." No, they didn´t, because they weren´t used there. You probably mixed it up with the R75. I have to pour some water into that historic wine, I fear. The R71 was never comissioned by the German army, and only around 1500 of them were made (the number of 3500 is for all 3 models of that series, as they used the same set of frame numbers) Their (civil) production halted in 1940. Although meant as a replacement for the R12, the military stuck to those for their great number already in service and easier spare parts management. Since a dedicated army motorcycle was announced ( R75) the R71 was obsolete. All of these types of machines that you can find on photographs were civilian bikes that were commandeered for service, some in their original civilian paint. German motorcycles comissioned by the Wehrmacht were BMW R12 and R35, DKW 350, some types of NSU. Later came some lightweights (DKW RT125) and then in 1942 R75 and Zündapp 750. Also in the course of the war a lot of captured foreign material was added, plus commandeered civilian machines (as would have done all other countries). Today´s obsession with the R71 being a military motorcycle (in my view a British and American tic) has it´s origins in the ubiquitous Russian M72s and Urals, but that´s a story in itself. In my opinion the BMW opposed twin machine of that era is the least desirable machine you´d like to have for war purpose: too heavy, too wide near zero ground clearance, the sv-engine prone to overheating under heavy load, low hp output, high fuel consumption, personnel completely unprotected. The "fantastical" R75 and Zündapp KS750 came too late and were overcomplicated, to use and maintain. Their presence up to date stems from the heavy propaganda around them. It is not by accident that their British counterparts gained fame as dispatch riders but not as combattants. You show a picture (5:05) of Steve McQueen on a modified Triumph motorcycle from the 1962 movie "The great escape". A Britsh 1960s machine with an American actor depicting German war material. What a fitting illustration of make belief. I would dare to claim that 99.9% of the "BMW R71" which you can find anywhere are NOT what their owners would like them to be. The few real survivors are sitting in museums and some private collections WITHOUT a rifle on their fake Russian sidecar. (5:26)
Seen a couple of pictures with r71 in Africa. Used by Luftwaffe
Don't do videos while you're toasted.
My first car was a Signal Red 1200 Cv. I kept it for 18 years
Fantastic mate ... i wanted this to be a rebuild but not a a perfect one , still wanted to show its 60 year old history .. few dents and doors that dont fit etc ... not into the showroom rebuilds .. thanks again
Congratulations on fitting the boot rack the correct way around!
Thanks my Friend .. the amount of comments that people was saying its around the wrong way ...
That bar is supposed to stop luggage flying forward in an emergency stop and slamming you in the back of the head 😑
@@lordleonusa thanks I’ve been telling people that for ages … thanks again my friend 😀😀👍
@@themadmechanic1964 I learned it from a friend who was a road accident investigator policeman. I trust what he told me.
I have a ural M72. Its funny to see they took copying the bmw seriously. Its like 1:1
Thanks for your comment … you can see why when people have a real German 71 there will always be a doubt … a early 3NC wartime M72 can be worth just as much as a real 71
I think I know what number
Do you live in Cornwallis
Yes I do 122 with the old cars etc
Awesome fire rate did you build this yourself or did you buy it
Hello my friend thanks for your comment I did buy it from a firm here in the Uk but it sounds like most others , hit and miss and didn’t really sound right and was too slow So I took it apart and made a bigger gas chamber and it now fires as close to a MG34 .. was even told , everyone thought it was a blank firer and not a gas gun and it is instant no messing with settings just pull the trigger and enjoy Thanks again hope that helps 😀😀
@@themadmechanic1964 yeah I've heard a few in my time and some are not great at all. I've emailed a company in the uk waiting to hear back from them, I might have to pick your brain on the gas chamber at a later date ;) Honestly I would believe it's blank firing if I saw that at a show. awesome work you have done mate!
@@JMCreations97 anytime my friend .. the art is getting the setting right and not touch them .. it’s really loud in real life videos always make them sound tinny 😀😃
@@themadmechanic1964 nice one appreciate it. Hopefully see you at some of the shows next year I'm with falaise gap 😁
So my question is ,if I lose signal with the drone and remote will the return to home feature work. Thank you
Hello my friend thanks for the comment .. in simple terms yes just remember to set the home point before you fly etc .. and the little darling will head back to you with open arms
I just bought a mirror dinghy, I am in gillingham , it has several leaks on the bottom , I have bought a marine fibreglass repair kit and hope it will stop the leaks.
Hello my fellow mirror owner thanks for the comment .. yeah I think that will work but make sure you get down to the bare wood and sand it down well so the kit will bond with the wood fibres 😀
My 1300 Herald has zero compression on one cylinder and low compression on the other cylinders. The engine sounds like a 2 stroke lawnmower. My mechanic days he can send the head off for 10 days to be refurbished and converted to unleaded. Price is going to be £1000. I can't understand why it's so expensive. What's your opinion? Should I just buy a second hand head and see how it performs. It looks straightforward to replace looking at your video.
Hello my friend … hope I can help my advice is … 1, what is wrong with the head ?? 2, when your mechanic said it had lost compression are you sure it’s the head and not the piston .. if it’s a valve that has burnt out I would buy a new valve grind it in which is so easy and fit it .. but I would buy a second hand head that are cheaper than £1000 and fit it yourself .. it’s an easy job Keep in touch if you need any more advice .. and good luck
But then you don’t need to go down the unleaded road … I’ve built loads of cylinder heads and never had a valve burn out ..
Enjoy, looks perfect 👌
Thank you … built it a couple of years ago .. just got it how we like it now … thanks again for your comment 😀
Think we saw you on the A470? You were pulling out from a junction & we passed in our little NuVenture van. ❤
@@ghunt9146 blimey what a small world … thanks for the comment 😀😀😀😀
Thank you for the Upload, Was the USB Cable a cheap copy ?
Thanks for your comment my friend yeah it was a DJI cable but the battery was an old black Mini .. and I think it couldn’t put a charge in it and so as it got hot the drone shut it down before it set fire to it … that battery was put in water for 24 hrs then stuck a axe through it to burn it off before it went in the bin .. might do a vid on how to get rid of old batteries .. thanks again
Thank you for making these videos. You are actually the only guy ive seen on youtube to do a step by step engine assembly on a Triumph.
Thank you my friend for that … I tried to put why the bits do what they do … so glad you liked them still a few more to come Again many thanks
Thank you my friend for that … I tried to put why the bits do what they do … so glad you liked them still a few more to come Again many thanks
Been there, done that, 46 years ago!
Thanks for your comments mate 😀😀
Irritating
About 48 years ago, a Herald 1200 was my first car. The engine was really good, all I ever had to do with it was routine servicing - plugs and points, oil changes. Apart from that, I never had to disturb it. Great car.
Thank you for your comment 😀
Primary windings are the smaller control windings, when one side of the primary opens, the voltage rushes out of the secondary windings which is the larger gauge wire going to the distributor pr spark plug seeking shortest path to ground causing a spark on the tip of the spark plug electrode.
Spot on my friend thanks for your comment I
I would like to have seen you let the water out after a few day's running the engine? what colour was the water? Cheers Bob
Hello Bob it was brown … like a home rad lol … all clear water now
@@themadmechanic1964 thought it would be, good tip for a clean out of the system. Cheers Bob
Two things, Where did you get the alternator kit from and would it work on a 1968 1360 Herald? thanks Bob
Hello Bob thanks for your comment .. I got the kit from James Paddock .. and yes it will work on your 68 1360 I’ve now done away with the control box and she has a fuse box instead .. any advice on fitting it just get in touch .. simple job mate
My first car was a Herald 1200. It was an excellent car.
Thanks mate …
Thanks for the video. On your second test (8:25) you changed the meter setting to test it. You didn’t mention what setting you loved it to. 😅
hello Mate .. sorry i missed that for some reason .. you need to put it on 2000 ohms hope that helps .. many thanks for your comment
@@themadmechanic1964 thank you for the reply! Great videos!
@@carlblake5271 thank you Sir for watching more to follow
This is the most boring long winded crap, died of boredom!
2:20 Power lines at 10 o'clock. Power lines can interfere with the rc signal and when you were just flying a little closer to them.
I had this happen while the drone was almost 3km away. My phone crashed mid-flight, and I could not reconnect to the drone at all. I thought it was gone for good as it was over a hard to access forest and battery time was ticking. I was very sad and stressed. 10 minutes later, it lands itself back in the yard. The little bugger flew itself all of the way back home with 4% battery to spare.
I feel your pain my friend … 🥲
Hello, bravo,you uploaded cool ~
Thanks my friend .. made my arse speak up a bit .. lol
I have that problem. The thing is I wasn’t far. Is it’s becuse when new drones come out. The old model tends to fail.?
Thanks for you comment my friend .. I feel that’s so true
just bought a 13/60 convertible and this is gold to me
Thank you sir .. glad you enjoy
I have a Ural 750 I love the history of military side car bikes. I would love a zundapp or BMW war bike but rightly so they're worth a fortune. Rolling history on wheels.
Will you be filming the actual welding work? Bob
Hello bob … yeah hope too got a few bits to do in the boot so will put them on as soon as .. thanks again my friend
Btw, have you thought about getting some nice alloy rims when the car's finished? Imo, those old white steel rims don't suit the car very well. Also wondering, has yours got disc brakes on the front wheels, or can they be fitted?
Hello mate Yeah got discs at the front … was looking at some alloys .. but not sure … one day one day … got to put sone more vids on been so busy lately
@@themadmechanic1964 Yeah, I know, there's so much to do, you just have to take it one day at a time. What I love about Heralds is the massive access you get when you put the bonet up. You could probably replace the brake pads in about 10 minutes!
